Tbh I would most def get rid of the ugly wallpaper, but the wood would be left untouched. The kitchen most def needs to be revamped with new cabinets and counter tops, ones that would preferably match the woodwork of the rest of the house. You'd also have to take into consideration potential led pipes and asbestos.
@raymondhutchinson7156
@raymondhutchinson7156 3 жыл бұрын
@@yozora55555 Yeh , I don't think that wall paper matches the period. Most arts and crafts wallpapers had geometric floral designs or scenes of nature. The overall period of arts and crafts was a reaction against the industrialization of the time. If the kitchen is redone, it should take into consideration the period and try to match it while still being serviceable to modern needs. I can imagine new wood cabinets with a medium stain to match the homes paneling .Mabey a subway tile backsplash that is either a green color to match the front fireplace ,any earthy color ,or white.
@raymondhutchinson7156
@raymondhutchinson7156 3 жыл бұрын
I can understand a condition where there is not much left of an original bathroom, but why do people modernize historic bathrooms. At least try and match the style and character of the home, maybe even look at architectural salvage shops for period fixtures (plumbing, electrical, tile).
@raymondhutchinson7156
@raymondhutchinson7156 3 жыл бұрын
In a renovation, they still produce some of that floor tile designs. Some classic style tiles are even cheaper than those in fashion . There are also plenty of restoration oriented companies that will reproduce historic features for homes .

What a wonderfully preserved example of Prairie Style design. There should be a preservation easement on both the interior and exterior of this house so no future owner can destroy the historic features. The original bathrooms are just so rare nowadays, I hope someone in preservation is photographing and documenting the unglazed porcelain floor tile mosaic designs, the fixtures, and the bathroom “jewelry”, those original towel bars, cup holders and sconces. Maybe she can write a book on historic architecture or start a website in collaboration with a college architecture student or a historical society or the like photographing and documenting all these wonderful homes!

Can you just imagine what went into building that masterpiece?!! I'd love to go back in time and let the original owners know how long their home would last and how well taken care of it remains. I'd also love to buy it, remove the 90s wallpaper and curtains, paint it a nice oatmeal or vanilla color throughout that's complimentary to all the gorgeous wood and take really good care of all original materials. With that price tag, it's very affordable.

Beautiful!! Thank you for showing us!! I have a 1924 Chicago bungalow, it has french doors, 10 foot ceilings, floor trim, picture rail, and thick crown molding. All in oak. It also has a brick fireplace with built-in oak bookcases on each side (with glass doors). And of course, all oak floors. It's a fraction of the size of the Arkansas house, but it's my piece of heaven. There are 80,000 bungalows in Chicago, the only problem is, you'd have to have at least $350,000 to buy one. That house would be between $750,000 and a million in Chicago, depending on the neighborhood.

I own books about bungalow period house architecture, details, and style, and this is what’s affectionately called a bunga-mansion! 😍 It could be in my books! That woodwork! 😘 Those amazing original lights! 💗. I believe the number buttons on the windows are there so people can identify what storm windows go to what fixed windows. I assume the storm window hangers are also still on the exterior window frames. I also believe it has the higher ceilings because it’s in Arkansas, with the broiling hot summers, and they’d help the house stay cooler in the heat, along with the fans in the attic. What a great beauty!! 😍😍

This is my dream home. If I ever win the lottery, while I may not be able to find a home like that on the West coast I would replicate it the best I could. All that wood is amazing and the mica light fixtures...amazing!

Honestly they could ask at least $500,000 for this home and it would be worth it.

When you said prairie style, I hoped Frank Lloyd Wright would come up. I adore his work, and would love to live in anything inspired by him. So stunning!

Love, love, love this house! I could not believe the price. It spoke peace and relaxation to me, oh, and Christmas with lots of candles, sparkle, and the smell of food cooking. That fireplace area, wow, just wow and the bathroom fixtures, so gorgeous !! Congrats to the buyer, this is a gem!

I definitely love your knowledge of the old houses, man they have character, 3 inch front door is crazy! Nowadays you lean on the friggin door and you’re going through it almost. 🇨🇦

That home is stunning and it’s miraculous that so much of the original build is intact! Two things that made me want to cry: 1. That nightmare ‘90s makeover of the master bathroom. 2. The ductwork in the attic room. Arkansas wouldn’t be high on my list for where to live, but if I had the money for this home I would. I shudder to think of the “DIYer” that could move in there and immediately start painting the woodwork white “it’s just too dark, y’all!” 🤦🏻

I'm watching again. That porch would be used for all sorts of things. Winter themed dinner parties to name a few. I absolutely love that nook. I really hope the person or people who bought that place truly understand what an amazing gem they have right now. Please be kind to her. She's incredible just the way she is right now. Jeff's wife is crying now because it's not here to love and adore. Right now. 🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄

I LOVE prairie style and arts and crafts. OMG. So glad this home sold. OOOO, the square cut outs in the panelling is gorgeous; it reminds me of the Gamble house. Gorgeous Inglenook.

Jeez, that perfect masterpiece with all the wood and tile and fixtures - in Seattle you'd be looking at a few million for that place. You can't get a one bedroom condo for that price in Seattle. Of course, there are a lot of perks to living in the Pacific Northwest, but still . . . at that price . . .

OMG... The inside of this house looks like our 1873 home, down to the windows and stage in the attic although we have a few more rooms and each of the rooms is trimmed out with a different type of wood. And such as this house, when we bought it all the fixtures were original and not a single ounce of paint have ever touch any of the wood.

That house should be on the historical society list. That way anything that the new owners want to do to the house they would have to get permission from the historical society
