Tobias Vernon welcomes us into his deeply stylish townhouse in Bath. The 8 Holland Street Townhouse, as it is called, occupies three floors of an elegant John Wood house on Brock Street, the road which links two of Bath’s most memorable landmarks, The Circus and the Royal Crescent. The ground floor houses a gallery, the sister of 8 Holland Street’s main space in St James’s, London.
The first floor of the Townhouse is home to a generous sitting room and kitchen with a dining area; the second floor has the main bedroom with a bathroom and dressing room, and two smaller bedrooms with a bathroom occupy the smaller rooms at the top. The interiors are largely a reflection of the 8 Holland Street ethos, which has always been about displaying and juxtaposing pieces in inventive ways against a relatively calm background. Furniture, art and textiles from the entire span of the 20th century mingle with contemporary pieces; each is distinctive and beautiful in its own way, but ideally one would like to take home the lot. Take it easy with the editing! It is OK for the viewer to be able to linger and take it in, no? I feel like I am watching a strobe light. i don't want to have to keep pausing as the narration then also stops.

I hesitate to hang valuable art in a bathroom because the steam from the shower might ruin it. I especially fear hanging anything that’s behind glass or plexiglass because the moisture could be trapped behind it. I am so tempted to do this in my own home but I can’t bear the thought of ruining something precious. Having said this, his home is lovely.

You can get a professional to frame your art so that the steam will not penetrate. I have that for a few pieces and no damage for years.

I can live there full time. Art and figurines are my passion,so looking and this place reminds me of my town house that i live in. I , same colect some Vitra objects, Eames chairs ....and I love Alessi too so this house is very inspiring for my taste. :) Enjoy

Imagine having a beautiful big home like this filled with carefully curated objects and colours and you dont even live in it....honestly pisses me of a little when I see upper class people do these tours of places I can only dream of and they only stay there once in a while. To me thats taking the space for granted. Grateful for my 64m² mid century-modern inspired apartment. It's taken me years to aquire the furniture and pieces I have and I'm all the more thankful for them because of it. And It's as big as I can afford since its so close to the very center of Stockholm.

Nothing is cheap by itself, those are beautiful art pieces. I would never be able to imagine those pieces arranged as poorly as this pedestrian and derivative department store by myself.

@@teixeiradasilva6299 Mate, I heard every word of what he said - it does not matter this is an expensive airbnb. The interior is entirely his personal vision. He carefully curated almost every object in there and nothing in there is derivative. I have not seen any hotel or airbnb, at any price range, that is this well-executed without looking corporate or bland or "derivitive". I'd move there in a heartbeat and not change anything.

Architecturally stunning, but unfortunately the interior choices lets it down. Great example of how often the missed matched idea is taken a step too far. Less is definitely more in this case. Some odd choices of furniture and questionable colours. It reads to me different for the sake of being different. Refining and editing will do miracles in my opinion. Shame as there are plenty of good ideas too, they just get lost in the chaos.

He didn't. He left the actual physical architecture of the place alone. There is no rule saying you must decorate a Georgian property with historically correct furnishings. He has turned it into a lovely, modern place without sacrificing the bones of the house.

I was lucky enough to walk around this townhouse before it opened. Adore every bit of it, so well thought out ( although my only criticism is, too many places have Shrigley's in them - it's almost unoriginal at this point and my artwork is better :)
