I was looking at videos to see how people hooked up the electricity. They almost all skip over that part, but that was the part I was most interested in. Yours was incredibly in depth. I know this takes a lot of time to stop work, record, explain everything, edit it, etc. Thanks for investing the time to educate us all. We appreciate you!

This guy’s channel is something quintessentially Canadian at its best. I keep finding his videos (which aren’t that easy to find sometimes) and his instructions are better than all the hundreds of other channels. And yet he’s the most modest non-showy guy. That’s Canada at its best. Reminds me of Wayne Gretzky , Scoring 5 goals in one game and then just saying he was lucky and has great teammates. Lol

Good video. The reason for limiting the heating cable is due to the change in linear expansion during temperature cycling. There is a slight chance that this could potentially cause the heating cable to fray and create faults.

A tip from people who put in radiant in floor heating. Run a piece of conduit and have it come up in the corner of a bathroom vanity or other hidden place. If a sensor fails you can pull out the old one and stuff a new one down using a fish tape
@HouseImprovements
@HouseImprovements Ай бұрын
The sensor needs to be under the flooring so I'm not sure how you would do that. I installed two sensors and only hooked one up to the thermo, this leaves the extra as a spare behind the thermo. 35Min. mark.

Just a small comment to help to get you recommended on youtube. Great video, still confirm you are the best renovation KZfaqr. I have already installed floor heating cable, but I have to admit, I got a lot of issues with the "self-levelling" concrete. This system seems far better. I will try it when I will renovate my other bathroom. Continue your good work.

Thanks for the great video. When you power on the system for the first time, and run through the setup, how do you calculate the value for floor load? My contractor said to leave it at 0.1kW, which I did, but it seems like a cop-out -- that said, it's working beautifully, so I'm guessing there are minimums for the system. Sorry for the rambling, great channel, you have a new fan, your insight is appreciated. (Go Riders!)

@thomasnorthcastle4130
@thomasnorthcastle4130 3 жыл бұрын
Use “Frog Tape” and apply a very thin bead of caulk between the top of the tape and the wall that you’re painting. You can paint right over the caulk. DO NOT allow the caulk to completely setup. Pull the tape as soon as all coats of paint have been applied. Your paint lines will be RAZOR sharp!!! If you have a scrap piece of drywall, try this method on it so that you can really get you process and timing down. You will be amazed.

It should be run separate. It does not need to be in a conduit though because it is low voltage. Run it up the wall cavity and sneak it into the box through a hole .

Thanks for doing this in depth series on the Ditra products. I think their waterproofing system is very well designed & you make it look easy. Have you ever used their styrofoam shower curb & pan system? Having seen Styrofoam compress underneath other products (big box store showers & tubs) I really hesitate to use it underneath a custom tile job. .
@HouseImprovements
@HouseImprovements 4 жыл бұрын
I have used their shower bases and curbs 4 times. All worked out fine and are pretty easy installs. The foam curbs are all best used with small glass panels or sliding type glass doors, so they are not supporting too much weight IMO.
@davidpost3325
@davidpost3325 2 жыл бұрын
I have been installing Schluter pans with curbs and curbless, with tile ranging from typical shower mosaics all the way up to the gauged porcelain tile panels (3’x9’!) for 6 years. With proper support from your subfloor (important)-there has never been an issue. It isnt an industry hack like some of the other cost cutting methods you mentioned, it’s expressly made for this application, and does it well. It shines most when you start wanting to use larger tiles in your shower and require a stable slope, which hot mixes can’t guarantee well. But ultimately the time saved and minimizing extra weight are the reasons most tile installers have switched.

@HouseImprovements
@HouseImprovements 4 жыл бұрын
It depends on the flooring. The flooring must be able to be installed over electric heat cable floors. If it can you could do this and then use a self leveller over the Ditra to embed the entire cable I would think it should be fine ,however I have never done that with this product. I think most plank flooring only allow Hydronic floor heat not electric but I could be wrong?? Check with flooring manufactures
