“Just because I can push through the pain doesn’t mean it’s not there.” FACTS. I only recently, like a month ago, was diagnosed with chronic inflammation in my joints. I’d mentioned feeling discomfort in the same areas to people before, especially when I was powerlifting and kickboxing…”drink more protein” “stretch before and after workouts” “drink more water”. Turns out I have a legit medical condition I’d just grown used to.
@JustAdude291
@JustAdude291 Жыл бұрын
well to be fair, you can't really expect non-medical people to understand and diagnose your issues. Their suggestions really aren't that unreasonable, I don't think they were intentionally dismissing or invalidating you. A lot of things are simple lifestyle changes versus a chronic illness. But only you know what you're experiencing, which is why we're trained to believe your pain is what you say it is, test, and treat accordingly. Hope you're hanging in there
@JustAdude291

but to add to your original point, that's very much true. Pain is subjective and so is people's responses to pain. Any good provider or practitioner will recognize that and trust your word.

@@JustAdude291 I totally agree with you; sadly those were from medical doctors and nurse practitioners. I even had one whose solution to everything was “lose weight” and a prescription of phentermine. No tests, no actual examinations. It wasn’t until I consulted with a doctor in Chicago who insisted on running actual lab work that we found more than just the inflammation issues. When I told him about my past experiences trying to communicate these symptoms, he was *livid* and apologized to me on their behalf. I do have a fantastic doctor now who is treating all my health issues very effectively! I’m just angry it took 30+ years for someone to listen to me.
@JustAdude291
@JustAdude291 Жыл бұрын
@@nikkiberns1365 Geez, I assure you as a nurse that is indeed aggravating and upsetting. Sorry you had to deal with that. I know hindsight is 20/20, but it's so important to advocate for yourself, but it's not your fault at all. It can be hard to know what to advocate for, (physical assessments, doing imaging, drawing labs, etc.), that's why it's frustrating. Mind if I ask what condition you were diagnosed with? It sounds like maybe they assumed it was some osteoarthritis (often called wear and tear arthritis), which is why they told you to focus solely on lifestyle choices (losing weight is part of OA treatment), but I'm just speculating. Even then, they definitely should of looked closer and ran some tests.

right, I love this show but it's so far from reality often times. Like they'll immediately overcomplicate something and start with more complicated diagnostic tests rather than starting simple with basic exams, labs, and imaging. Don't get me started on how nonexistent nurses are in medical shows either. It's dramatic for the sake of entertainment, so I often find you can't look too much into the show otherwise it's just absurd and doesn't make any sense. This one episode a patient who presents with flu-like symptoms and altered LOC, they treat for cancer with radiation, becomes severely immunocompromised and dies from staph... Instead of just looking simply at signs/symptoms and drawing labs in the first place. Turns out it was a staph infection from a bra strap cut. So not one nurse or anyone did a skin check at any point either? You could go on and on about that these. When you work in healthcare, you're just left dumbfounded lmao

Like most people, the writers think REM sleep is what you need. REM is the stage you are in that is just deeper than dozing. It does not refresh you. The stage of sleep you need to heal and actually feel rested is stage 3/stage 4 sleep. This is deep sleep from which it is the most difficult to be awoken from. If you consider yourself a light sleeper and are tired even with an adequate amount of hours you may be spending too much time in REM and not enough time in deep sleep.

What do we do when we have diagnosed every person on earth?
@seanwebb605
@seanwebb605 3 ай бұрын
Well the population isn't fixed. There are people who are dead today who were alive yesterday. There are new people today that hadn't been born yet yesterday. Our species evolves slowly, but we don't fully understand everything knowable about it yet. Other organisms that cause us sickness also evolve. Often much faster than we do. And new organisms emerge, are discovered or make contact with our own as time goes forward. There is no end point in life sciences.

I had a giant needle just like that inserted into my spine! The "Doctor" I had missed his mark with the initial lidocaine to numb the area. The Doctor said "I'm going to give you a smaller injection of lidocaine so you don't feel the Bigger needle" He missed both times! First with the lidocaine, and then with the giant needle! He hit a nerve or something and I literally could not walk! for several months and had excruciating pain! That never went away. It was supposed to be guided by ultra sound or x-ray and the machine was broken and the nurse asked the Doctor, "are you still going to do the procedure?" She seemed shocked based on her tone and facial expressions. But I trusted the Doctor because we tend to do that. Anyways lesson learned, Do Not Trust someone just because of their Title. Everyone makes mistakes! I felt every slight movement of that giant needle! I could literally feel it tearing through my muscle tissue, other soft tissues etc! It was horrible! Then when he hit my nerves in my spine I felt a huge electric shock through my entire body and the pain just kept increasing more and more! and it felt like I had a red hot fire poker or spear in my spine! And like it was being torn out repeatedly and then Stuck back in! Even after he took the needle out. The pain lasted like that for months! Extremely bad pain and they had to give me really strong pain meds. I was prescribed really high mg oxycodone and Hydrocodone and a bunch of other stuff! None of it helped! It was horrible and still is! I ended up highly addicted to pain meds. I still have really severe pain, but I refuse pain meds because they don't help and I don't want any addiction issues again! Be careful!

Almost the same happened to me, he managed to apply the meds to numb the area and all but he missed the spot with the needle and i think he hit a nerve or something, i couldn't walk properly for 2 years and every time i tried to walk for more than a few minutes started to feel an incredibly amount on pain from my back and below, i eventually got better but i never want to do that again, even medics can be bad it seems.
