Season 1 Episode 1 "Everybody Lies"
Rebecca Adler, a 29-year-old kindergarten teacher, becomes dysphasic and collapses in her classroom. Dr. Gregory House initially refuses the case until Dr. James Wilson tells him that Rebecca is his cousin. When Dr. Lisa Cuddy tries to make House fulfil his clinical duties, he refuses but is forced to do them when his authorisation to the MRI is revoked. He diagnoses Rebecca with cerebral vasculitis and her condition improves with treatment. To find the source of Rebecca's seizures, House convinces Dr. Eric Foreman to break into Rebecca's house. At the hospital, Rebecca suddenly loses her vision and suffers another seizure.

Watched my father die in hospice care. I was the only one in the family who'd seen death before, even my family members who'd watched others passed were prepared for how bad it was going to get. Clawing at his skin, screaming our names and begging for help, screaming he was dying, trying to fight the nurses. People aren't ready for just how bad it gets, I almost feel it's important to see it. Let us see our fate down the line, makes life so much more valuable.

It's very different but it also isn't completely right. He is right, how we die has no dignity, the body breaks down, or gets broken, is set on fire, falls apart, there is no dignity in that. Buildings of historical value have to be repaired to maintain their dignity the old building falling apart and uncared for is demolished no matter it's age. But there is Dignity in how we face death. To face death, to accept the end and choose when you go has a level of dignity to it. Specially if the life you would lead if you choose to fight it would be one without control, without the power to determine your own future.

He sees peoples' illnesses as puzzles to be solved for his own narcissistic reasons. He does learn to appreciate others but never entirely. Even in the series finale, sure he faked his death to be with a dying Wilson, but not because Wilson needed him, but because HE needed Wilson.

@@stagglee1227 I wouldn't say he doesn't have empathy, I'd go as far as saying the reason why he doesn't like seeing patients is because he doesn't think he can make the correct decisions / risks once he has met the patients and their families. He keeps that distance so he doesn't have to empathise with them, keep them as a puzzle. His behaviour is strange at best though. Unsure where I'd place him. Wow, you got pretty creative with your interpretation of that line there... He wasn't making a threat of any kind, he was merely completing her line of reasoning, "What makes you think I'm so much better than you...when I'm scared I'll turn into you?" Except he said it, not her; the revelation of her concern; she insightfully understood his existential lot, & she didn't want to wind up with the same hell. I hope that was clear 😊

she should've refused to take the pill. this show needs an episode where a patient stands up to these self-righteous assholes. imo, nobody should ever give a doctor the satisfaction of saving their life. they don't deserve that kind of power. all these people live for is humiliating anybody that didn't go to med school or law school, so they can act like they're god's greatest gift to the universe.

@@shanayazaveri2620 That's just a talking point. "doing good" is an extremely subjective sentiment. In their minds, they're always doing good, and everyone else is always wrong. The problem is the immense amount of power they have. They literally have the power to save someone's life. Why would they deserve to have that kind of power? Because you feel they're mature enough to not be corrupted by it? Who the hell are you to objectively determine that to be even remotely true? These people are brainwashed Nazis in white coats and business suits. They go to school to be indoctrinated in bigotry and ignorance. All who don't conform are insane, and they're always right. That's the limit of their critical thinking skills. Even when shown documentaries and books explaining what's actually going on, they simply refuse to understand. They know everything better. I would personally rather die than allow ANY of them to take credit for saving my life. On this entire planet, there could easily be ZERO doctors who are genuinely moral human beings with an actual functioning conscience. It. Simply. Does. Not. Exist.

They would go back and forth a lot, Jane laying out House's mind bare, House insulting him and showing him the ugly truth about how life is regardless to Jane's hiding behind clever tricks and ruses.
