That is not the reaction I would have if I found out I'd been getting roofied by a sibling. Some things are never ok, regardless of anyone's best intentions. Drugging a person without their knowledge or consent is one of those things.

Um… this is NOT like Alice in Wonderland Syndrome that I know. I had it when I was 10. It was terrifying. It lasted about 6 months. It was not from drugs, or mold, or bats. Nowadays, they think AIWS is from a virus, and I tend to agree, being that whenever I feel a cold coming on, I sometimes get twinges of AIWS.

Same. Or it’s stress/sleep deprivation.
@Kahli21
@Kahli21 2 жыл бұрын
It can be related to seizures and types of migraines related to seizures too. Children often grow out of it too, but a small percentage of adults still have it. Mine is brought on by a lack of sleep and I have migraines that are treated by anti-seizure medication (don't have seizures though). But yeah, it's NOTHING like what they depicted here. This is just straight up hallucinations. The only AIWS symptom depicted was the spatial changes when she was on the roof looking at the sister, and the distance was changing.

It's not as bad now, and I only get a episode MAYBE once a month, but this is NOT what it's like at all. it's just perspective change, either everything seems smaller/larger, or father away/way too close, sometimes with sensory issues (touching anything feels like I need to peel my own skin off, even my own skin.)

This actually does a fairly decent job in highlighting Histoplasmosis in my honest opinion, it's something not a lot of people know about. In 2015, my older sister was setting up these beautiful flower beds in her front yard, and she would make routine trips to the local dump to a large dirt pile there to collect dirt for them. It was a dirt pile we all played on as kids, when you grow up in a small town, things like dirt piles and rock piles just excite you, it's weird. Anyway, we've been around it for years, never had any issues, but when my sister went back to get some dirt for her flower beds, she contracted Histoplasmosis and carried it for months. It manifested in September as a cough, over time the cough would get worse and worse, she would go to doctors, they would tell her it was allergies until finally she stopped going and resorted to self medicating. Cough medicine, allergy meds, she kept going until one night, she noticed it hurt to laugh, and the next morning she couldn't breathe. She went to the hospital late October, and the Histoplasmosis had actually found a way into her bloodstream through her lungs, and it attacked a lymph node in the center of her chest, causing it to die, swell to the size of a fist, and put pressure on her lungs and her heart, causing her breathing difficulties and pain. Originally, it presented itself as Lymphoma, but when they went in to remove the dead lymph node, some tests were ran (I assume, I was 15 at the time and my memory is skewed.) and that's how they found the Histoplasmosis. She was on a ventilator throughout November, and was home early December, and had a PICC line throughout January for my mother to administer her medicine, since she was staying with my mom at the time. By February, around my birthday, my sister had fully recovered and all that was left to do was gradually build back up the strength in her muscles, as throughout her multi-month stay in the hospital, her muscles had atrophied. My sister went down in medical history as not only the first case of Histoplasmosis in my area (We were told by the doctors that this is typically found in more humid/tropic environments, not Central Illinois.), but how it afflicted her and how it had spread to her lymph node was something that wasn't really heard of. My sister is a survivor, something that may seem as mundane as a fungal infection that's relatively easily treatable can turn out to be so much worse if not promptly treated. If my sister's prior doctors had just ran more tests, they would have found it much sooner I'm sure, but at the same time-- This isn't Florida. This isn't Louisiana, California, there is barely any tropical weather to be had in a small town surrounded by cornfields in the middle of Illinois. They wouldn't have known to look for something like that, especially since my sister doesn't travel. It's as my sister's surgeon put it to her, it was just a very very horrible case of bad luck that she was collecting dirt from a pile that no-one would have guessed would have been contaminated in the first place.

Reading through this comment section is making me wonder whether this is what I was sometimes experiencing as a child. I remember occasionally when I was trying to fall asleep that I would get this incredibly overwhelming sensation that everything was too big and too small all at once, which made me get up and pace around my room for a bit until it went away. There were also some nights where if I couldn't sleep I saw small patterns and shapes orbiting around me as if I was in the center of an orb or dorm or something. It was kind of like those kids toys a while ago that had those star shaped lights go around the room. It was weird. I know I grew out of it sometime before high school but this just reminded me of it.

I have had this since I began puberty. Mine is diagnosed as connected to my migraines. This is not even remotely close to its symptoms. I is altered perception of size of self and other objects. Mine manifest through physical sensation I will at times feel like I am physically 8ft tall (actually 5’9”) or like I am shrinking. You whole nervous system perceives it. Some do have a visual component, I don’t which makes it a battle between what I see and what I physically sense.

Definitely not how I experience it. That looks a lot more like full-blown hallucinations, delusions and psychosis. One thing (and probably the only thing) I saw that was correct is that it often happens around sleep. While it can take many forms, it often manifests as a strictly perceptual disorder, in that people will see things farther away or of different size. In most cases, the person experiencing it is of sound mind and can describe it as it is happening. They also wouldnt be compelled to harm themselves barring other psycopathology.

This is nothing like AIWS?? I have AIWS and it's more like feeling or seeing things as really small or big, and feeling like my body is giant (kinda an out-of-body experience) or feeling tiny, or like I'm standing on the wall and that I'm going to fall down, etc, not full blown visual delusions

Concierge doctors, which in the US are private doctors that you "subscribe" to for a monthly fee. It's a very wealthy American thing...

@shutterchick79
@shutterchick79 2 жыл бұрын
@@jimkoss3318 Assuming you mean government owned or subsidized, no. It's all private, out of pocket pay. Its more like a subscription plan - you pay the doctor a monthly fee, and they're there when you need them. I'm not sure of the details. Maybe the subscription plan details differ between doctors. It seems most like "insurance" that you pay directly to the doctor...

@@aliceramdom.s this isn't an example of a medical condition being different for each person, it's a completely inaccurate depiction of a medical condition. AIWS causes a person's perception of themselves or the world around to appear bigger or smaller than they should be. It absolutely DOES NOT cause straight up hallucinations or mental impairment. The closest thing this episode got "right" is her perceptions being at night which is most of these happen
