My son sleepwalked for a while, and we figured out if you went "off script", his brain couldn't answer, so if he was awake at night, we would ask him if he was asleep. You don't often get asked if you're asleep. If he didn't answer, he was sleepwalking.

In high school, I babysat my neighbor's kids. One of them would sometimes doze off while we watched TV near bedtime. He slept with his eyes open, and if I walked to another part of the living room, his eyes would track me. It was a slow, laggy drift, like a haunted doll's eyes. A little unsettling, but his parents were aware of it and they said it wasn't an issue. He'd blink once in a while, so he wasn't drying them out.

The whole "going off script" thing kinda reminds me of what I used to do with my schizophrenic biological father. I haven't seen or spoken to him in years, but he would get stuck like a broken record when he was in the middle of an episode. If I asked him five different questions and got the same answer five times, it meant I needed to get some help.

If they had decided to go the comedic route during the reveal that the daughter was asleep, House would've said something like, "Can I take your dad's car out for a spin?" And she'd say, "Sure." Cuddy would be mildly confused until House asks, "Will Cuddy let me skip my next 30 hours of clinic duty?" And the girl responds "Yes," and then House stares at her and says, "In your dreams..." and the camera pans to the daughter's cold stare.

“Leukaemia has false negatives all the time” - yep, does it ever. My grandma was sick for months and the doctors couldn’t figure out what it was. @jessicacharlton7347 2 жыл бұрын
@@notbob555 I saw your comment and looked online to find information about people driving in their sleep and, like I suspected, everything I could find said that this is extremely dangerous. Even people who have driven in their sleep without wrecking, which is rare, usually do wreck eventually if they don't take steps to prevent this from happening again. Some sleepwalkers really do seem like they're awake but these sleepwalkers are not fully aware of what's going on around them and their judgement is impaired. It's not possible to be fully aware of everything around you and to not have your judgement impaired while you're sleeping. That's why we do things and accept things in dreams that we wouldn't do or accept in real life. Our judgement is impaired. I can't believe I'm having this conversation. There's actually a difference between occasional episodes of sleep-walking (which is more common in children, but they often grow out of it) and more dangerous REM sleep behaviour disorder. Also, some sleepwalking is not actually during REM sleep, but other stages of sleep closer to the twilight zone between sleep and wakefulness. Personally, I used to sleep talk a lot as a teenager and once sleepwalked to the bathroom door. I only know about this because I used to share my bedroom with my older sister, so she'd tell me what antics I got up to the next morning. Mostly I'd mumble words or times/numbers, but I also once initiated a conversation with my sister saying "Meow, kitten".

I do, however, vaguely recall having a conversation years ago about it with someone. That doesn't mean it's true. Hell, Doesn't even mean the conversation actually happened. ADHD does a funny thing with your memory. If anyone who is actually versed in this topic, I'd love to hear what your take is on this and what some interesting resources on the topic might be. I used to sleepwalk when I was a child. I set off our house alarm opening a side door one time, and another time I almost peed on our sofa thinking it was the toilet. Luckily my mom was there to intervene lol 😆

I sleepwalk to the toilet at night. When I was 8 years' old we went on a cruise ship and because it wasn't my house I got confused as to where the toilet was. I pulled out the bottom dresser drawer and started pulling down my pants. My parents woke up and took me to the toilet. No clothes or furniture were damaged that night! But close call.

This episode reminds me of the time i was apparently sleepwalking when i was young once. I remember my parents asking me about stuff i did and said one night, having no memory of it. Then my mom explained how i got up out of bed, came to the living room and was watching TV with her and my dad. I can't remember exactly what she said i was talking about, but i have no memory of any of it. As far as i know, it never happened again. Although, there have been reports of me talking in my sleep a few times in my life. It's strange to think about the idea of yourself being asleep and yet you're still consciously moving around, having conversations, and making decisions.

Sleepwalking is weird man. I had an ex who would wander out into the middle of the road. Living in a high ag area during harvest season. A good way to get crushed by a tractor. Narcolepsy is weird too. I was a horse trainer for many years, and I knew several horses with Narcolepsy during my career. One was a big warmblood gelding who had never had these issues before. He started passing out and falling down while being groomed before a ride. The vet's big question was, "what's changed?" Since he had never had narcoleptic episodes before, she thought something had changed so he wasn't sleeping properly. Turns out, his next door neighbor (who was also there on a rehabilitation stint) had recovered and gone home. Poor Roy wasn't sleeping because he missed his friend. We switched around stabling of horses until we found a companion for him that he liked. Roy started sleeping better at night, and stopped falling over on me while I was saddling him. Sleep stuff is weird bro.

I was sleepwalking when I was younger, around 9 years old. The only reason I know this is because I had found mud on my indoor shoes, something that wasn't there when I went to sleep. I had in my sleep put on my shoes, walked through my parents room to reach the hallway door, went down the stairs then unlocked the outside door and went outside to do something, before going back to bed, closing and locking the door behind me. I never knew how I didn't wake up my parents.

I've woken up in our car in the garage, the livingroom with the television & lights all on, eating, and many times walking around the backyard at night. Luckily I've never woke up driving my car, that would be scary. The doctors told my parents it was triggered by stress, basically I act out my dreams at night.
