Video was great, but as a biology nerd I just had to correct on the reason insects become resistant :) In a population there will be some individuals that are more resistant to a pesticide due to having certain genes. When you use the pesticide you will kill off most of the population and these resistant insects are the ones that survive to reproduce. As pests are very fast breeding it won't take long for the resistance genes to be in most if not all individuals. Using different pesticides will help as that individual is less likely to be resistant to 2 or more different pesticides - but it can happen (and the more you use them, the more likely this is to happen!).

lenblake4752 , your insight into pesticide resistance and the biology behind it adds valuable depth to our understanding. Your explanation is spot-on, highlighting the importance of strategic pesticide use and the potential for resistance. I've saved more plants by just using humidity domes or putting them in water. Things like light is kinda hard, I feel like if you're checking in on your plants everyday, you just have a knowledge of "I need to move this," or "less light.." a lot is trial and error until it's just collected knowledge. Unfortunately. It's also about acclimation, so it's not straight forward.
@Houseplantygoodness
@Houseplantygoodness 4 ай бұрын
You've perfectly captured the essence of plant care! It's indeed a mix of intuition, experimentation, and experience. Understanding the nuances of light and how to adjust care for each plant's needs can be complex but rewarding. Acclimation is key, as you mentioned, and it's great to hear how you've found success with humidity domes and water propagation. Your approach highlights the importance of patience and learning from each plant's unique requirements. Keep sharing your insights, as they're invaluable to fellow plant enthusiasts!

I have 2 "Watch later" play lists that I will use to "park" a video that popped up in my feed but don't have the time to watch at the moment. Hi Memo, I hope your dad's ok, I enjoyed seeing their plants. I loved the cyclamens, so beautiful! 🌴 🇦🇺 short or long I always watch to the end. As always, fantastic information from your experiences. For pests, half strength pyrethrum (natural not synthetic) and soapy water are my go to's. Moss poles I've been using PVC pipe. Large ones can be cut in half to make a D pole, the narrowest one I drill 3 holes, wrap in moss, and landscape material. Pour water in the top and done. I use a connector to seal the pipe so it doesn't drain into the pot.

🌴 This comment is going to be annoyingly long and completely unrelated to this particular video, but I watched your obliqua video awhile back, and wanted to let you know that I've had pretty decent success (75ish%), getting the "runner" cuttings to root/grow in a completely enclosed environment (I used a large glass jar). Threw some leca/perlite/activated charcoal in the bottom, put some live sphagnum moss (from a failed attempt to use it as top dressing for a few nepenthes) on top of that, then laid the runner nodes on top of that. Then misted lightly, closed it up, put it under a grow light, and waited. And waited. Entire civilizations have risen and crumbled in the time it takes them to start doing anything whatsoever. 3 or 4+ months later, however, I had roots and small leaves from about 7/10. Just fyi. Thanks for all your videos/content, it is much appreciated.

🌴Thrips are making my life hell right now. My plants are still healthy but I’m finding adult thrips on the daily, in every section of plants. I’ve done 3 rounds of lacewings now but I just have too many plants to afford enough beneficial bugs. And since systemic is not available in Canada, I’ve resorted to trying to find someone who has some stashed away to sell to me. I’m so over it.

I'm in Canada too. It's so unfortutnate that we don't get any of those systemics here. I mean, couldn't we at least get one?? Have you tried Doktor Doom?
