Great show, and remember: Talking to plants is fine, even good. The problem comes if they start talking back to you.

I don’t wanna make this the top comment because it’s not why we love and adore Emma but I had the slightest suspicion she was seeing someone (and living with her partner?) for a while. So happy to see you’re comfortable enough on here to share with us. Loved the video Emma, you’ve inspired me to get more plants.

Such cute plants from a wonderful person! Much love to Ivy, Death Spike, and the rest of them ❤️❤️. As a budding (pun intended) plant scientist, I do have an answer to your small question about the parsley, you can honestly start using them for food anytime before they start flowering! Once they start flowering the plants move all of their energy and resources into making the flowers big and beautiful for reproduction…. Which unfortunately takes a lot of the flavor away from the leafy material which we humans like to munch on. Same thing for basil- once it starts getting its true leaves you can use those whenever (just make sure to leave a few so it can still absorb sunlight).

Love this! I’m a plant mum too, the one plant I seem to struggle with is a monstera so seeing yours was a big plant goal moment. Every monstera I’ve had has been so fussy and I just can’t seem to please them 🤷‍♀️. I’m growing herbs and spring onions outside and also have no clue when I can start to use them 😂

I relate so much to the pothos propagation agenda 😆 I have a big pothos plant from which I made two tiny ones and I just love them so much, they're really pretty and so easy to take care of! Lovely, you look after your plants so well. They are amazing! I think orchids are the easiest to grow for me, Just put them next to the sunny window. They do not need much water. So very suitable for me who easily forgot to water all the time. Mine are flowering all the time and even gave some baby orchids. I just finished reading the Padro Paramo in Chinese on kindle. I think it is definitely great, very different from the traditional classic novels, and in an impressive way. It is only a bit depressing. So I will read something else first and then try to read the English version of it. :)

Oooh, yes, plants ❤ This video was a lovely reminder to take care of my own hahaha. Some of my favourites are the chinese money plant, some different ferns, cissus rhombifolia (grape ivy? koningswingerd in dutch), the prayer plant (maranta leuconeura) and aloe (I got two babies from a friend and for years they barely survived and then I moved them to a sunnier spot and within months they're huge). I recently propagated a spiderplant and wow that was easy. Now one of the babies is almost as big as the parent. And I split up a plant that looks like a succulent but apparently isn't that I can't remember the name of and omg it's an explosion of plants. And lastly I have a bunch of herbs and a few flowering plants on the balcony.

The herbs can be left until they are much bigger and sturdier and then you'll get more from them for your cooking as they'll then be able to withstand having leaves picked regularly.

The plant you thought was part of the pilea family is actually a peperomia obtusifolia (baby rubber plant)! I LOVE both pileas and peps so much, and once u get the hang of peps, they’re really easy to care for! Just never overwater! I do a “taco test”: if the leaves start to fold like a taco, it’s time to water. Some of my recs: syngonium (arrowhead plant, easy care and they grow like crazy), pilea cadierei (aluminum plant, same care as pilea glauca), and scindapsus (common name satin pothos but they’re not pothos, they do have the same care tho) 🪴 As a bookworm who loves plants, this is a great video 😍

Wisterias (which grow in northern Iran) apparently also grow in southern Canada so if you like hanging plants like dichondra they'd probably be the most "colorful" addition to your collection. Or if you don't want them inside you can hang them out your window, either way they are my favorites. But yeah, you'll need lots of water which can always be a hassle.

Great start. That was a pure laugh. The pots in the kitchen are too small if you plan to harvest every week. I hope your feeding them every couple of weeks over the year except in the winter. With those small pots the roots dry out and stunts them.

I love winter and rainy days and nights, so I was wondering if you had further recommendations of books with lots of rainy days/nights in them. You can have more lower light stuff, succulents love sun so they may not thrive in your space. Most tropicals (pothos, snake plants, and aglaonema for example) would be fine with morning light. You can also get an inexpensive grow bulb (the GE one is good) to help your higher light plants out!

Emma, as a nature girl and an avid reader you need to read the non-fiction book from Canada, called Finding the Mother Tree...Discovering the Wisdom of the Forest by Suzanne Simard.
