Awesome video! I think the future of the plant community/content is maturing plants, getting stubborn plants to bloom, plant care/chores and acquiring wish list plants at a fair price.

1. love your hair 2. This video is great, love the chatty format. But i also loved the "botanical" videos. Science (like botany) changes all the time, but if people can't deal with it, that's not your fault 3. I always like to see hoyas that look good as display plants, so I scan hoya channels to get ideas about trellising and displaying/pruning/growing them out to look good. Plus I might see one that I decide I can't live without. I also always wish someone would interview some of the botanists working on Hoyas and maybe some of the big collectors. It would be so interesting to hear them talk about the topic, but I am a huge nerd.

1. I love my hair too, more and more every day. My friend gave me a haircut and she is not a hairdresser even. Yet, the best haircut I got. 2. Glad to hear you liked this format :D I do like botanical videos but maybe with less pressure to find information to make Hoya interesting beyond what is already there. I mean, I don't mind the deep dives but at one point I was reading George Finlayson's journal and retelling his journey for I have no idea what video on what hoya. It was really grasping at straws to make a Hoya interesting XD 3. Of course, I am a master at trellising, so I will share all my skills :D I would love to interview Nathalie or Michele, but I don't think they'd be up for it :D But I mean, have I dreamed about this? Have I had imaginary conversations? Do I have questions ready? And did we become best friends after the imaginary interviews? Yes to all.

You, Miro are one of my top 5 youtubers. I'm here to watch you, no matter what your content. :) As far as the Plant hobby saturation: (my raw thoughts): we all have finite space and limited time and energy; it is simply not sustainable (or natural) for one person to be responsible for the lives of hundreds of plants 24/365. I've taken a long hard look at how I spend my time, and having a balance is super important. To be clear, I will always like and grow plants. But particularly, I enjoy native plant gardening and watching and encouraging native plants indigenous to my region interacting and contributing to the local ecosystem, supporting insects, etc. And it gives me healthy and much-needed time outdoors. The plants in my living room I consider my guilty pleasure - I thoroughly enjoy and cherish them but recognize that they will never contribute to the ecosystem where I live and will forever depend on me 100% to survive.
@BasiePlants
@BasiePlants 8 ай бұрын
Oh gosh, top 5 youtubers?! :D Thank you! :D I definitely agree it is not sustainable to have insanely large collections, especially if this is not your main thing. I have no idea how some people keep up. I mean, we can say this is my main occupation and I also struggle with the size of the collection. Yes, they are not going to contribute to the ecosystem, however, with some of these plants we can argue that collecting them and keeping them at home is part of the preservation process as many come from now sadly deforested and devasted areas and while they are in cultivation, they are gone in nature.

I joined the instagram plant community in 2017 and started my (now deleted) channel in 2019. The plant community is completely different now. I feel like it went from sharing the love of plants to everyone constantly buying new ones and sharing the expensive "rare" plants you could get. I got caught up in buying plants just because they were popular or because I could and got so burnt out. I almost never watch plant content anymore because I got sick of seeing, like you said, the same recycled ideas and hauls. I got rid of my channel because the only videos I ever got decent views on were either hauls or plant tours when I had 250+ plants. I love chatty videos though because it shows personality more. 😌

Yeah, I was really hoping the plant content would somehow change and I tried throwing perhaps too many ideas on the wall to see what will stick (kinda still doing it lol XD) but eventually it starts becoming frustrating when you know all you need to do is a haul video or some type of a list. Especially the lists had their moments. Now it seems to be some clickbaity shocking plant advice - DO THIS if you want your plant to grow faster or NEVER DO THIS etc. I also rarely watch plant videos, but here and there I will watch some. It almost feels hypocrytical - making plant videos and not watching them xD

I hope you don’t take this the wrong way, but annoyed- Miro is my favorite Miro ❤ I can’t speak too much on the dwindling in interest of plants. I only got interested this summer so I didn’t get a chance to witness the hype during COVID. It’s probably like most things though. There will be a different wave of new plant parents to replace the ones that have moved on to different hobbies/interests. What I WILL say is when I first started I would watch a ton of educational vids so that I may learn more. Now that I sorta think I know what I’m doing I’m continuing to watch based on the creators personality. You could post a video of you walking to get your mail and I know it would be entertaining lol Anyway, this has been long enough. Happy Holidays ❤

For me, the fatigue comes from the constant changing “hype” plants. I just don’t care about the 90 million Lacunosas or the variegated versions of plants I already have. I hate the feeling of having to “keep up.” Same as you - I’m more interested in the difficult to cultivate, rare collector’s species. I also think drama that occurs in the plant community has soured me in a lot of ways. There are a lot of wonderful people, but ya know… all it takes is a couple of sour grapes to ruin it. So I watch your channel, keep to myself and do my own thing with my Hoyas 😃
@liannemares4517
@liannemares4517 3 ай бұрын
I agree 100% with this 🙌 it's the constant (over) hypeing of different things that make me bored. I think maybe hoyas have been a bit different in that regard, those people tend to like what they like, and that's that. But the aroids. Jeeez. Monstera this, and philodendron that, and shops making up names to make money, and people making fake plants (ref. Pink congo) and ALL THE VARIEGATES. Enough already. And the prices of certain things - like monstera albo when that first took off - INSANE! I mean, they are obviously really pretty plants, but come on 😅

You have become one of my favourite plant people online! You're funny, articulate, opinionated, knowledgeable and sarcastic at yourself as well as at the world--all great traits. Plus, I like the length of your videos, which are generally nicely under an hour long. I've stopped watching a few of the popular plant channels because I am not interested in a two hour tour of their plants or of repotting chores. I've noticed a few of them are also lamenting their 'collections' getting way out of control/full of pests, and now they're going to declutter, etc. All good...but I sit quietly here chuckling, as I've been gardening indoors and out longer than most of them have been alive, with gazillions of indoor plants, and I was oblivious to the whole big houseplant community explosion when COVID started (mostly because I was busy dealing with cancer)...anyway, that was a silly ramble, when mostly I wanted to say, love your channel, I learn heaps from you and you're feeding my hoya obsession.

I cannot tell you how much I enjoy your videos, your sense of humor and thank you for sharing your content with us all. There are so many positive comments below and I entirely agree with them. There are mainly hoyas in my collection, and it is amazing to think that they still find new species, as well as sad to know that there may be some species that may go extinct before we know they exist. It is so exciting to get a variety to bloom for the first time, and see your favorites throw up a new leaf or rebloom. My main challenge right now is that I have to make a major move to a different city and have to re-home a lot of plants. Did that mean there was a halt on buying hoyas? Of course not! Just buying a lot fewer and be sure they are small. I will say I did enjoy wish list videos because they bring attention to new varieties, but that can be done in another format. New Kids in the Jungle? Anyway, I hope you are feeling better.

I understand the fatigueness and many planty ppl seems to talk about it. I consider myself as a mild hoya enthusiastic, but I have some patient, I've had plants long time and I was happy to see houseplants coming as a trend during covid. I was ready to wait untill the prices dropped, it was sure to happen as markets live. I think mostera variagated was one of the firsts hyped in world and a year ago I bought one from grocery store next to me with a good deal and I have already gifted part of it for my friend for free. I had 3 hoyas already when I found hoya community and saw how huge variety there was, I have bought some new cuttings or plants which were under 10 euros early autumn and I think my plant collection will stay in this for years - I want to wait how will the plants turn up. So, what many channels are lacking, is the grown plants - blooming, being huge and glorifious. How are they going to see on a trellis and so on. For collectors is not always so easy to get it and I'm sure many likes to see the new species, but maybe a thought if you think ideas for videos. Also I like just watch your doing your plants chores and drinking coffee or tea, you have relaxing and heartful attitude which is something to cherish these days. Keep Well Miro!

In my 20's I was that housemate who gradually brought in and then propagated 75 houseplants, in our living room. My housemates were polite lol. When I have had outdoor space, a few pots of tomatoes became a container garden food forest where I grew a year's worth of ingredients for pesto and baba ganoush. Now I am in a small apartment that's wall to wall hoyas, many more than the 75 that was a lot for my housemates, because it's just me here - no sensible people to slow me down. Born this way lol. My current wants are ways to make my home more liveable. Ways to put hangers and shelves on every possible space, please. Pest control specifics, iver and over again, because once you have so many plants close together, if one small mite or root mealy comes in on my hands after visiting plants somewhere, they will multiply and be everywhere. And anything about streamlining plant care time, because I would like more time for (gasp!) other things, and people. These are forever topics. I have been at this 40+ years.

I have enjoyed partaking in the plant hobby for many years; long before the pandemic phenomenon. I have to say I deeply resent the price gouging that has gone on in the plant community, and don't feel at all sorry for semi-professional plant aficionados selling overpriced plants who have lost their shirts with the steep decline of prices. I have somewhere around 300 plants, and I am absolutely exhausted with caring for so many plants. I do still enjoy the hobby a lot, but I am downsizing my collection by at least 1/3rd. I would love it if you always showcased at least one plant in your videos. I love seeing them. When you acquired them, from who, ease of care, etc. Just a Miro story would be fine. Hope you feel better soon. Don't let the slow down in plant interest effect you to much. We will always be out here.

I find this discourse really fascinating and accurate to the direction that the plant community and plant content is going. More than ever, I think that plant creators that want consistent viewership are going to need to lean more on personality and "vibe" than solely on content, because so many of those content ideas have been pretty exhausted and have gotten repetitive, and "how-to-care-for-this-specific-plant" videos may give you subscribers and views but not dedicated followers. I think that there's also room to creatively execute the same ideas, presenting similar content (ie. plant chores and genus collection videos and favorites videos) but in a new or refreshing way. Overall, I enjoyed this format and I think you should do it more often! You have a great sense of dry humor and you have good thoughts to share.

It's all about the instruction for me. I don't think hoyas will ever lose their allure and its good to see hoyas not available in regular plant nurseries. It's a great hobby. But I struggle with the challenge of getting an affordable cutting to survive and hopefully thrive. I appreciate all the help I can get. It's the delicate small ones that I fret over. Ginger tea such a good idea!

I do think most of the hoyas won't make it to the garden centers/ nurseries (unless it is a specialized Hoya nursery) a lot of species will of course, but there are simply way too many and perhaps demand is not that high :)

Hi Miro - thanks for sharing your thoughts. I really enjoy your videos, including your botanical ones - they’re informative, engaging and entertaining. I think people should be able to realize that things change all the time, especially in the Hoya world. I’m not up to date on all the name changes/controversies so I appreciate you filling that gap! I like plant videos very much. There are so many different plants out there now. When we moved a few years ago, I couldn't take all my plants, I only kept 7 of them. But now I am learning how to trim them, so they aren't all over grown on one side or the other, plus learning about propagation, on these plants. I haven't added more varieties, just enjoy working with my basic 7 plants. But trying the propagation is a lot of fun. I want to add another Hoya Compacta, or Indian Rope plant, mine is all green. I would like a variegated one sometime. I also have a Thanksgiving plant, and would like to add different colours, plus Easter cactus. But there are only so many plants I can have, as I just don't have the room. But the few I do have I enjoy learning more about, very much. I don't think Plants will ever go out of style, people find them, very relaxing. As far as prices, I cannot afford high prices, so seldom look at prices on other plants, because I don't want to buy them, even if I did have the money.

Thank you for this video. As for the community, I find I am actually finding its growing for me and quite positive in general. I do group imports etc... and feel I am a leader in my community here and I enjoy bringing people together. I love helping, teaching and love meeting more people from all over the world, I am a hoya seller in Canada and although the price to import is still high, I can no longer sell fore as much as i like. The cost of living has spiked... its hard to make a living, so I have also considered starting a KZfaq channel, although more for fun and to educate.

Hi Miro, I absolutely love watching any video you create! You are my #1 KZfaqr to watch! I especially liked watching you get lost walking and barely going into the forest. Also, walking around Serbia… And of course anything Hoya. I just really enjoy your personality, kindness, experiences, and sense of humor. I would watch any content you create, as I think it’s very entertaining and just a comfortable vibe. My grandmother started me on plants as a child. I also helped her water her orchid collection. I have no orchids, but around 200 Hoya (many I would not have tried to find if I hadn’t seen them first on your channel!) and about 100 other kinds of plants (that I’m not interested in and would love to sell or give away as I only want Hoya in my collection. I will always be fascinated with them.) I like your wishlist videos because usually it is the first time I realize these Hoya exist. Other people’s wishlist videos are usually ones I either have or already know exist. I’m in the USA and there aren’t too many Hoya around locally, so I buy most online. I usually see a plant you have and search a couple sellers that I like and they seem to keep up with offering ones I’ve seen you talk about. Anyway, I hope you feel better and I like the haircut! PS. My Serpens loves you for the video of chunky mix in self watering pot. And as a plus, it is now my easiest to keep up with!

And maybe the usual stuff has fallen out of fashion too a bit. But I for one can't afford to haul anything anymore 😢 I'm sure im not the only one. I collect Orchids and Hoya, hauled orchids just before winter and most have died of crown rot. I'm unsure why. But I am so so sad because they were expensive! So I think I won't buy anything for a long rime and focus on blooming and grow the orchids and hoya I already have... 😊

I would like to see videos about the plant hunt process! As well as wish lists I want to see 'hoyas I can't find' or 'latest hoya discoveries' - anything that will introduce me to new hoyas. I always love videos showing the evolution of different hoya. I'm not tired of plants at all. Also many of us live in places where plants are hard to obtain due to biosecurity eg I live in Tasmania and Hoya retusa would be a great find for me lol. Viewing hoya grown indoors and over a period of time is also super interesting to me.

From my own experience, I have had houseplants since I was about seven years old. (I am significantly older than that now.) The hobby has ebbed and flowed over the years, but I've always had at least some plants around. None of my friends have ever really been into them, though, so I never had anyone that I could talk to about the hobby. I feel that I have learned so much over the last year and a half or so from your videos and others that I watch. I will admit that I'm getting fatigued with the shopping videos. (What a surprise -- a jillion Golden Pothos. Who would have guessed??) But I still like the chore videos, the informative videos, and the wish list videos. I learn new things and feel a sense of community in something that has always been such a solitary pursuit for me. I'm sure a lot of people jumped on the planty bandwagon and then jumped back off -- because that's what folks like that do. But for those of us who are in it for the love of the hobby -- not the perceived trendiness of it -- I hope you will keep on keeping on. I am always happy to see when you have new content. I enjoy your sense of humor and your intellect and insights. Merry Christmas, Miro! I hope that 2024 is full of only good things for you.
