About a year ago, I fully switched my kit from Sony to Fuji. Mostly for a lot of the same reasons you talk about here. The Fuji cameras I tried out inspired me to want to shoot. I got the X100V first, for all of my EDC/personal camera needs. For my professional work camera, I went with the GFX100S. The big difference in the two helps keep that line between work and personal like you talked about. I am considering one of the new X-H2 bodies for something in the middle though. Haha

I have to disagree with the statement that because the retro dials were omitted, that the X-H2 feels like a traditional camera. The retro styling of the earlier Fuji's DO feel like a traditional camera. The X-H2 might feel like a modern camera, but not so much like a traditional camera.

Great work Manny, I really enjoyed that. You really nailed it here, combining useful technical information with some really artistic and atmospheric b-roll - it's really hard to deliver both effectively. Loved the POV shots too, may I ask what you used for that? Looked like an action cam looking down on the camera combined with something better quality filming the back of the camera maybe on a bracket? Either way, it looked really good. PS - I was in new York for the launch too, and heard you were there, but sadly didn't see you. Hope you're keeping well! I'm ploughing through my boring comparison shots for my review!

Great Review Manny. I was a Sony user since I am not a professional switched to Fuji and loving it. The autofocus bugs me on the XT4 because of the inconsistency but the retro dials make up for it. Got into the x-pro 3 a few months ago, for street, as I didn’t want the stress and cost of M series. Then came the lenses, mostly the f2s and I fell back in love with my street photography. For landscapes I wanted more resolution, so I picked up the X-H2, and some faster glass. For the first time in nearly forty years of professional photography I’ve serious,y thought about getting out of the brand of cameras and lenses I’ve used throughout my career.

I too have an Xpro3 which I love for its rangefinder style and beautiful vintage aesthetics. How do you find the XH2 compared to the Xpro3 overall in usability and ergonomics, iq output and high iso? Which one do you actually prefer using? Would you recommend the switch? I'm thinking of upgrading. I would love to get an X-Pro4 but I doubt it will come out soon or perhaps we will never see it sadly.
@johnwildgoose7735
@johnwildgoose7735 11 ай бұрын
@@MarcoMarfia the XH2 is by far and away the most practical camera for assignments, especially with the larger file. I have learned to use it the same way as the X-Pro3 in terms of ‘no chimping’ and that’s partly because the focussing hit rate is very high. The X-Pro3 is much more of an ‘artist’s’ camera, the X-H2 is much more of a working camera. My assignments tend to be of an editorial style, so I need a camera that can easily keep up with my reactions.

Looking for them to add the ability to add ISO to one of the command dials like the previous cameras via firmware update. Being limited to Aperture and SS doesn’t make much since, given that all native lenses (as far as I know of) have aperture rings. That level of customization really set us apart from other companies. But with this, it makes me feel like we’re heading towards an overly digital set up that takes away from some of what made Fuji so special and different. It’s like they tried to please sony users with this, which isn’t necessary. I think the ISO button is a great addition, as long as our options aren’t taken away. That flexibility with the dials is more suitable for fast paced shooting in my opinion. My set up was Right Index on Front Dial (SS), Thumb on Back Dial (ISO), Left Hand under lens for Aperture - it was so intuitive and fluid as opposed to having to press a button and change the ISO on screen.

I keep telling myself I'm done buying Fuji cameras. For one thing, the x-trans that drives me nuts in Lightroom...and next, I didn't need or want a shutter speed dial or exposure comp dial (OK if there's one, but I'd rather have the top screen). So now...here they come with a 40 MP sensor with IBIS and in a great DSLR style body I like to use. Dang it. Have one on order now. A few other things I like...the grip, the upgraded EVF, dual card slots that are just like my Z7 II (CFexpress + SD), the option to change aperture via the command dial instead of the lens aperture ring (never liked using the ring). Well, I assume since there's no SS dial and we have a traditional DSLR style setup that you can assign the aperture changes to the front or rear dial (think I saw that in the XH2s owner manual). I think this will be a nice pair/second camera to my Z7 II. I've always enjoyed the Fuji experience overall, even with the dials I didn't need, but this body should really tick all the boxes for me.

@@shadowmaster41 yes, picking a camera is a tough and fun process 😃 I would advise you to prioritize your needs/wishes and work from there. Do you: - Travel a lot? (weight) - Work a lot with fast moving subjects? (af) - Like a shallow depth of field and dreamy pictures (lenses) - Want to enjoy taking pictures. Not only the end result but enjoying the proces.(Haptics, buttons, in camera profiles). - Photograph a lot at night? For example: How important is weight? An XT 5 is light but equally importantly so are the lenses (Small sensor = small lenses). The 70-300 is a great travel tele lens for documentary (Maybe not for sport ;) I have some full frame 2.8 tele lenses. Most of the time @ home because they are too heavy to carry around all dat 😅 The XT 5 haptics are great and gives you the feeling that you are more involved in the making proces. Sony has blazing AF but to me feels a bit computer like. Less fun to hold and operate. If your susceptible for such things 😁 Nikon leans a bit towards Sony although I like the ergonomics of Nikon better (better "camera in your hand" feeling). I can go on for a while, but you get my drift. You often hear: "There is no perfect camera". I would disagree with that. There are so many cameras that there is one for everybody. The perfect camera is the one that fits your needs. 👍🏼✨

I once had the Nikon D800 and I loved the latitude those images had, literally could recover any image no matter what I did wrong, unfortunately it was just too bulky and heavy. So I went the complete opposite and got a gh4, did not enjoy the photos coming out of that camera and could only do very little with them. Went with Fuji and I've been really happy, it is the best of both worlds but still I miss the images coming out of the nikon, maybe this camera will give me that.

Hey Manny! I love this video! I have the Fujifilm xt3 and have been looking to upgrade my camera. I’ve been shooting Fuji ever since the x100 which got me into shooting. But am noticing a real difference in image look and feel compared to cameras like Sony. I’ve been really intrigued by the A7IV but also the XH2S. How would you describe the image quality of the two platforms? I get why you use Fuji for daily life. I feel it has a filmic look and nostalgia to the pics. Moment captured feel “real”. Whereas Sony and Canon pics I see have an extremely sharp “commercial” look to them. (Not sure if I’m describing it right) but I’m a creative doing the occasional photography and video work so considered switching systems. It’s not my main line of work but I’m a big photography fan. Would appreciate your thoughts on this! 🙏🏼🙏🏼

I agree that the images are better than any XTrans 4 Fuji camera but are they worth the upgrade ? I don't think so. The move from the XTrans 3 to the 4 was huge but the one from the XTrans 4 to the 5 is very small by comparison and not worth a change.

Really insightful thoughts about shooting professionally with a camera system, curious if you're going to end up shooting professionally with the XH2 and how you will feel after doing it for a few months. Happy to hear you've been able to keep the enjoyment of fuji's system despite shooting professionally, I've heard from some people that they lose interest in taking a camera with them just for fun, but maybe your point about having separate systems is the way to avoid that issue. I totally relate to taking the x100v everywhere, I also travel with a small kit of lenses with my X-T4 (16 1.4, 33mm, 90 F2) and love the simplicity of it. Considering getting a more 'professional' camera like the XH2 or maybe a GFX series (or regular full frame canon/sony/nikon) to use for gigs and be able to trust its low light performance and have the added resolution. Curious if anyone in the comments has done pro work with their 'fun' fuji cameras and lose the special allure/feel more like a tool.

I’m not a full time photographer. I needed to shoot real estate for work. Started out with a Nikon but needed more DR so upgraded. It happened to be a fuji xt2. Since I shoot with my xt2 I’ve fallen in love with photography. Besides the real estate, I started taking my xt2 on personal occasions too. Added some lenses. Brought him to the middle of nowhere in Mongolia, the freezing nights in Sweden, the blistering hot desserts of Namibia. Shot products for my friends business and some fun shoots with my girl. Then I added a wedding. A sports event. Another wedding. Journalism. All the while still shooting real eatate for work. I’m now considering very seriously to switch profession to photography or at least do photography part time. My xt2 is my ‘buddy’. Whether it is for a boring shoot of property or while taking pics of fighter jets shooting with live ammunition; he’s right there with me, documenting what I see. Making intangible memories tangible. So I’ve gone to a certain degree from ‘professional’ use to personal use, and most certainly still love my xt2 to bits. Its perhaps a bit far fetched, but I think you could compare it to a police officer and his dog. At work, the dog is a tool. But that doesn’t make him less of a buddy at home. That being said, going for a walk at home is less special perhaps cause they’ve seen each other all day already. The more I think of it, the less I know the answer 😂 Honestly, I think it boils down to the fuji system being engaging to work with as opposed to clinical like a sony or phone. And if you’re engaging with your gear while making great memories with your family, you’ll feel more connected with the pictures you create.

The guts of the XH2 bodies are amazing. The ergos; mushy thumb stick, lack up tactile inputs, front and back dials don’t push in, S/C/M toggle is a button now, HDR/S/M/CL/CH is gone too. I love me some Fuji but this camera was definitely not made for me. In my opinion, the XH2 isn’t designed for “professionals” , it’s designed for users that are moving from systems with a similar UI/ergos BUT adding the unexplainable Fuji flare. I think Fuji had to make a decision; capture THIS market and risk pissing off a few long time customers or keep us customers happy. From a business standpoint, they did the right thing. If they strip away things that made the XT/X Pro/X 100 series special, they’ll have potentially soured the customers that gush about how amazing Fuji is. Or, that customer *may move to a GFX system BUT as you stated, this design is in the. GFX 50s II and 100s bodies. The XS10 has this language too and I avoided that camera. Solid 48 breakdown man. I think you nailed it in saying the images come out looking like memories. And they aren’t always perfect and that’s what makes them special.

My X-T4 is unfortunately defective, I had it sent away under warranty for a sensor remap. The on board software just couldn't do it, so now after having it away for a month and coming back it was fine for about 10 minutes but is back again with the same problem but in different places on the sensor. As of now after just having my X-T4 for just 2 months i'm looking at the X-H2 since i'm mainly wanting video performance and the X-H2 seems to offer that for me and the upcoming X-T5 not having a battery grip and an articulated screen put me off it, I love the articulating screen and need the battery grip for extended video recording. I love the X-T4's layout it's one of the best i've used and totally trashes my Pansconic's I've had its just so fluid and easy. With the X-H2 I will be sad not having the controls but under the skin beyond the dials on top it's just a better X-T4, I'll miss the short but sweet time I've had with the X-T4.

compared to the R5 and RF 85mm f1.2, how many shots would you expect the x-h2 with the new 56mm lens to be in focus. I don't like the colours of the r5 and the fact that it is so big and heavy with the rf 85, I want to move to the x-h2 but my couples portrait work has to be on point.

@SethiPhotography The fuji is going to be closer to a 1.8 than a 1.2 because of the sensor. You will have the 85mm equivalent field of view, however with the 56mm compression. Personally, you can get by easily with both cameras. Though, if it were up to me... I'd keep your current setup all day. Not to mention my experience with Fuji support sucked, others may have great luck with that though.

Hey Manny, I’m new-ish to photography and have been between Fujifilm and Sony for the most part, but as I’m not planning on professionally shooting, I’m now leaning toward Fujifilm. This video honestly played a huge part in that. A lot of what I plan to capture is family and daily experiences while wanting to push that envelope to become a great photographer. I’ve read that a lot of people recommend the XT range for people newer to photography purely because of the dials and tactile nature (I will say I am tactile with how I learn) however, I do plan to use the camera for video 25-50% of the time. I’m kind of between the XT line and XH line but am having a hard time deciding. I know they’re both awesome obviously. Any recommendations between these two?

Great video Manny! I totally get what you’re saying. I’ve shot Canon the majority of my photography pro-life, but I’ve felt for some time it was time to make a change. Canon as great as their RF glass is, has out-priced my wallet! They’ve been slow moving & not flexible concerning their mirrorless lineup. First I purchased the R, then the R6 & almost brought the R7! But the lenses are laughable! Reminds me of the M50 & how they never introduced any high end(low light) glass. All the while I continue to watch the support given to Sony & now Nikon from 3rd party companies! I added a Fuji XT3 to my bag & photography became fun again. I’ve since added Fuji & some 3rd party glass. I decided to sell my Canon gear. Now I’m trying to decide what will be it’s replacement! I’m thinking long & hard how I’ll spend my money. Good thing there’s a lot of great gear out here! Brand loyalty is a thing of the past, now I chose who better suits my needs!
