The U.S. government ordered 120,000 people of Japanese descent imprisoned during World War II. An admission of wrongdoing and reparations payments came later, but the SCOTUS ruling had lasting impact. Educators, check out our Supreme Court collection: bit.ly/RR-SCOTUS

This also happened in Canada. Family's possessions and property were confiscated and families were sent into Interior BC and Alberta.

Ironic how ethnic Japanese were interned but not Germans. It was just racist policy.

They did interned Germans and Italian Americans during WWII but as another poster had stated, they cannot do it not only because of the scale, but also there were many German-Americans who obviously see themselves as Americans like Dwight Eisenhower.

They never over turned those case so technically they are still constitutional. Thats our history and a huge flaw of the Supreme Court. It takes another case in a similar nature to over turn it.

Japanese, German and Italian Americans were interned. The German-Americans just weren't interned in as large of numbers as the Japanese. The German-American population in many parts of the mid west was simply too large. And many had married with other white ethnic groups. They had political and financial power. And many chose to show their patriotism with public displays, buying war bonds and enlisting to fight in the war.

I took Constitutional Law @ William & Mary Law in 1998 and my professor said that he believed that the court of that time would rule in favor of the govt if a similar action were to take place. I felt crushed & excluded.
