Burial vaults are required by many cemeteries across the central United States, where my company is based out of. The seal on the burial vault is a beauty al adhesive seal that lies in the groove of the lid that is installed before the manufacturing process. It is pressed into the liner, and then the vault is poured. The seal activates when the base is raised into the lid of the vault, dispersing the seal around the tongue of the base. When burial vaults are properly installed and manufactured, they are air and water tight. I've personally been involved in disinterments that date back from being buried in the nineteen sixties, and i've opened these vaults to reveal a dry intact casket.
The virality of preinstalled burial vaults has tarnished a reputation of burial themselves. Preinstalled burial vaults are not installed with the seal, When the lid is removed, water and debris are in the bottom of the vault.
