Absolutely Shameful act.. these people don't realize that Kannadigas are working outside Karnataka. Being a kannadiga in Mumbai nobody forced me to learn Marathi. Hindi and English is more than enough. Thoug I intend to learn Marathi.. learning spoken Marathi is tough if you are working in corporate setup, where you work for 10+hrs, skill upgrade for another 3hrs, commute 2hrs. Relaized one more thing, there multiple accents dialects within a language so for a North Indian guy to learn any South Indian language will be wuite difficult unless introduced into spoken language class( similar to Foreign Language classes you take)

you have made a good point. please communicate this point by making a post and sharing it in your family group that are natives of Karnataka and request each one to share it in every group they are participants of. This movement has to start somewhere to educate people to not spread hate on the basis of language or else the natives of the entire country will be restricted to only their state of birth

This issue will never end. It's time to give such idiot Kannadigas a taste of their own medicine! Friends please, whenever you see dark people/South Indians, go and talk with them. If they say they are from Karnataka, ask them what they do. Ask in English. If they are educated folk like engineers, doctors etc. wish them well and leave them be. If they are unable to communicate in English/communicate in broken Hindi or English, congrats you have found your target. If they say they work blue collar like taxi/auto/bus drivers or any other kind of non-multinational, non-officer posts, congrats you have found your target. Speak with them not in Hindi or English but in the most local accent of your mother tongue. When they are unable to respond, abuse them with the choicest of Hindi and English words that they are able to understand and tell them that they must communicate in your native language or leave immediately. Do this for 5 minutes and if anybody asks, lie to them that they misbehaved with you in the first place! It's the only way.

So that means when Kannada speaking people go abroad for holidays, they must be taking French, Spanish, Italian, German, etc etc lessons years ahead right😂😂Because according to their logic you can speak ONLY the local language. Edit: some people are saying that if we live in a particular place for long term work or anything, we have to learn the language of that place. See, it's good to learn something new but it's not mandatory. I am living in Assam for more than 5 years now. Here, I communicate with everyone in Hindi. No one has ever been offended by me speaking hindi. Back in my homeplace, we speak hindi, english and our own local language and dialects. We have never had problems with adopting hindi and english. We don't feel threatened that our local language will be lost. Areeeh if you love your local language, you speak, you embrace it. That's why I chose to live in Mumbai instead of Bangalore. No city is such accepting, loving, caring and kind as Mumbai. No wonder its called city of dreams. Being from Rajasthan I never felt as if I am called out as being North Indian. Maharashtriyan people are always loving and will help as much as possible and I have lived in Delhi as well. But Mumbai has a great vibe. People always talk without any language barrier. They can mix English, Hindi, Marathi all in one statement but never discriminate you if you don't know any one of them. It always help to know local language surely, but getting humiliated and discriminated on basis of language. Karnataka people can think they are being cool by doing this, but in the end they are the ones who draw lines in people's mind and heart about being North Indian and South Indian. Infact if that's the case, the state should keep everything isolated, from their own Electricity Grid, their own peering with internet service providers, water supply system and so on.

Being a kannadiga, I have had many such instances. Whenever i travel by an auto with a friend of mine who can't speak kannada, the auto driver gives us a stare from the rare view mirror when he hears us talking in english. I mean , it's none of his business to eavesdrop on us. Last week i travelled by uber premier and the same thing happened with me, the driver did not turn on the AC stating reason that he had just got the car serviced and was not supposed to turn on the AC on for a few weeks. Then what's the point of booking an uber premier and paying more than an uber go. I reached out to uber regarding this , and they did not take any actions, nor did i get a refund.

@@utsavsrivastava6669 Many non- Hindi speaking people have learned Hindi. How many people from the Hindi speaking states have learned Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Assamese, Odia, Gujarati, Marathi or Punjabi ? Who is destroying the sovereignty and secularity of our beloved and respected nation ? Who is ruining the harmony amongst the different linguistic groups ? Who are the ones to blame ? The answer is clear. I respect Hindi, Kannada and all other Indian languages equally. Hindi speaking people expect the non- Hindi speaking ones to learn Hindi. Ninety nine percent of them never learn a single language from the diverse list that encompasses Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Assamese, Odia, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi and the North Eastern languages. They are the ones who are creating a rift between Hindi and non Hindi speaking people. There are a few exceptions though - Hindi speaking people who have learned at least one of these non- Hindi Indian languages. I thoroughly respect their efforts - hats off to them. But they make up a miniscule percentage. Its absolutely okay if someone comes to Karnataka, stays there and doesn't learn Kannada. Its equally okay if a non-Hindi person comes to à Hindi speaking state, stays there and doesn't learn Hindi. I again condemn the eye-sore tone and throw of the driver's words. He could have respectfully said that he doesn't know Hindi. The esteemed passenger deserved a polite and nice behaviour. Speak with them not in Hindi or English but in the most local accent of your mother tongue. When they are unable to respond, abuse them with the choicest of Hindi and English words that they are able to understand and tell them that they must communicate in your native language or leave immediately. Im a kannadiga, my grandfather's grandfather is from Bangalore. I'm not fluent in kannada language but when i encounter such people i rigidly tell them its my wish not to communicate in kannada. If you come across such people tell them rigidly you dont give a damn about it and contact police immediately since the cops here in Bangalore are really helpful. Edit:- few people think since I don't speak kannada I've no right to be called a kannadiga, I'd like to clear the fact the people are identified as to where they're born and brought up, I've studied in an icsc school where my third language was kannada and in my school everyone used to communicate in either English or hindi and our mother tongue was urdu and all my friends used to communicate in English. Every language is just a means to communicate but people here in Karnataka are taking pride in their language i don't know for what reason. Also the only people who force you to speak in kannada are the rickshaw wala and cabies. Most of the people in Bangalore aren't offended by it. These guys don't even know that Bangalore was developed by IT sectors in which most of them who are working are north Indians, and no one understands that we are from the same country! The cultures might be different but that's exactly what makes our country beautiful! North Indians, South Indians, Hindus, muslims, are just topics that brainwashed people are using to create fuss in a community that lives in harmony. Btw they don't turn on the AC even for locals 😂

The Indian Constitution does not mandate any state to enforce the exclusive use of its regional language. Instead, it promotes the use of languages for communication while respecting linguistic diversity. Karnataka is indeed a part of India, and thus, it is bound by the principles enshrined in the Constitution, which includes respecting the linguistic preferences of individuals from different regions. Secondly when driver said AC isn’t working, the passenger was digging in to find out why it’s not working, it’s none of his business, and anyone could get irritated by such behaviour. Lastly, the issue on language, both failed to understand each other but they understood the conversation. The cab driver was rude , but the passenger instigated it with his entitlement attitude

Ban all people who don’t speak kannada. Ask them to leave the city. Then, 80% of the taxes that Bangalore is making will vanish. 😊 At the moment Because they are happily earning from the economic boom and they are not being checked by police or politicians for making such remarks , they are encouraged to show they have control over the city. Unfortunate to see this. Bangalore is perhaps the most cosmopolitan city in India and there is a reason for that. And being a cosmo is the reason for its enormous growth. Today, educated people seem to be less knowledgeable. If you are able to speak Hindi or English, then do so, but don't force someone to speak Kannada. If an individual lives in a place where English or Hindi is not understood by anyone at work or for living, then it is necessary for them to learn Kannada. Is Bangalore such a place? Honestly, it's a shame when people push for only one language and act discriminatory. We should be embracing our diversity, not letting it divide us. If you're staying in a city for more than a year and do not understand the language of the place, you should learn it or leave it. That's a fair argument. But, if you are just there for a visit and you're being harrassed, you have all the rights to question them. I'm a Kannadiga staying in Maharashtra for more than 7 years now and I've learnt the language, the nuances, the cultural colloquials... everything... Though my fluency is not at an expert level, I can very well understand, respond and have a decent conversation in their preferred language and accent. Knowing a city's culture should be a thing of passion and pride. We are not outsiders to one another if we learn to embrace each other's differences. We ourselves create that rift for political benefits and this should end. Start learning each other's languages for starters.
@shenanigans4177

That's a pure bullshit argument. Nobody needs to learn the regional language of any metropolitan city. Most people migrate to big cities for work, not for enjoying culture. As far as local nuances are concerned, common sense and civility will get you through. I'm okay if someone takes advantage and overcharges me because of the language barrier, like how BMTC doesn't return change sometimes or autowalas overcharging non-natives. These are minor inconveniences I'll accept rather than going over the hassle of learning a new language.
@Infinityvj
@Infinityvj 23 күн бұрын
@@shenanigans4177 Agreed. That's why I said that it helps better if you understand the language and its people and the way they are. And FYI, it is a language of the state and not just the metropolitan city. In fact, Bengaluru has lesser people speaking their own language of the state because of these very people who migrate from different states. It all depends on your own willingness to be a part of that place. If you're just there to make a living, survive and get out, atleast we need to know the basics. Enjoying the culture is an add-on to make those nuances lesser or easier. Also, agree to your point that there are also people who baselessly and mindlessly argue over trivial matters and they should be questioned for it, but it would also be wrong to misjudge their discomfort over speaking a language they don't know and assuming it to be arrogance. Yes, some are blatantly arrogant. But some have sheer pride in speaking their language, which is not seen in the same way as other kannadigas. Anyway, the point being, let's try to know one another better.

Be a roman in Rome. Learn n respect local lang always. Like Kannadigas speak the local lang wherever they go. Kannadigas most tolerant of all races!!

An advice I would give to any my close friends is never argue with taxi driver when you are sitting in his car, wait till he drops you and then make a point. Remember he is in a position of authority while driving ( specifically girls be aware)

This is psychological issue with Kanndigas. They think that the outsiders in the city are exploiting the states resources and should be handled without compassion. They don't understand that most people in Bangalore are for jobs offered by IT companies who care about work and eligible candidates.

@chizuanchan2557 Who are you to decide that? Do you own Karnataka? The security forces saving the borders of the country, including Karnataka, are not from Karnataka alone. They are from the whole of India. First, take the responsibility of all of India and its borders, then come and talk here.

Despite the complete unfamiliarity I have with the language, Bengali, I found Kolkata more welcoming than the entire state of Karnataka. I have lived in KA (Mangaluru) for more than 3 years & last year, I visited Kolkata for the very first time. Everybody I met there, tried their best to help me & my friends out whenever we got lost either literally on the streets or even while conversing.

The Airport incident seems logical to me to some extent. If his family is kannadiga and living in Karnataka then he must know Kannada. I know a family from M.P who has been living in Andhra Pradesh for 12 years and their 7 year olds speak Hindi. If that guy was kannadiga and has been living in Karnataka and don't know Kannada that is suspicious. In most of the cases it can be a fake passport too. BTW our PM is from Gujarat and he knows Gujarati

Yes. North people are very arrogant and showoff. That's the reason people from the south hates Northies.
