Tyson Chandler was NEVER A BUST!! How do you call a player that was having multiple 18+ rebound games in his 2nd year a bust?? YOUR TITLE IS CRAZY AND MISLEADING!! He was a "baby bull" and matured to a valuable player and unlike some of these 2nd year players we are seeing today, if was obvious he wasn't a bust in his 2nd year once he started getting real minutes... He was young, light in the backside but 7ft. He played PF when he came in the league from high school and grew into the center position after he gain "grown man strength" and more craftiness.

He was absolutely essential to the 2011 Mavs championship. He was so dominant defensively that Dirk's deficiencies in that area didn't matter. He held down the middle while Kidd, Stephenson, Marion, and Butler did work on the perimeter

Tyson Chandler was absolutely essential later in his career when he helped the 2010-2011 Dallas Mavs win that championship against Miami, absolutely dominant on the defensive end and he really did help a ton towards that team in a big way

It wasn’t Howard we was after it was deandre Jordan. He agreed to sign with us verbally but then he backed out when doc rivers and Chris Paul got him to resign with the clips. We went for Dwight when we got chandler.

Tyson Chandler has always been one of my favorite centers in the game. How he anchored the paint and brought tough defense to every team he played for was amazing. Everyone talks about Dirk, Jason Terry, and all the players on the Mavericks 2011 run but Chandler was where they really shined.

Ben Wallace effect. It started with him reviving the center position. More defensive-minded guys who can run the floor and defend and be rim protectors. He let it be known that you don't have to score to be effective. Good video, and point as well, but Ben Wallace should be given the credit for redefining the role of centers.

@@TheStefanp10 Please explain the small ball phenomenal that has taken place in the league as of late where you'd have guys 6'7"-6'9" playing the center position. And if you ask me, position should be based on how you play and not size in which I know size really play a huge part in positions. Look at some Jokic, he's a 7 footer and play like a point guard but he's a center. But all of that is the position-less ball that I like. Regardless of his size, Ben Wallace played center and he was defensively gifted and redirected the role of centers regardless of what you say.

It's good to see Tyson Chandler slowly revived his career from New Orleans then becoming a major key in Dallas' title run in 2011 and become the Defensive Player of the Year in 2012 and an All-Star in 2013 with the Knicks. Mark Cuban made a mistake letting him go twice.

We must give the dude some credit. To come straight from high school into the NBA and then expected to perform at a high level WITHOUT any good veterans to help guide him. Game changer. He literally makes the other team play offense differently. Pick and roll as well as offensive rebounding are the only skills a center needs if they are good at defense.

I love Tyson. When the Bulls practice facility was still in Berto Center, I saw him in the nearby DMV and damn was he tall and started to like him though I began to love another team (Nets and Mavs) even more. He wasn’t as good then, but glad his career went up, won a championship and also won DPOY.

I'm from Chicago and as usual the BULLS were being cheap, Elton Brand was a solid player but when it came time for him to get a new contract rather than pay him the BULLS traded him.

And Chandler was absolutely heartbroken when he got traded on draft night because dude grew up in Compton and thought he got to play for the local Clippers. Instead he got traded to windy Chicago and it was a tough adjustment for the 18 years old straight outta high school both in terms of friends and weather. Chandler himself said he was lonely and played a lot of video games his rookie year. He also credited Charles Oakley of saving his career. If I remember correctly, Oakley invited him over for Thanksgiving his rookie year.

As a Mavs fan who watched the 2011 NBA finals, Chandler was one of my favourite players on the floor. Dirk handled the scoring and Chandler did the dirty work: Rim protection, rebounding, setting screens and catching lobs.

The only problem with Tyson Chandler's role in the 2011 run, came in the 1st round against the Trailblazers, where Lamarcus Aldridge was always scoring over him. He was virtually unguardable until Rick Carlisle took Chandler out, replacing him with Brendan Haywood, then things really turned around for the Mavs.

It's amazing what Chandler accomplised when he did't have the pressure of being "the guy". When he went to New Orleans and Dallas he was able to maximize his strengths and minimize his weaknesses when he was surrounded by stars.

As a Mavs lifelong fan for 26 years (I’m 29 and started watching when I was 3), I look at the 2011 championship and what happened after differently than most. Chandler was the defensive MVP and was incredible for the Mavs, but at the time Howard was on a different level. When the Mavs played the Magic, Howard would beat Chandler around and Cuban must’ve been thinking, “If we can win with Chandler, imagine the improvement with 3 time DPOY Howard.” Now going for Deron Williams was in hindsight a bad idea, but in the moment we wanted him to come home to the Mavs. Imagine that roster: Deron Williams, Dwight Howard, Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Terry, Jason Kidd, Shawn Marion, and Deshawn Stevenson, then add pieces around to make a full rotation. At the time this seemed like a near god squad to go up against the Heat and Spurs.

When we got rid of Erick Dampier for Chandler, I thought we Mavs fans were in for more disappointment. He was a bust. Then the season started. The current rookie Derrick Lively reminds me SO MUCH of Tyson Chandler, circa 2011. When Tyson got here, it's like his light flipped on. The kid Lively seemed to flip that similar switch. Thank you, Tyson Chandler.

i think his career blossomed when he went to new orleans with david west, peja stojakovic, and chris paul.. they were solid that time and his focus was on defense where his strength was. and the biggest bust that year was the guy picked before him... kwame brown.

Nba ESPN 2k5 they had him listed as a SF lmao I was so confused but loved that a 7 feet was a SF.. that’s probably why I became a fan of KD as soon as I seen him

If guys like Steven Adams and Clint Capella are playing in the NBA and got big money contracts, it is partly because of Tyson Chandler. When you look at the three of them, they have similar skillsets. In today's NBA, when you play the center position, eitheir you have to shoot 3s or be a great defender while being able to switch on the perimeter. Chandler was one of the first Centers who could hold his own against guards

No disrespect to Ben Wallace he was a great defensive player and vital to the pistons winning in the early 2000s. If you had put him in the early 90s though his impact would have been much diminished. He’s not half the player Robinson, Hakeem, mourning, Ewing, or Shaq was, but if you got Dikembe in the HOF there is definitely a place for Wallace too. I’m from Philly and thought mutumbo hurt us more than helped us. We needed him in 2001 cause Theo Ratliff went down with an injury, but he really wasn’t suited to the team we had. Theo Ratliff was having his best season and I think we would have gotten 60+ wins that year if he didn’t go down
