So whether you're travelling for business or leisure, make sure to check out Sydney Ferries and find out for yourself!

Hi there, thanks so much for coming to Luna Park! I work there as a HTM, and I’ve also just started in an Access and Inclusion committee in the park. Luna Park is one my most favourite place to go in Sydney! Everyone’s so kind, warm and friendly at the park, and I’m glad you enjoyed it too! Sydney Ferries on the other hand. Although I love the ferries, there’s still huge issues with accessibility that need to be resolved, especially around Watsons Bay. My sister is non verbal and she uses a wheelchair, and we’re both on the Autism Spectrum. I went with her on a ferry trip over to Watsons Bay so we could go pass Garden Island because my Granddad had a memorial there that we couldn’t go to, but we still wanted to be there. The moment that we arrived to Circular Quay, we were immediately refused onto the ferry because they said that Watsons Bay was inaccessible. Even though it’s one of the most popular wharfs on the network! All because of a few steps! They gave us no alternatives to get there, like the 324/325 bus, take the ferry to Rose Bay, or stay on the ferry until it got back to Circular Quay. We were threatened with the police when we left and my Dad almost had a heart attack! He had open heart surgery after that incident and it’s still the same as it was 5 years ago when this happened. Sydney Ferries never apologised for this, even though the Premier recently apologised for both this, and many other experiences I’ve been through on the Public Transport network. Don’t even get me started with Sydney Trains! Anyways, hope you have a great day!

I think my favorite moment was when you were wheeling along hand-in-hand with Daisy - it makes such a positive statement, just like it does when you do it with Shaun, and I love it. I was greatly amused by your reaction to what we in the States call a "corn dog". As an ambulatory wheelchair user, if I was ever there, I would probably force myself to find the strength to climb the steps for the slide thing at the very least, because I haven't done one of those since I was little, like 4 y/o (would have to take plenty of breaks going up - stairs, more than anything else except swing dancing, take it out of me, even though I can technically run up a flight of them if it's short enough (thank you, adrenaline) - but I would still do it).

I saw your red knees! but it looked like a lot of fun but yes very busy. I'm not sure how I feel about the beach wheelchairs either, I think its because they're so big and bulky and both of our manual chairs are so sleek and minimal and feel an extension of our bodies and these most definitely would not! If I ever get the chance to use one we will see if I use it! Great video as ever though xxx

in london there is simllar ramps for Ferries - but you said you never been on ferries for 10 years so ferries in london is while simllar to sydney ferries - however there is differences - the ferries in london are single deck - i think there is toliets aboard but unknown if accessible as we didnt use them but one thing is ticket system for ferries - in london you might find vaildators in all piers also ticket offices to sell tickets as well also steep ramps to piers and wheelchair spaces located usually near front - first rows for luna theme park - i believe melboure one has some more accessibility rides also you havent tried Sydney Metro - that one is exellent one for your next time visit the luna park accessible guide is very easy to understand and easy to read - maybe you could talk about how good accessible guides around UK from theme parks and other countries

I had a big issue with my wheelchair being unable to fit on the ferry walkway on the way to Rottnest Island - too narrow - and they wouldn't/couldn't take my mobility scooter onto the ferry in general. To my great frustration (and lucky I have SOME ability to walk) they asked me to limp on board. Then on the island I had to hire a mobility scooter. Overall...not great for mobility :/

Is there such a thing as a wheelchair accessible slide? I'm thinking either one that's less steep and has something to slow you down at the bottom or one where you clip into it like a mini personal rollercoaster that only goes down one hill. Then, the bit you clip into could have auto-brakes fitted and some way of getting it back to the top again. It would be a little more complex and higher maintenance than a regular slide, but not completely unreasonable.
@lupeyloops246
@lupeyloops246 Жыл бұрын
I don't know about wheelchair accessible slides but my Australian neighbourhood has an 'inclusive playground' with wheelchair accessible swings so kids who use wheelchairs can enjoy the swing just like all the other kids. I do believe that one needs an MLAK key to be able to access the swing. Other features are sensory play setups and wheelchair accessible paths and ramps at different levels with access to platforms of climbing equipment.

@osayukithedoubleamputee Жыл бұрын
@@melissaz6778 that's terrible. Many disabled people need two grab rails in the toilet so Australia is backwards in terms of accessibility. Disabled toilets in England have two grab rails. Also I've been on holiday to France and Spain, and there were two grab rails in the disabled toilets there.

I’ll never be convinced that accessible public transport to and from all locations an by all public transport options is practical. There are just somethings the disabled are just not ment to do. There is a limit to the cost( and that cost is huge) to the public so that a very small minority can think their just like anybody else. The unpalatable thing to many is they are just not.
