The coronavirus has devastated the airline industry. U.S. air travel has dropped 95% compared to last year and the number of flights scheduled globally is down by 63%. More than 16,000 of the world’s commercial aircraft are grounded. These planes can’t just sit idle, they need routine maintenance and a place to be stored. And when you suddenly have thousands of planes with nowhere to go it becomes a logistical nightmare. Here’s a look at how airlines parks thousands of planes and the outlook for the grounded fleet.

What do you know about business and investments? If you have much more spare cash than you need to operate the business and you have no investment opportunities that outperform share buyback in terms of returns for shareholders, you should return cash back to shareholders through either dividend or share buyback instead of storing it under the mattress. Nobody was expecting a global pandemic that would lead to global lockdown, so it's low to blame airlines for not being prepared.

Time-lapse photography or sped-up video of them angle-parking a runway full of planes.... That's what I came here for. Oh well. Still, some interesting info anyway. Worth a like.

I'd take a fuselage and convert it into a cool apartment loft. "Let's see, which restroom will I use?" Whoever wants the wings and engines, they're yours.

I have been reading about this from several reports and publications. The way companies are going to be affected and the changes “they’ll have to make” to stay afloat is ridiculous. Bummer as I was hoping to do some traveling aboard this year.

20k planes flying together?! Wow the amount of damage we’ve managed to do to this earth. Being grounded.. I think that’s some good news.

They crowded people in because people buy the cheapest ticket and the way to make the ticket cheaper is to increase the number of seats in a plane, and those you reduce the pitch
