@@dayforit1750 its not all about age. Aldo defended his belt since he was 22-28 against only elite competition then going into the volkanovski fight he was 2-2 since losing his championship. Obviously the amount of fights he had and getting knocked out in seconds after going unbeaten for a decade then going on to lose half your fights after word is gonna change you physically and mentally

Not saying I disagree about how great Volk is, but acting like him dominating Yair was unexpected or surprising is pretty disingenuous. Volk was a terrible matchup for Yair, and the blueprint to beat him was laid out years ago by Frankie Edgar and hasn't changed. Volk followed it precisely for the first two rounds before putting him away in the 3rd, which wasn't surprising since his striking is also great, and Yair is remarkably less dangerous when the threat of all his crazy spinning and jumping strikes gets taken away due to the threat of being taken down. If he can do the same thing to Topuria, that will be much, much more impressive.

By the same token though Volk wasn't yet in his prime when he fought Aldo. Compare the version who fought Aldo and Holloway the first two times to the man he is today.

I think its abit unfair to say Aldo was clearly past his prime, cause it kinda makes it seem like he was bad. He was still only 30 and beating top ten guys rather consistently when he fought Volk.

Aldo only got better. When he retired, he was the best he'd ever been. The meta changed, and he became more "beatable" as it did.

agree. and so does Aljamain Sterling. Aljo is good, and he's big. but he never fought someone like Volkanovski. I can easily make money on that one when that fight happens, I swear to God.

I don't agree with that at all. Aldo beating prime Frankie Edgar alone renders any conversation about strength of schedule pretty much moot. Add in the wins over prime Brown, Faber, and Mendes, and he ran through *_the_* who's who at FW at the time. Consider the level of competition Volk has faced, and you'll see that, aside from Max, who beat him when he was quite past his prime, his title defenses have been against Ortega, who a prime Aldo would almost assuredly finish, KZ, who Aldo *_did_* finish back in his prime, and Yair, who Aldo would also beat with ease. I also have to laugh when you say Max beats almost everyone Aldo fought with ease, because in every instance where they have a common opponent (who didn't beat them, as Conor and Volk did), Aldo fought and beat them when they were younger and decidedly more dangerous, with the lone exception of Jeremy Stephens, who I don't think you'll disagree Aldo also would've easily beaten in his prime.
