I would argue that picking up the cores should be based on your soil type. If you have clay soil, 100% pick them up.

Interesting to hear your position on aerating and breaking pre-emergent barrier. I agree, I think its not that big a deal either.

Thanks for this. I got exhausted trying to weed and feed my lawn so I pay a company to come out every month. I'm just too busy. However, I asked them about my moss problem and they won't treat it. They said my soil is too compact and holds moisture so they recommend aerating it. I never heard of that before.

Aaah billy goat.. great machine.. used more and more over here in the Uk. Can't fault them for commercial use, and more and more on domestic lawns. Great tips as usual!

I use my rover lawnmower to essentially clean up core after core aerating my green and makes life much easier. Try it out next time

Hey doc thanks for the informative videos. What do you think of soil conditioner/liquid aeration products? In conjunction with physical aeration, will that help loosen compact clay soil?

What’re the pros and cons of the thin spikes compared to the thick ones and the cores? I’ve always used plugs

Do you have to worry about sprinkler heads when aerating? I always worry that it will damage them.

I leave my cores and tell my customers to stay off for three weeks. The cores in turn will act as plugs and in most cases root right in. Also, aerated lawns need to be watered a couple times a week if no rain.

I can only aerate to about 1" deep (entire lawn is underlaid with gopher wire and I don't want the aeration tines to break/cut the wire), is it worth it?

I have tall fescue and trying to learn from you but this is contradictory to what you have on your cool season lawn calendar, which has the hot summer months marked for aeration, June through September. Wouldn’t growing season and aeration be in spring and fall for cool season lawn like Fescue? Cheers

This is off subject but I thought this was the fastest way to ask. My lawn had a drip system that I converted to above ground sprinklers. That left my celebration Bermuda lawn pretty beat up. Is it a good idea to do an over seed to rejuvenate my lawn back ?

Doc i know you use a sweeper to pick up cores can you also go with a pull behind sweeper on the JD I noticed this on other core aeration you have done you pick up one row at a time ( yes or No )?
