Such a cool interview ! My absolute favourite plug ins from Arturia is the Synthi V followed by the Buchla Easel V, both being weird and obscure... which is cause for the greatest discovery and experimentation processes 🙂

Great interview. I have used Arturia since 2009 and it was because they took on the CS80. Since then … they’ve grown a bit 😉. As a whole, I’ve been spoiled by what Arturia has done. For the V Collection side, you have the ultimate synth museum for what is very much a steal compared to its original sale price. It’s similar with the FX Collection, but with the newer additions, you have “dream tools”. Pigments gets closer to a “personal dream synth” where you can mix and match various components to create something that’s both new and familiar. And finally, I love how they value and appreciate customer loyalty. So that initial 2009 investment has paid off for me very well and then some. Looking forward to what they come up with next =]

The SQ-80 V is amazing. I play with that thing for hours. Its very close but does so much more than the original hardware. I had the original. I wish they integrated the sequencer, though.

Well, I thought I would see someone talk about the actual development process, not the seling to the boss part...

o well why not; the MAC Studio, magnificient beast. but i tried the same on a windows PC; 28 arturia synths, 27 of the V Collection 8 (don't have Analog Lab installed, or overlooked 1...), and the new free Augmented Strings Intro, well in Cubase Pro, but still that isn't known to be the most efficient DAW; 23% use, at 64 sample buffer size (48Khz).... all tracks record armed... beating the keyboard, because adding notes costs CPU, releasing also, overlapping notes etc. strange, because the MAC Studio must perform better, according to benchmarks.... this of course not very scientific, i don't which presets were used, etc. but mostly i loaded my own, and they are quite extensive. so the difference can also be caused by other presets; or; well the soundinterface you use... or are a factor... still... how can a self-built desktop with a proc from the year 2021 perform, let's say on par or even better (it seems better)

Very nice interview! It's amazing how Arturia has developed over the last decade. A "simple" request to Arturia while I'm here; please introduce a "Mod" option like was added to the B3-V2 also to the Clavinet-V and the Wurli-V. It adds so many options for creating new sounds and patches. I think these three emulations are very underrated. Once you start using them deliberately not to sound like the originals you will discover many new and unexpected sounds.

There's an obsession with laptops for music production. Then of course you will be crying about CPU usage but, hey, at least your neck and back can hurt as much as you like it. A working environment must be ergonomic and if you already have a good desk with a good monitor and a good chair why not just buy a good PC for about half the price of a shitty laptop?

I was shocked to hear you use critical listening to compare instead of taking measurements from multiple hardware copies of a synth to take differences into account (even look at rebuilt /replace caps that have dried up, common practice in repair) and compare measured differences against the software. (I'm still listening to it, I may edit my comment) by using measured differences you can specify the differences. Further, one thing might be to select age of synth to set randomized values. Similar to guitar modeling, wouldn't that provide superior results?

Interesting point about Arturia sacrificing the ability for old presets not to work on new Engines. I love Arturia - but - this is a MASSIVE NO NO!!! It's down to this: if we've created a piece / project based on past Arturia Presets - and now that preset is not available in the new engine - it kills the project. That's _not_ just about 'a preset. It could be a MIDI edited line based on that preset in a DAW tack! So Arturia - there are MAJOR implications as to whether we can trust your products on our projects into the long term - and the answer to that is increasingly: No - we _cannot_ trust Arturia to maintain back-ward compatibility into the future. The key to solving this Arturia is for you to put more effort into backward compatibility with previous versions of your plugins - even when you reinvent it. You HAVE to develop your own in-house standards and protocols to enable presets from previous versions to be transferrable to new versions of the Plugins. I have used Arturia for years - but this moving from one version to the next without backward compatibility has now become a MAJOR issue for me - and I have already decided to start to back out of V-Collection for the future. In short - I can no longer trust it into the future on my projects. I hope you internalise this Arturia, and fix it. Kevin Nolan.
