Korra is one of the most amazing TV show scores I've heard in a long time. The way it blends traditional western hollywood score, and this eastern/american jazz fusion; it doesn't just make you feel stuff like it did in ATLA, it actually becomes part of the world. You can't think of republic city without hearing Jeremey's music in the back of your mind.

Would say that the Hans Zimmer of Cartoons would be James L. Venable, who did Samurai Jack that used a lot of styles of music in each country and situation in the show. And at the same time, Kevin Kiner as the John Williams of cartoons.

Zimmer is a hack who offloads most of the actual scoring work to [underpaid] people who work for him, and then takes the credit for it. Just by writing his own music, Jeremy is leaps and bounds above him, with more integrity to boot.

4:50 “Kids are emotional beings just like adults. They just don’t have the language sometimes.” Such a simple thing that most people forget 🥹 I think this way of thinking/understanding that makes his music so wonderful and impactful. I’m glad they were just as enthusiastic about showing the dark moments as much as the lighter ones.

Zuckerman's score is more often than not the Avatar element that elicits emotion from the viewer. Subtract his score from some of Avatar's iconic scene's and suddenly they don't quite have the same emotional impact. He did a magnificent job. This is an amazing interview, too, btw.

Even with the Netflix teaser, I started crying as soon as the music kicked in at the end. I read the comments and so many people said exactly the same thing. The same goes for the finale of the series, when Zuko gives his speech about the Fire Lord and the Avatar working together and bringing in a new era of peace and kindness. When that music hits, I cry so much.

When I was in high school, I remember Jeremy participated in a charity auction and offered up two signed scores, “Peace” from ATLA and “Service and Sacrifice” from LOK. I was so happy when I won the score for Service and Sacrifice and Jeremy was also kind enough to write me a letter with it. He shared a little insight on the composition of that piece where he almost “didn’t get it right.” I believe it was something about basing the melody the melody around the 5th of the chord rather than the root, but once he made the change it all fell into place. I still have that score framed in my room and it’s a constant reminder of the profound influence the music of Avatar has had on me.

I am so excited that I got tickets to see this. I cannot wait. ATLA is my favorite show of all time and I am already tearing up while watching this interview. I just know I'm going to be sobbing in the audience. I really wish I could tell Zuckerman how the music for ATLA impacted me, and continues to impact me with each rewatch of the show. Music is one of the most important things in my life. I truly feel music and I love listening to all types of music. This show has been one of the constants in my life. I can always put it on when I need comfort, when I need something. I always feel like the show keeps me company when I need it most. It relaxes me, it makes me feel really deep intense emotions, and it makes me happy. It makes me laugh and cry and ache and all the wonderful feelings a piece of art should make you feel. The amount of thought and care and effort that went into this show was truly amazing. It's a masterpiece. It's art in such a way that brings all types of art together and creates something so unique and heartfelt and impactful. Every little detail was carefully thought out. The show was cared for. I could really feel that. I will never tire of this show, or the music, or the art, or the script, or the sound design, or the animation, or the voice acting. Every single thing made this show what it is. And I will always love it. I am so grateful that this show exists. It is truly one of the best shows ever made. It's... perfect.

Amazing stuff, Jeremy. One of the most eclectic, emotional, and fascinating pieces of media music of this century. I look forward to future re-recordings of the Avatar soundtrack! It deserves this much attention and love.

Read somewhere Jeremy Zuckerman is not involved in the Netflix Live Version much like the original creators. I know the original theme was in the teaser trailer but be interesting how much of Jeremy’s original score ends up in the new adaptation or if they’re gonna completely go with the new guys work.

@christamenash5775 No, that's Kevin Kiner lol not Jeremy. And neither him nor Jeremy scored the live action Netflix series. You may be thinking of Dave Filoni who directed and storyboarded much of the first season of ATLA then ran CW with George Lucas, or Dee Bradley Baker who voiced Appa and then the Clones in SW.

I gained a new appreciation of the track Aang Becomes Ocean after watching the Netflix remake and realized I missed hearing that track. It was still an incredible scene but it made me look up the track I barely remembered and I am blown away by the emotions it conveys. All the grief and the rage nearly brings me to tears. Upon further reflection, this track uses simple drawn out string chords that results in one of the most emotional scenes of its seasons. Much like one of my favorite tracks in book 3: The Last Agni Kai.

I loved the ATLA soundtrack, but to me there was a huge jump in quality and depth in the Korra soundtrack. I'd love to see ATLA redone with some of the knowledge and techniques learned and used in Korra :)

I was always blown away with ATLA music and sound choice. The instruments were just perfectly chosen too, super immersive. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I wish this video was out sooner, I did research a lot on ATLA sound design for my final assingment at Uni, but due to insufficient information needed to pass on it. Anyways, great sound work! You guys made a masterpiece!
