While Android users are lucky to get maybe one or three OS upgrades, Apple will be giving their 7 year old iPad Air 2 iOS 15. For over a week Jonathan used it and an iPhone SE (1st gen) to see what it's like to use the latest software on the oldest tech.

Don’t worry bro, you can always… bend the rules 😏 But seriously, you should look at other iPhones since iOS 12 is getting further and further back each day. I would still recommend the iPhone 8 if the camera isn’t your top priority nor a oled screen. It has the same performance as the iPhone X, but retains the classic design and home button (aka, you iPhone 6 case may fit). It is an underrated iPhone since the iPhone SE 2020 and recent prices do reflect that. However, if your current battery is still okay, nothing stops you from using it till it gives up. But hey, still, gotta give you creds for using that good old boy and … bending conventions 😝

Mac Address is wrong. He defends apple for slowing down phones. He says that apple is better than android because they offer more software support. Even though you can't use a iphone 6 (2014) on ios 8 anymore today. All your old apps on ios 8 get disabled and your forced to update your ios. Meanwhile if you never update your android on 5.0 (2014), it will still work with all apps. Also macs slow down after updates but they don't have batteries so the whole battery degrade excuse is pure horseshit. Why doesn't he mention how apple purposely makes it impossible to downgrade ios on iphones by not allowing unsigned ipsws.

I just greatly fear that there will be not enough initial viewers for the channel to be kept active enough. This is my polite request to please keep making these videos, despite the statistics, for at least two years. By then enough true fans of Apple and quality content (there gotta be a couple million of us) discover this channel and watch each video. Then the cost of production will be worth it. I have some thoughts about this videos production, I hope you receive it in a positive manner :) I though this video was about longevity of Apple devices, as it was presented at the beginning and in the thumbnail, but it shifted to be about iOS 15 features, which was slightly confusing. Also the “take my things and go away” transition is a bit over-used in your videos. I’d suggest finding less repetitive and more creative ways to transition between topics. Nonetheless, I do appreciate this channels creative approach, which is so different from a normal LMG video :) keep up the good work!

I have that specific SE. I absolutely love it. I bought it in 2016 and I swear I had no slow-downs whatsoever. Might be totally subjective, obviously. I had used the 4S for so long and iOS there _significantly_ worsened my experience. At some point it was so bad, that it just turned off at 80% energy. This didn't happen with the SE at all. It still feels as smooth as before. One of the big reasons for why I haven't upgraded is because I hate the newer iPhones rounded design and the SE had these beautiful sharp edges. The new mini has it as well, so I'm gonna upgrade as soon as I can afford it.

Apple’s excellent software support is by far one of the biggest reasons I’ve moved to the iPhone over the past couple of years. My 2019 iPhone 11 will need its battery replaced soon (79% health) but it’s really nice having a phone that still performs excellently a couple years after purchasing it and knowing it’ll still be supported for likely longer than I’ll actually keep it. This is also why I actually feel comfortable spending big money on their iPad Pro - I know it’ll be supported for years and I can have the battery replaced when it needs it. Samsung’s best tablets still only seem to get a couple years or so of updates before being cut off. Really wish it was easier to swap the batteries on these devices though.

Thank you for showing the multitasking improvement. I don’t think people understand how much better it is have the App Library, but also, if you tap the dots at the top, then tap one of the split screen buttons, it’ll take you to your Home Screen, and when you tap another app, it brings the previous app and the app you just tapped together. Pretty much the only way to do it before was to get the app you wanted in the recents section. Someone like my sister doesn’t like using that (for some reason) so I don’t think she even knows how to use split screen (she never let me teach her, I know, she’s weird)

The fact that you also need to root and open bootloader just to make your android updated to the latest version is a big hassle to people. This is the point that majority of the android fanboys doesn't get they're always mad at the existence of apple but the fact that it has multiple updates that the common user can just do a tap and update compared to android.

The other replies are just straight up wrong. Every android I've had for the last 7+ years has received regular security updates (timely with android release cycle + US carrier delay of like a month) and software updates including upgrades to the newest version released years after the phones manufacture. No root, no nothing. The "Android doesn't get updates" meme is just wrong, and has been for a long time. I mean if you're importing from outside your market, sure, but if you buy a phone available from your carrier or a big box store, it will get updated.

The more important thing is that Android phones don't need updates anymore. Most security updates are now delivered via the Play Store as Play Security Updates. Backwards compatibility is provided for devices all the way back to Android 5 for new app development features. iOS doesn't provide this backwards compatibility support, meaning new apps often can only support the last one or two iOS versions.

Well this really impresses me, apple has a good track record about updates but a six or seven year old device getting the latest OS is truly great, recently we wanted a tablet for my grandma and this is exactly why I argued an iPad was the best option, yes they are expensive but you get a lot more time out of them, someone like grandma doesn't care about having the latest features but this means that she will be able to use it for maybe 10 YEARS as it will still be able to run any app she wants, probably even more.

It's indisputable to say that Apple is the king when it comes to Mobile Software Support. However I argue for a correction @ 1:40 , Samsung promised to 3 years of updates on their S20 line going forward. and their 2019 phones, the S10 Flagship Lineup got updated to android 11 Apple still dwarfs the android space when it comes to long term support of official OEM updates (non custom roms) but to say "you will get 1 update if you are lucky" is kinda erroneous.

It's security fixes that are really critical. New major OS versions are probably more of a convenience thing for handset manufacturers who have their shit together (so, apple, and no one else). The important thing is that users can continue to use their old phone and be confident that it's at least as secure as their PIN (12345, same as their luggage). And if Ubuntu can manage 5 year support cycles while shipping a new OS every 6 months. FFS, one of the biggest companies in the world should be able to handle that.

@@contournut5726 Something that is often forgotten outside the Android bubble: Google has bit by bit pushed more and more system updates via the Play Store. Sure, it's not a fully fledged security update (You can mostly thank SoC-producers for that), but it's... something. And Google has been pushing the mandatory minimum update timeframe year on year. It's not Apple level of updates (for various reasons most haters don't care to understand), but it is surely better than most outside the Android ecosystem think it is 😅

It's important to remember that while with Apple you get full-featured (with the exeption of some hardware specific features) OS updates, during all those years, with Android you still get google-services updated and modern apps even on older versions of Andoroid. So you might not get all the OS related features, but you get the same longevity, if not even more. Google is really good with backwards compatibility.

For the droid comparison, I have an S20 ultra that will basically be abandonware next year, if it isn’t already. Real shame. Its a nice piece that would easily sustain future iterations of Android without a hitch. If Samsung would let it. Now, Apple, free up the purchase of board level components too and you’ll be super cool.
