The RX-7 is ratty. I looked for any replacement carpet for the car. I didn't want the cheapest option, i wanted any option. Sadly its got some serious issues. After purchasing i did find that the company has some choices that aren't present on Amazon. Ill contact them and see if they can improve on all the horrible issues i found.

I took the seats out of my car, 65 Mustang. My mom installed the carpet while I was at school, 10th grade. I had left it outside while in school so I could do it myself. As a birthday gift when I turned 16 in late August, I get home and the carpet & seats were reinstalled. My father put the seats in because he helped me take them out and he installed 6 speakers and wired the entire stereo for me, of course i paid for the carpet, speakers stereo and all the wires for the amps that i would install a day later. My father was an electronic engineer, but wiring is not hard to figure out what with instructions and all!

Rob I hate to tell you this man but unless you order carpet from a specific automotive carpet company almost all companies get their carpet through acc. Ive installed this brand many times and once everything is in and it sits in some heat for a while it smooths out just fine. It is definitely a pain in the ass to install with all the creases from shipping.

Rob, I believe you owe ACC an apology. If you had followed their instructions, for letting the carpet rest, outside of its shipping packaging, unfurled in the sun, it would have laid out well (and it is cut-to-fit). While I have not purchased their least expensive carpet, I have purchased their most expensive option, and it is a very good product. If you had searched more, you would have discovered, ACC itself offers several options for an FD RX7, via RockAuto for example.

It’s not bad at all. The carpet isn’t shit he just didn’t do what he was supposed to. When you get a molded cut to fit carpet, all you have to do is pull the old one, let the new one sit out near a heat source for a while, then put it in the car. Where you need a hole just cut it quick with a razor. Trim the edge and you’re done. This job is only bad because it’s an fd

So I work for a 1960-1987 Chevrolet C10 truck parts store. The store I work for actually sells the same brand of carpet. The thing that's good about it is it's formed to the truck, and comes in all the original colors. However I feel like a car like the RX7 has more complex curves to it. I've seen numerous carpets fit in the trucks. Also the material is, you're right like an old truck or car. That's why we sell it. So it's good for some things, but not any modern car in my opinion.

Looks like since you didn't get the "hollow carpet fibers" your making up the weight difference with rust holes in floor board, I've done that myself a time or two. I've used ACC carpet in a few cars before mainly vettes and it's not too bad really , I always used the best grade for sound deadening it helps slightly.A steamer makes it easy to alter the pre-formed areas and make it fit good and lay flat. You did order the cheapest grade they make so don't blame them for that, plus it does require some experience to install it..

for putting holes for seat bolts and the like in carpet like this that isn't stamped/cut already, use an old socket of the right size and a blowtorch to heat the socket up. once you _know_ where to put the hole, use the hot socket to press down firmly in the spot to melt through and bam, clean hole. just be damn sure you have the right spot.

That was hard to watch. I work in the auto industry designing and making prototype carpets and soft trim. in addition to unrolling the carpet, and using the old one for a template don't reuse the black rubber padding. it's creating an offset today the molded shape. you need today strip more of the interior too get it together fit. Trying today work carpet around stuff is painful. The front carpet is installed by sliding it forward in vehicle until you are tight on the firewall. if you need to, cut sits in the center console area and get some velcro to put it back together, the center console will cover it up. good luck.

Yeah I am doing a complete rebuild/restore on my fd and replaced my shit tan carpet with ACR carpet. But I upgraded with the "mass backing" rubber bottom option. I selected this option because like Rob I had rust problems, I used a wire brush on an angle grinder to remove it all and coated with some por 15 rust sealer and drenched the whole interior with seal all from the gallon cans for extra moisture protection. I wanted another layer of protection and the mass backing does the trick. Yeah it's not a perfect fit... Yeah I had to do a lot of trimming but once I got most of my interior put back in everythinv looks OK. I won't say professional grade because of my lack on experience. But the quality is a lot better compared to the old rusted nasty carpet I pulled out of the car. I also had the dash completely pulled and literally my car was a shell when I installed my carpet

The city took responsibility for damages (thanks to pics of the street from my neighbor) and tried to get a body shop to vacuum it out for $50; told them that wasn't acceptable fix (gross sewer water?). Took it to North West Auto Saloon in Washington, they detail mostly 6 figure cars, as Cats Exotics is right next door and they ordered my z new carpets and pads straight from Japan(discontinued btw) for my 03 Z. The owner let the city know the bill was now in the $2,500 mark(insurance agent for the city had a verbal beat down by the owner for questioning his life long profession and quote). Always thought I should have pocketed the money, but hearing him stand up for my health and car like that I really was a no brainer..... but at least I now know how hard the alternative would have been...... Thanks Rob haha

I would have installed dynamat and glued the old rubber backing to the new carpet for the install... would have helped shape the carpet big time...

Great video. I have a 95 Nissan 240 and ordered the CAC molded carpet for it. Ran into the same issues as you did. Its molded and that is about it. It looks better than the old carpet but fukn sucks. I recommend that you buy OEM molded carpet.

Hager z then you didn’t install it right either lmao. Their stuff works great... just let it reform after taking it from the box, pull any necessary interior trim, cut a few holes with a razor and your done. Did it on my alltrac and it came out great

You should’ve put the new carpet on top of the old one(with a sheet of plastic in between them). Then glued underneath the new carpet, to reform it. That way you could fix it outside of the car
