I was having lots of oil getting into the intake track, thinking it may have been the turbo I decided to replace the turbo and check compression, did it fix the problem? #C3garagemedia #IS300TURBO #CXRACING

Problem will only be fixed for about the same amount of time get a catch can and block off the pcv fitting on the intake

Congrats! New turbo time! That oil coming out is normal you just need a catch can setup and you'll be ready to rock. Race cars are not to be expected to behave like daily drivers. Once you have boost that crank case pressure has to be effectively vented to a catch can with at least some 8AN sized lines. Piston rings will always have some amout of blow by with a boosted engine.

Happy the compressions good hopefully you can get drifting again hopefully you can just slap pistons and rods in there and call it a day maybe even just some gte pistons and rods in there or nonvvti ge rods are good too.... btw do you remember what your caster setting where..i rewatched your old alignment vids and you never actually mentioned your specs

Prolly the ringlands. We know this is common on our GE VVTis. You could very well have good compression but cracked ringlands, thus blow by in that soda can. Been following you throughout your build and I’d say you got your mileage worth considering how hard you been doggin her. I’d say prolly cheaper to rebuild than go GTE, which you’d be wise to refresh anyway. Those GTE motors are going for at least twice the cost of Wiseco pistons, Eagle rods, ARP main/crank studs, thrust washer, etc. And that’s not including new drive shaft, IC piping, etc. Assuming you’re doing the work yourself. Hit up RealStreet. How much boost/whp/wtq when she blew?

I am in the process of re sealing my is300 just added a header and downpipe and full trans rebuild and shift kit. I would like to mount the oil drain off for the turbo in the pan while its out and add a turbo in a year or two. Just dont want to run i to any issues afterwards. I dont mind doing work in the car or pulling the engine again just would like to know what is baseline recommend for throwing a turbo on basically stock engine. Also what do i do for a tune? It will be a daily driver. A few rips from the stop light maybe

Time for a built GE. Would love to see the process maybe drop a 1J head on and really bring out that JZ sound ⚡🔥
@BjornFSE3 жыл бұрын
despite popular belief the 1JZ heads actually flow worst than both the 2JZGE & GTE Heads, that better breathing talk has long been mythbusted. don't believe me? do the research

Hey man I’ve been experiencing something similar on my IS300 on 7psi and a lot of NA-T guys have the same issue. Car runs and drives fine but lots of oil from the exhaust side breather. I spoke to driftmotion about it and they said it’s due to the poor baffling in the valve cover, unlike the GTE valve covers. Just a heads up that the engine may still be in good shape.
@C3GARAGEMedia3 жыл бұрын
Your may be just blow by but mine was definitely a hurt motor. It ran over 2 years no oil out the breather what so ever. After this event it was pushing like a quart every couple minutes. I replaced the bottom end now zero blow by. Good luck with yours

How did you run your turbo drain from. Turbo what fittings and how did you bolt down turbo there no room on manifold for the back bolts.thanks
@jonjetleewayne19393 жыл бұрын
No shit it's pushing alot of oil out your adding boost to the pcv
@dthmtlsk8r3 жыл бұрын
Dang man that sucks. I feel like I’m having the same issue except my car is a brand new built motor with race internals. What oil drain are you using? Do you have an angled fitting??
@C3GARAGEMedia3 жыл бұрын
Bummer for you as well. The oil drain I am using was fabricated by a friend. I kept having issues with clearance. It is shown in more detail in my video called lets make the IS Great again.

What’s the oil level at after you changed it? If you fill it to the “high” mark off the break, it’s over filled. Change, fill with 5.4 qrts. Start, stop, let sit for 1 min. Your dipstick should be at just below half. Let it sit overnight then recheck. Your dipstick should then be just below the high mark. Not insulting anyone’s intel, but a lot of folks fill their dipstick to the high mark right off the break. This is incorrect. This means your oil level is already too high. Every car is different, but ideally (after she’s been sitting overnight) the final oil level should rest between halfway and 3/4 to the high mark.
@jonjetleewayne19393 жыл бұрын
It wasn't the turbo you ran no catch can bet the passenger side fitting on the valve cover was to the front side of the turbo and you pcv valve in the stock location on the intake manifold....meaning you were for one adding boost to the crank case... Creating alot of pressure for the other hose to dump oil into the front of the turbo... Hints oil in the intercooler

Hey @C3, any particular reason you're choosing to engine swap versus rebuilding the is300 with new piston and rods? That was my game plan when mine dies...
@h_jt_ii75533 жыл бұрын
So would you still recommend boosting the vvti and running it to 420ish if not running it hard; I.e drift events and stuff?
@C3GARAGEMedia3 жыл бұрын
Totally the GE is great for that power! Do it!!
@jpbokinawa86853 жыл бұрын
Rebuild for under $3k or swap for 2.5x that. Considering the ever raising prices on the GTEs, there is no need to do a GTE swap. The GE VVTI can do everything the GTE can, these days at a lower price point. However, it takes time and research. But it’s been done 1000 times over. MyIS and the Supra Forums have all the answers. For those who say the “2j platform is dead” and welcome to the “BMW MKV era”... let’s prove em wrong

It took a beating for 2+years so I was pretty happy with stock GE. Nice on the gte internals. I am going a similar route. It will be in the very near future.
