Liminality is something that I keep coming back to, this one word, this one term. Varying epochs of liminality anime, manga, light novels, books. School, work, friends, coworkers, clubs, vague internet connections. I'm sure it will all pass. Perhaps liminality itself it's appealing, I guess it never occurred to me. "Anime's inherent alienness, more than it's universal appeal, is what makes anime so appealing to the sorts of people who identify with it closely" That really make me think. Great video

Pokemon was banned in my elementary school because kids were selling them like drugs, honest to God I was in the lunch line and this guy said I got holographic Charizards 2 for 40 3 for 50, which to this day only sounds like a better and Better deal.

Omg I remember Barnes & Noble. Unfortunately, the ones near me have all closed down, but I remember I loved visiting it nearly every week.

I love your videos :) I started watching japanese animation around 2014, while in middle school. some friends showed me to the schools "anime club" hosted by a teacher who for some god forsaken reason was showing SAO to a bunch of middle schoolers. When I found that the medium of animation that I loved so much from showers like spongebob and fairly odd patents had a whole sea of stuff that was more "mature" and less kid like, I was ecstatic. before this the only "mature" thing I had seen was the last airbender. My biggest hope going forward is that japan never bends to cater to foreigners, that will be the death of my favorite medium.

This video was way too accurate. My local mall also has a Macy's next to Barnes and Noble. I'm glad that now in my late 20s, I can support a bookstore I love that stocks manga that I love. It makes going to Barnes and Noble very fun.

anime ARE japanese cartoons though, that's literally what they are, it's a fact, literally undeniable. that would be like saying mochi is not japanese ice cream.
