And it didn't have to be this way. The last time I rented a movie from Blockbuster was May 2011 from the last store in our city. I was amazed it was busy and mentioned that to the girl who checked me out. She said, "I don't know why we're bankrupt. We are busy ALL THE TIME!" I think there was/is(?) still opportunity there.

BlockBuster did have an "Amusement park" sore of. Back in the mid 90's right down the road from the where the Florida Panthers played, there was Blockbuster's Golf and Games. (corner of interstate 595 and 163 ave, There is an Ikea and strip mall there now) This was a place had two parts. One was a mini golf course, water bumper boats, video arcade w/ food court for the kids and families then on the other side was a Golf Pro shop, Bar / lounge with some pool tables, and a big driving range, and had some batting cages for more of the adults. During the summers the Karate school I taught at we would run a summer camp, and would take the kids here for a field trip about once a week, it was a fun place (play a lot of MK3 there) once Blockbuster gave gave up the place it was sold in 2000.

I think Blockbuster could have survived to this day. there is demand for blurays and probably dvds. how they messed it up only god knows
@PostMortar
@PostMortar Жыл бұрын
There’s a huge demand for DVDs and Blu-ray, but only for buying them. People don’t want to rent movies anymore. I wish we could still have video stores.

When you say "shipping via the Internet" I'm sure what you meant to say was "shipping via USPS". I understand how one could make that mistake, I bet the number of current Netflix subscribers who were around back when they shipped physical DVDs through the mail is really low, maybe about 4% or total subscribers today. I doubt there's many people who even remember those days!
@PostMortar

No, I meant “via the Internet.” Technically USPS. Yeah, I’ll bet most of these people don’t, or choose to forget, the DVD-only days. They still do it though. I think it’s dvd.netflix or something. Can’t imagine that’ll last long.

They went to dvd they easy to scratch old reliable vhs they lasted longer one blockbuster store use magic marker on the dvd it cause dvd to skipped like a lp I rent vhs tapes to a while I really like the movie I buy dvd Do you know they like a library keep track you're viewing habits I didn't last long at blockbuster
@PostMortar
@PostMortar Жыл бұрын
I still prefer DVDs because if you end up scratching one, you can get it resurfaced. Watching VHS a few too many times, storing it in cold or heat, or having it near magnets can ruin it permanently. Not to mention how much more you can put on a DVD without loss of quality.
