Brian Wilson opens up and explains his mental health issues such as anxiety and how he deals with them
Coming to UK cinemas 21st January - available to own and rent internationally from 21st February.
Brian Wilson: Long Promised Road is a deeply personal documentary that explores the life and career of Brian Wilson, the legendary songwriter and cofounder of the Beach Boys, through a literal and metaphorical road trip across Los Angeles, Brian's hometown. With Rolling Stone editor Jason Fine behind the wheel and Brian selecting the music, the two revisit many of the periods and locations integral in shaping Brian’s life.
Incorporating fascinating anecdotes and interviews with a diverse set of musicians that were profoundly inspired by Brian’s musical legacy, including Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Nick Jonas, Linda Perry, Jakob Dylan and Taylor Hawkins, the film also features over 50 of Brian’s most iconic hits, rare tracks, never-before-heard demos, and his own personal home movies and photo albums.
With honesty and humor, this intimate, unconventional, and deeply revealing portrait of one of rock & roll’s most legendary - and most enigmatic - icons, explores The Beach Boys cofounder’s life in music, his struggles with mental illness, and the daily rhythms of his life.

Brian has lived with fear all of his life. The tiniest things scare him everyday. But he still gets out of bed, functions like a regular person, and the two bravest things he regularly does are record music and tour all around the world. His bravery will forever be inspiring to me.

I just saw a recent tour of him, and it was painful to watch. IMHO, he shouldn't have been up there. Brian is definitely a pure heart and sweet soul and of course a genius. You can watch the videos on YT and he just goes catatonic in some areas of the music. I too have lived with fear and anxiety all my life and I'm 67.

@@Topesio66 Um...I wouldn't say that. Yes, he is probably the best songwriter/producer the world has ever seen, and he has suffered through a tremendous amount of mental illness, but he also consumed more illegal drugs than are in existence on this planet, and sometimes simultaneously. Brian and his brothers all lived the rock star lifestyle at one time or another. If by rock star behavior you mean trashing hotel rooms, then you are correct.

About 20 years ago, a guitarist friend of mine was performing an acoustic set at an outdoor cafe in Newport RI. When he was done, a guy that was sitting there gave him a thunderous applause and 2 thumbs up and then walked out. When my friend was walking off stage to put his guitar away, one of the stagehands said, "Don't you know who that guy was that gave you the thumbs up?" He said, "no." It was of course Brian Wilson. How does it get any better than that?

Haha awesome! And that just goes to show Brian’s heart of gold, and appreciation of artistry and authenticity. So many musicians act “too cool”: don’t complement each other, don’t encourage each other, because they see it as a zero-sum competition, where if someone has success or receives adulation, there’s less of it to go around for them. Conversely, Brian get IT: music is an expression of the beauty and love within the human soul, always present within all of us. A dude singing with a guitar and bearing their soul to the world with no guarantee that anyone will “like it” or any expectation of “success” can be just as beautiful an expression of humanity and the human condition as one of Brian’s lushly arranged compositions. It takes someone who’s gone thru “the whole trip” and come back around full circle to fully internalize that and live from that place. Brian is a very high being, a high yogi, in a metaphorical sense. He’s working from a spiritual level most can’t fathom, to say nothing of the artistic level he operates on.

Much and been written and dozens of videos filmed about Brian's drug use. Admittedly I have not seen them all but I was wondering who was supplying him with his poison. Where they ever identified or charged?
@Providence..
@Providence.. Жыл бұрын
In most cases, he sought it out himself from friends or people he knew. The only officially identified people who gave Brian drugs were Dennis with cocaine and Eugene Landy with his pills that Brian didn't need. There's audio of an interview Brian did in the early 80's, I believe, where he straight up asked the interviewers, as they left, if they did cocaine.
@Providence..
@Providence.. Жыл бұрын
As for charges, Dennis was never charged and Eugene Landy kept his practicing licenses in New Mexico and Hawaii until his death, but was permanently barred from contacting or interacting with Brian after a lawsuit in 1991.
