Жыл бұрынWhen the East India company was increasing its foothold and domination in the Indian subcontinent, it faced a big obstacle in the form of the great Maratha Empire. Maratha Empire started under the leadership of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and was dominating the whole subcontinent by 1759. Hence, conflicts began between the East India Company and the Maratha Empire, which led to the Anglo-Maratha Wars. There were a total of three Anglo-Maratha Wars. Watch this video by Dhruv Rathee as he dives deep into how it all started and what led to the downfall of the Maratha Empire.

Actually Shivaji rao laid the foundation for Maratha empire, but Maratha empire only became a powerhouse across the subcontinent under Baji rao-I completely ending mughals rule in the subcontinent.

I Lived in Maharashtra and love how much respect they give to Chatrapati. No one is even allowed say the name of Shivaji without attributing Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. I appreciate you did the same. Had British didn't arrived , Afghanistan to Burma would have been under Maratha Empire till WW 1
