When I was a child, my grandfather taught me these by telling me stories while we travel from Kolkata to Rishra, a place in hoogly where his home was. I still remember how I fell in love with history, especially the post-Mughal period, since my city Kolkata played a big part in it. My grandfather passed away in 2013. Watching this video almost made me tear up, and I was smiling in joy because I remember each and every things Dhruv says...Subsidiary alliance, Doctrine of Lapse, battle of Plassey, Farushshiyar's farmaan and so on. Thank you for this video, my man...I remembered my childhood again :)

actually, I dont think this is not taught at all. History taught is school is quite linear, eg: Mughals ruled India from X to Y years. Then there was a war, which British won. And all of a sudden they started ruling all over India. The nuances that this invasion was gradual, perfected over generations (from British POV) is not taught at all.

Sikhs did bidding for the British, took help ( bombs, maps, telescopes, guns, bombs , soldiers, tanks) and invaded kingdoms who used swords and stones. When the rented Sikh empire expanded, British broke deals with them and conquered India. Mrathas did the same. It's not wrong to say that Sikhs and Marathas are the reasons behind the British colonization. British in return, built Maharashtra and Punjab. benefits like cinema, railway, water dams, bridges, roads, irrigation/agriculture system, English colleges, courts, parliament , printing press, factories trained army ISI/ RAW.

200 years of colonial rule is not a period when we gave up and become a slave rather this 200 yrs period is actually continuous struggle. Actually british doesn't even rule for 200 yrs they ruled north for even less than 150 yrs also that period is hard for them to rule in 1838 they defeated Sikhs and then they acquired whole india just for next 100 yrs and from 1857 there is struggle movement going on. They rule in northern and western india even less than 150 yrs.

Hi Dhruv I think you forgot about the last standing empire against British The Mighty Sikh Empire. Which fought two anglo sikh wars and stand till 1849. While maratha empire defeated in 1818 by british. And the interesting thing is that the sikh empire had 80% population of Muslim, 12 % Hindus and 8 % Sikhs. All repelled British side by side as one nation called The Great Panjab Thanks I don’t know you gonna see my comment or not but i feel its important to give my input.

I am a Pakistani now living in south punjab but my grandfather migrated from Amritsar or Ambersar which had 51 percent sikhs and 45 percent muslims. No state was divided from its heart like punjab and thats why there is more love and indian and pakistani punjabis than other states who remained where they were. we hav esame mothertongue literature and culture.

In school I always wanted our history lectures to be like this. The school books had typical English which was hard to understand and had a lot and lot to read , so basically samjhme kam ata tha. But was always interested in history, enjoyed the video . You can make video now on British rule and how it was defeated

I am 77 year old from Pakistan. I really like the way you explain the things. Factual and unbiased. British and Mughals fought two wars directly. Mughals power was destroyed first by Nadir Shah and later by Marhatas. Control of Dehli was transferred to British from Marhatas after they lost second anglo marhata war in 1803.

The concept of civilisations is very old like Sumerian, indus, Chinese etc. After the evolution of civilisations, the cultures within the civilisations evolved. India was a subcontinent just like Europe Africa etc. They teach us wrong that India existed before 1947. Partition of India is a false approach too. It was partition of British empire in general and Punjab and Bengal in particular. India and Pakistan were created in 1947. Before that there was British Indian empire, Sikh Empire, maratha empire, Mughal empire, and various empires like mauryan empires etc. In most of the world countries were created on nation basis like all countries in Europe are based on nationality, Korea, Japan, Bangladesh is also based on nationality while India Pakistan are based on religion. If India and Pakistan are disintegrated and all nations within them form their nation states like Bangladesh then the base of the countries would be nationality and they would be called nation states.

But, everywhere I see you people crying to get it acknowledged by others. It doesn't get acknowledged because you don't try to acknowledge that it wasn't just Sikhs in that empire, everyone was a part of that empire and you try to get it acknowledged as a separate country, but it was in present day India. I am from Bangladesh and my dad side used to be very powerful during that time that they named us razadhar. the British army noticed how powerful and respected our grandparents was so they made us part of their army and asked my great grandfather to collect all the tax from our village and the neighbor villages. they gifted my family a school bc how good job my families was doing. my grandpa and his younger brother, cousins was trained to be in the army.they still have the the guns till this day. people started give us many respected name to our big family. they still call us dargha Bari means army family/bari..then after Bangladesh got our freedom the gov took most of our lands.

As a humanities student I always wonder why there's less students in our stream & I'll always get these stereotypical answers coz it's taken by weak one's, it's easy (which its definitely not) & so on, as the society has created this typical mindset to students & parents that science & commerce is the supreme stream you will only be respected if you choose among these. This is why many students who actually like social studies been suppressed by these norms so it's vry important specially for parents to understand what their children take interest in. This is why now there's lack of basic knowledge abt history & politics....& that's why many people get easily influenced by wtsapp university texts & posts.
