The Calgary C-Train is very successful! However, as someone who used this train line for nearly a decade, there has been a lack of funding and care put into the system and it's really not as strong as it could be. The people of Calgary deserve better transit and for the Green Line to be built!!

@@im_a-walking_shitpost_machine that’s barely even a an achievement, comparing a city of 750k to two citites with a combined of 550k. Kinda shows how underdeveloped Winnipeg is than showing how bad the two cities are .

I live in Calgary and I do utilize the C-Train quite often. But unfortunately Calgary is still quite car dependent and I wish the city would spend more money on transit. But I am glad that the Green Line project is beginning soon...

This system is great but it needs an airport connection. When that is eventually built ridership will increase even more

Yeah its unfortunately only served by busses. There is one bus route that goes from Mcknight Statin to the Airport, and I do think perhaps it might be a good idea to make an extension of the Blue Line from that station to connect the C-Train to the airport.

Calgary shows you that you don't really need a dense city to make LRT work. You just need it connect to major transit hubs as well as have a fairly big and centralized office district to make it work...

@@DashCamOutEastIts very impressive and I was thinking/wondering earlier today if Canada and the businesses of the country (open market) will try to grow Yellow Knife, and even build a city on the Arctic Coast, because populating the warming Arctic with some small cities should be a goal for Canada for the coming decades when it is ice free most or all year long.

Free fares are a gimmick. They don’t improve a system the same way service improvements would. You wouldn’t take a free bus if it’s frequently late or if the headways were too long.

Transit Fares in Metro Vancouver are the highest in Canada ( see CUTA Fact Book ) This is due to the 3 zone system

So, you showed an image of the SE Green Line when talking about the west extension of the blue line. The free fare zone isn't a major factor in the amount of ridership the system gets. You completely glossed over the fact that downtown Calgary is extremely dense with jobs, as in the second highest concentration of head offices and towers outside of Toronto, and parking was limited/reduced with higher prices to encourage train ridership. That is the huge underlying factor in why Calgary has such high ridership. It isn't anything to do with ticket prices of free fare zones.

It’s true Calgary has a high number of head offices but it isn’t second, it’s fourth, much behind Toronto (705), Montreal (384) and Vancouver (247), Calgary is home to 206. Parking prices, however I do agree is most likely a more impactful policy, it’s also seen in many major cities though you are correct it should’ve been mentioned! I would still argue though that the free fare zone by nature, also promotes ridership, certainly for those working downtown! Last month alone 10% of total ridership came from this free fare zone which is quite small compared to the whole of the system… it definitely offers a benefit to travel via the ctrain for downtown travel

Yeah that's true. If the USA spent as much money as they do on highway expansions on rapid transit, I'm there they would be able to have some great Rapid Transit Infastructure... But unfortunately the USA is too car obsessed :(.
