We cannot control the things we cannot control.
We can take responsibility for the things we can control - i.e. ourselves. We can choose to live with an infinite mindset and create trusting teams even if they're just around us.

*I love the title "Optimist and Best Selling Author"* Company culture is so important. I really like the book "The Ideal Team Player" to help with company culture. However, I think it is very hard to change people. I think better bets is putting people in place that fit the culture you want. Specifically putting people in places of leadership that fit the culture you want. It is something that may take time to adjust, but overtime, anything is possible.

Problem is that I'm not in a leadership position where I am, but have been in other companies And I can easily identify mistakes in leadership now that will lead, eventually, to the destruction of the ethos of the company in the name of increased revenue. Like that's the only thing that matters. I watched the same dynamic take hold and undermine Wells Fargo. Why we insist on trading on our corporate reputations for short term windfalls just doesn't make sense from a long term perspective. The NFL has some good examples of this on a micro scale. Think of the New England Patriots. A huge part of their success has been keeping and developing a great team. Sure, some players haven't worked out, but the culture has built a lot more players into great than it recruited as already great. And those guys stay. And the team succeeds over a much longer period. Nobody asks the players to play multiple positions for no benefit, nobody thinks only about the amount of money the team is making and how to scale down salaries and benefits to enhance profit. Instead, they focus on the players, the team, and whatever it takes to build them into the most effective team they can be. The Arizona Cardinals are at the opposite end, only focusing on the desired outcome by recruiting proven players on short term contracts to build a winning season right now. Their respective team records illustrate the difference in outcomes. Tom Landry did the same thing with the Dallas Cowboys that Bill Belichik has done with the Patriots. Jimmy Johnson, too. Wants dynastic company? Stop thinking one season at a time, take the time to nurture and build your players by focusing on their needs and then keep them. Otherwise, every year will be in question. You'll have some wins. Even some miracle seasons that convince you that your method is sound. But in the long run, real, lasting success will elude you and you just might destroy you company along the way. Consistent quality beats miracle seasons built on luck every time.

@@codacreator6162 Leadership exists at all levels. Simon Sinek talks about this in some videos. While you may not officially be a leader, one can certainly influence those around you. Every team has natural leaders. You mention how NFL team owners and head coaches lead by example, the QB is expected to lead, but defensive lines also have captains which serve as leaders for their team. That said, I can understand when one decides it is not worth staying in a toxic or non-nurturing company and chooses to leave.

Let good leaders influence you and you will be guided accordingly. But there's no such thing as a perfect leader, just follow and pick up the good traits, and disregard what you think is inappropriate.

Our language used to describe other human beings shows us how messed up humanity really is: 'subordinate'. Sub: meaning “under,” “below,” “beneath” Ordinate(Verb) to align a series of objects. "An object beneath me." Isn't that just how much of humanity both thinks and acts out?

It depends on how you perceive it. In Eastern cultures, and in healthy functioning western cultures, it is a duty of those on top to take care of and develop those beneath. Someone who is subordinate is someone under your protection. As Simon has alluded to before, it is precisely because you are the strong, powerful one, that you have the responsibility to take care of others. It isn't the hierarchy that's bad, it's the malfunctioning hierarchy that's bad. When the people at the top take all the rewards but do none of the work. And worse, when the people at the bottom shut up about it.
