I also don't have contact with my sexually abusive father. But I did try to honor him with a conversation about his sin and a call to repent before making that decision for myself and children's safety. I still honor him by praying God would save him and change him so I can have the dad in heaven that he was meant to be. I did the same thing with my extremely emotionally abusive mother and she cried and repented and is still in my life. Sometimes she causes problems for me again but I question her in ways that honor her and she usually has a pattern introspecting and taking it to the Lord. I have to be careful not to nitpick... She prays a lot for me now too! I feel it is a ministry.

I used to clean his kitchen every time I went to visit even as an adult… I tried for years to bite my tongue and overlook things. I even offered hundreds of hours of medical advice and philosophical / theological concepts…. I tried. My mother is a narcissist. I wouldn’t have even be able to do that for her.

Family brought you the gift of life...what about those who were born to be given away to be enslaved and raped? I always regret my existence, i never asked to be born. Seeing how cruel the world is right now, this made me not to want having kids as I don't want them to suffer like I did. No judgement upon those who don't exist. If you live in a family where your parents are just purely evil to the point of almost killing you for money...am i not the same as them when i find it hard it in my heart to offer grace? Amen, I love how pastor john points all men to Christ for salvation and not to other people, like Mary, or the Pope, or saints or angels, but Christ alone whom God has sent and is the Mediator between God and man.

And the problem in other countries is children have zero parents. Like when the father leaves at the birth of his child. And the mother leaves 6 months later. Then how do some of those children survive? By becoming servants to others in exchange for food and shelter. But my wife still supports her biological mother to this day. And that's because: Ephesians 4:32 - Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

This seems counter to the point of this podcast. Piper just pointed out seven instances in the bible commanding honor be given to people weather they deserve it or not, but you've chosen to say single-parent families are THE problem with America, dishonoring all the men and women raising children alone and ignoring all the other contributing factors to our country's decline. This is an example of God’s Providence and Blessings in our lives. To be honest it was very difficult for my wife growing up. After her sick grandmother died, her new hosts began training her when she was 5. And every Saturday starting at age 7, she had to walk 1 mile to the river, by herself, carrying a basket of her host’s clothes on her head. And after spending a day washing clothes with rocks and soap, and letting them dry in the hot sun, she took the long walk back home, on a mountain path, to the people who cared for her. Then the next day she would serve the children of the owners of the house. And before and after school every day she had assigned chores, including cooking. And studying was always last- but it was never neglected- unless the lamp ran out of oil. At age 17 after my wife graduated high school at the top of her class, she was awarded one half year of free college, so she moved to the city. But the college didn’t allow sandals, so she found a pair of shoes for free, that no one wanted, that didn’t fit, with red and white stripes for design. And although she looked like a clown on campus, God sent Angels (students with humble hearts) to help her, and to laugh with her, during those difficult times. And she found a place to live, in exchange for early morning and late night work services 7 days a week. And there were food, money, and other problems associated with lack of food and money that children with 2 or 1 good and fortunate parents may not experience. And I've had Crohn’s disease for over 60 years. In 1969 at age 10, with a temp of 106%, and no pain meds to comfort me, I had my second surgery on a hospital bed, when 3 nurses and 1 doctor pinned my legs and arms to the bed, and then the surgeon operated on me, in order to keep me alive. My first surgery was 7 days earlier in an operation room. And those 3 months in the hospital can only be described as a horror story. But at least I had 1 good parent, but not fortunate, a WW2 immigrant who spent most of her time working to support her children but managed to visit me before hospital closing time. If I had 0 parents, what would have happened to me? And after many surgeries over the last 50 years I now have only 20% of my intestines remaining as measured by Mayo Clinic during surgery. After recovering from surgery in 2008, the medical staff at Mayo Clinic was training me to live on a TPN-IV. But I said “No Thank You, I have an 8 month old child to take care of”, so I went home without the TPN-IV - after a health care infection forced the medical staff to remove my TPN PICC line… 2 Corinthians 5:7 Let me conclude by saying that both my wife and I count ourselves blessed for the lives we had by the Grace of God in our lives. And my family of 3 knows we had so much more than the majority of citizens who live in this same temporary world. But beyond All human measurements we have Peace from God our Father through Jesus our Lord by God's Holy Spirit who comforts us daily with God’s Holy Word, which is available to All of us who believe… Proverbs 18:24 and John 14:27 Let me also say that the journey we’re all on now is temporary, but our destination is permanent. So share the gospel as much as you can so no one gets lost. And help children along the way as much as you can - especially those who don’t have 2 parents. Unfortunately Bible still stands true I have to find a way to honor my mother as much as it cringes me to do it. But I’m discovering I may be able to honor her better with very little contact as she just is triggery for me every time we are together. 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

I am so sorry to hear I totally understand you. For me it was with my mother when I was younger I was always targeted for everything I did and she would scream and hit me for anything. For example I would ask what time it was as a little girl and she'd just start mocking me and calling me stupid and tell me to use common sense and looking back that's such a normal thing to ask as a kid or even as an older person. Then when my hand writing wasn't neat enough or when I didn't understand something she was saying she would scream, hit, and mock me and I was only a kid. Literally yesterday I was having a panic attack because of her and she starts imitating me in order to prove that she is better and since I'm a sensitive person I always cry because of her and she always accuses me of crying for pity and that I use these tactics as a form of manipulation. A few years ago I lost respect for my mother for being so cruel and my father for being absent emotionally and never helping me. NOW something that has helped me is looking at the cup being half full rather than half empty. As a kid I never stood up for myself and would be so respectful and get disrespected back so one day I just had enough and thought if I am going to get disrespected either ways I'm gonna be disrespectful back and that's the day I lost absolute respect for my parents. I am a naturally really grateful person so being rude to them because of all the hate I built up towards them makes me feel like a brat even tho I believe they deserve to not be respected. for now just think about the good things they do for you even though it sounds like the bare minimum some parents fail to provide for their children economically. some kids can't go to school, some kids don't eat, some kids were completely abandoned by their parents. I was emotionally abandoned by mine but at least I have access to a roof and a bed. Then by the time you're old enough to move out, get out, forgive them, and cut them off. that is my plan and I'm sure it could be useful for you too.

The word honor is said twice in that passage. One for Kings and one for men. I think there was a difference in the two words used. I think it was meant for honor for kings and value for men.

It is only still in the constitution (I think) because it is a part of the main body of the Constitution, and is not an amendment, so the words themselves cannot be repealed. But I assure you that it has no legal enforcement or standing today, because any future laws (like the Civil Rights Act) that contradict cancel it out. So the words are still there, but it is long out of practice.

Then you should pray that God would do a work in your heart. Yes, some of God's commands will be hard for us, that is why as believers we are to rely on the strength of the Spirit. It is also helpful when remembering the grace God has shown us when we were dead in our sins and trespasses.

Can I be frank? This sounds like it was written by an abusive parent who believes their children are ungrateful for potentially saying, at some point, they felt abused.

For example, I used to subconsciously compare my parents to some arbitrary standard, but then matured enough to think "when's the last time I've actually built them up myself?" Like their confidence, etc. Like, "what have I done"?
