The Army Navy Hospital in Arkansas is the
first Federal Military Hospital in the United States. The Army Navy Hospital opened to patients in January 1887. It was led by the Secretary of War but control was handed over to the U.S Army in 1957. Approximately 15,000 patients were emitted during the years of war. The Army Navy Hospital treated over 125,000 patients over its lifetime including Helen Keller and Joe DiMaggio. In 1933 the main building was replaced with a new massive 518 bed building. It was constructed just a few years after World War
II. In 1960 the hospital became a rehabilitation
centre and was ran by the state of Arkansas. In 2011 the rehabilitation centre closed down
and became the Arkansas Career Training Institute. Unfortunately after years of decline in enrolment the state of Arkansas closed the Arkansas Career Training Institute in May of 2019. The Army Navy Hospital is on the Most Endangered Places list. The whole property is offered for free but with strict rules for use of the property to an approved organization.

Real men don’t wear masks, it’s called iron lungs. The men that built these buildings were exposed to a lot more than what a person is randomly walking through once in a while.

That main building could house so many homeless vets. I been to that hospital back in 1974 with my ex in law’s who went there for alcoholic treatment. Used to be a patient there they called the chicken man who wound walk on the edge of curbs and stop every now and then, and flap his arms and crow like a rooster. So sad. That used to be a beautiful building and grounds. I lived in Hot Springs for years. used yo with at a hotel across from bathhouse row.

This once beautiful place has deteriorated to this shell of a place that it is today 😞😢😰 Very sad that due to neglect, cost of upkeep & different priorities, this once iconic, mainstay of the town, has been allowed to crumble into ruins 😢😞😞 This once vibrant campus plus the hotel were gorgeous and sooo very important to the town’s economy & livelihood!!! What a waste of time, effort & money to let it go this way!!! Thank you for sharing this wonderful adventure with us Brent! I truly loved it 👍♥️💕❤️

Hello from Wisconsin, great video, i'm so glad i got to see the building before they knock it down, i'm pretty sure that ledge for somebody to stand in by the bowling lanes was for somebody to watch making sure people didn't go over the foul line, being place behind the foul lines makes it easy to spot if somebody goes over it, and of course being high up in the air you can see all lanes clearly, and there may have been 2 people on that ledge watching when busy or tournaments, its so nice they have laser lights at the foul lines nowadays, thanks again for the great explore !!!!!!!

Incredible property. Yet, when cleanup is an issue, one must question how many tons of lead paint and asbestos are in the building. If I'm not mistaken, some of the floor tiles are made of asbestos. It makes any prospect of utilizing these buildings, practically speaking, impossible. I'd prefer they be used, especially the central structure; as for the rest, many appear unrecoverable. Great video, Brent, thanks. God bless and smooth your pathways, 🙏👑✝💖

The biggest barrier is that this place is covered in Asbestos. My dad worked there from 1984-2000. Back in the 1980's the state gave it a waiver as long as they installed drop ceilings. That and just the age of the wiring would require an entire rewire. A proper fire suppression system would need to be installed. One of our local elementary schools was torn down due to the face it would require more money to rewire the old school than it would to just build a new larger one. And that school wasn't anywhere near the size of the Rehab Center.

31:49 = In 1919 or 1920, my maternal grandfather dropped out of school for good at age 12 or 13 (he was kind of a h-llraiser) .... and he decided to go to work, and his first job was as a pinsetter in a bowling alley in Michigan ... and yes, the boys would roll the balls back and they also had to set the pins back up as fast as possible .... and sometimes impatient bowlers would hurl the bowling balls down the lanes, at them!

In the 1940s and 50s. When you would go into bowling alleys, they would have what are known as pin setters. Or pin hops! The job of a pinsetter or pinhop would be to manually load the pins into the racks and hit a button to lower them down to automatically set them up. But they didn't have an automatically set them up. But they didn't have an automated system to put the pins in the racking. That will what's what a pin setter would do. They would also activate the machines to propel the balls back to the patrons who were actually bowling in there. And that is to set up for this particular boeing alley.

All that can be seen is a big bright blob on a piece of paper or what ever you're showing. The upper floors that you went to where every room had a sink in it. Those were exam rooms for the hospital! Today, when you go into exams or usually aren't sinks in them, but in something that's about 10 to 15 years older and you go to a Doctor's office. Those exams have sinks in them as well. So that's probably what the upper rooms were for.

With the homeless problems in most cities they could have a sale of the usable equipment and with some Federal & State monies make these buildings short term apartments for the homeless and low income. They're NOT too far gone for that to happen! Though a few of the buildings might be too far gone fir renovation! You've shown some of this in earlier videos! NOW it makes sense!

If the town records show that place was built in the 1940s then the people that recorded that time frame must be hiding something because those walls and ceilings are falling in and that wouldn’t be happening if it was built in the 40s.

Interesting!...considering all the detail they put into this building you would think they would salvage this and make it not such a waste, it's huge!, it could be low income housing which everywhere is in desperate need of. I'm missing the Canada views Brent...don't keep leaving home😂😂, PS, I don't wish to buy this one!😂

It is sad to say but this is a building that would cost more to renovate that it would be beneficial.
