Natalia lives in Spain and during a live chat last week she highlighted how she could buy it cheaper online elsewhere.
I explained to her that the only way of understanding the value of our service is to experience the guitar without it!
OR.... If she bought the guitar from me - I would video myself opening the box and show her the work done to improve it. - THEN Natalia could quantify the difference in price paid.
So Natalia this is for you. THANK YOU SO MUCH for giving me the opportunity to help you with your purchase and as a man of my word - here is the video.
(Its a BEAUTY!)

I've bought a few guitars that were supposedly 'set up' by the sellers and clearly weren't. I know where i'll be purchasing my next guitar from. Top work Sir.

Bicarbonate of soda powder and a tiny bit of superglue in the nut slot, goes rock hard instantly, then you recut to the new depth!!! Works a treat!

Great to see a guitar shop that makes sure your new guitar is ready to play ,and not leave it up to you to see if anything is wrong with it later on .I’m moving near to Coventry so your shop won’t be too far away for a visit

What a beautiful guitar. Interesting video, presented with your usual honest and amiable style! I've realised how important the set-up is. Wouldn't buy one without it now.

It's been a while since I bought a new guitar, but I do own several guitars by Vintage and seven of them (yes seven, I do like their guitars) were new and not one of them were set up or had any work done with to them at all. Over the years I've learnt to do some things for myself, and what shocks me is that you can walk into numerous music shops in this country and very few of the guitars would have been set up at all, even the action is often stupidly high, the most that is done is get them tuned. You clearly care about what you do Richard and by putting in this amount of effort you'll get customers that will stay with you for life. Nice one! Just wish I lived closer (I'm in Cornwall).

Hi Ronnie. Thanks for your feedback. It would be really interesting to know how you feel about your guitars. You clearly like them or you wouldnt have bought 7 but you say they were not set up. Can you see how having them setup would have improved them? Or do you feel they were all ok? What are your thoughts?

I bought a Vintage strat online a few years ago just because it was cheap and I wanted a "project" guitar. Something to swap pickups on etc. It was unplayable out of the box. Like Ronnie I've learnt few things over the years and managed to sort it (the retailer was very good and offered to replace it but I said I was willing to give it a go first). Would I want one that was set and sorted before it left the shop? Definitely, although I sorted it it was still a hassle I could've done without.

I bought one of these Vintage V72FTB's locally today, and I can only hope that Natalia loves hers as much as I love mine. I did the setup myself, though it needed very little work. Mainly just the dry neck and smoothing out the nut slots. It's a fantastic guitar!

A lovely guitar and a mini-humbucker too! Every guitar needs a setup, even a new made in USA Fender one. Minimum in Canada is $91.00 CDN or 53 pounds sterling, just to put things into perspective. That does not include dressing the frets, filing edges etc. . etc. Once Richard sets it up, it will surely be a keeper.

I never noticed that leeway at the nut can cause problems. (secret fix with baking powder and superglue, don't tell!) And yes, that 13th fret is typically where things go wrong!

Can’t understand the downvoting here. Clearly this company are adding value and doing the job that really all retailers should be aspiring to. I’m constantly amazed at the amount of guitars that hang on music store shelves, rusty strings and without any kind of setup or care applied. Yet they are quite happy for you to take a punt and buy it there and then and walk home with it in the same unloved condition....The mind boggles!

Hi Richard, I love this guitar, for the price the quality it's mind blowing, this particular guitar I love trying it out in my local shop, but I would purchase it through you, when I am ready, the very fact you offer an setup with the price is incredible, I am from Toronto now living here in the UK, you cannot get a setup for that price in Toronto, COSMO setup charges from $250 which is about £147.68 Sterling , so I might go back home soon, but you can assure that when I am ready to order this guitar I hope it can be shipped to Toronto, not sure how much the shipping cost would be but I will order it from you, :)

That is exactly what I would like to believe too! Problem is people scan around and see a price and naturally presume everyone will be supplying the same "product". Its very hard to demonstrate just how different our guitars can be from what arrives in so videos like this all help get the information out there. Natalia trusted in me all the way from Spain so felt I owed it to her to keep my promise of providing video evidence of "the difference" but I thought it would be interesting for you guys who follow the channel too.

As some others state for the money you're charging the work is tremendous. My local luthier who I believe is actually good value would be probably £60 for the nut £50 for the basic set up, and probably £70 at least the fretwork. I've received Gibson's with the string wraps on which clearly had never been checked. I can do most my own work especially set ups and will probably just set up any guitar new to me straight away to my tastes but for any one with little or no knowledge they're stuck.

Hi from Denmark! I wonder what Vintage means by "rosewood ply" as a fretboard material? Either its one piece or not. I cant imagine buying a plywood for a fretboard :D Im sure they made a mistake in their description, or? Im looking to get me a Vintage T-style and would not mind paying you if indeed you get through the fret, nut and set-up so its playable. That would be awesome!

I bought 2 months ago Ibanez tcm 50 from Gak. Saddle been lowered but neck been to flat. Action been middle but is not possible go any lower due to few frets start buzzing. Recently I played few guitars in PMT and when I asked about guitar setup after my order they said no I get only factory setup :( The cheapest price for setup I founded in Lichfield just £30 but is around 20 miles from me so extra money for fuel and time. The cheapest Vintage Vsa 500 on ebay new £280 with delivery. From Richard shop £379 with good setup and checks. Richard if you lowest your prices you smash all market :) Is looks like you have guitar shop with passion and some other brands guitars supermarket.

Lol you had me until the last sentence. 😂. No seriously the reality is we are so overwhelmingly busy a day doesn’t go by where I question our ability to continue selling guitars at cheaper prices because they require so much effort for little appreciation. As you have just highlighted you still want the guitar at a cheaper price!!! I know what you mean though . Anyway... I think we have the balance spot on. I would hate to remove the opportunity for players to have incredible playing guitars at the price we can sell them forex. My best advice is pretend our guitars are a different brand because the product we sell is a step up indeed from what comes out the box

I think the set up service is excellent. I do question calling them Vintage ‘Custom Pro’ however. Might this be a little misleading in that the customer might be of the opinion that the guitar they are buying is out of the ‘Vintage Custom Shop’ which obviously doesn’t exist. It is the same basic spec guitar. If I buy a Fender from my local guitar shop and they set it up I doubt they would get away with advertising it as Fender ‘Custom Pro’ and adding a sticker on the headstock. You should be proud of the service you offer and not try to justify in this slightly ‘dubious’ way. That is my personal opinion obviously and I may be wrong.
@RichardsGuitarshop
@RichardsGuitarshop 5 жыл бұрын
Dubious? What is dubious about it? It is VERY VERY clearly labelled. Vintage were so impressed by my new labelling the sales office manager has shared it on his Facebook page!! Its not just a sticker on the headstock. The sticker and the certificate are to give the customer obvious value so if they choose to sell the guitar on they can prove they had the guitar professionally quality controlled and setup to the highest standards. If you are were selling one on Ebay and you saw a Vintage or a Vintage Custom Pro - which would you want to buy? Please go and look at the product page in more detail and see exactly how its promoted. Here are some links for you..... rguitars.co.uk/products/vintage-vs6mrf-electric-guitar-inc-100-professional-setup-added-value - So that is the product page which makes it VERY clear what it is - then the actual blog this page links to..... rguitars.co.uk/blogs/news/vintage-custom-pro-explained . Remember - we still sell these guitars for 10% LESS than the RRP. So we are still discounting them yet giving the customer all this work free of charge AND providing them with certification in order to give THEM long term value too. Is that dubious?
@Skybluetoo
@Skybluetoo 5 жыл бұрын
Richards Guitars try not to be so aggressive Richard - it’s rather unbecoming. I retract the word ‘dubious’ but stand by my point that the service you are offering is no more than my local guitar tech does for £55 - £65 and yet you are adding the label/moniker/description, whatever you want to call it of ‘Vintage Custom Pro’. Yes I have had a look at your website and when I saw a Vintage V100 ‘Custom Pro’ for sale I was immediately interested and thought to myself, blimey, Vintage are offering a higher standard of guitar that they call Custom Pro. Reading on I find out that it’s a stock V100 but with your added value set up/fret dress service. As I said before, your service is great and should be applauded and valued but I’m not so sure about retitling the guitar itself as a ‘Vintage Custom Pro’ rguitars.co.uk/pages/search-results-page?q=vintage+v100

Yes it is great that you look after your customers Sorry there is a but, you offer a £100.00 set up OK but your guitar is £16.00 more expensive then two shops on the net I found so that would make the set up £84.00 I believe that was Natalias question which was, in my opinion, you sidestepped this question on the Vid I do not think you are expensive but if there was nothing wrong with the guitar just a bit of tuning and intonation that would not be £84.00 and at my calculation only on some bad guitars that I would not want to contribute too. I do understand that you offer this £100.00 set up for free It is not if you are more expensive than other stores so be fair to all

Doug J!!! Sorry if I have a little chuckle... You are telling me that I am ONLY £16 (!!!!!!!!!!) more expensive than people you found online and you then go on to QUESTION why??????? I have had some wine so maybe I am misunderstanding a joke here... hang on let me read your comments again..... OK... I have read and read your comment and I genuinely dont believe you are joking? So lets take it as a serious enquiry. You think I SIDE STEPPED her question? Which was she could find the guitar cheaper online and why am I more expensive. You think that despite me doing a massive video on adjustments, improvements, a full and immensly detailed setup including rebuilding the nut slot and recutting it, fret ends - you name it - it was done.... you think I side stepped the question about why I am £16 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) more expensive. Can I ask? What planet are you from? PS - The setup is not £100. We charge £55 for a setup if you but it privately . We do the same work when we set up a guitar pre sale. However - if we reject the guitar then there is the process of returning the guitar to the supplier, duplicating the work on the next guitar etc. We also offer 6 and 12 month checkup and reset so the estimated value of the add on service is a genuine £100 value. Hope that clarifies things. Hand on heart if you feel I need to spend the time to justify this to you in the way I have done - following watching the video - following all the other videos I have done on the subject - I really am not the guy to but your guitar from. I would recommend Gear4Music.

@@JamesMears76 Yes, it would be fantastic for both retailers and consumers, if your typical new 'budget' range guitar arrived fresh from the factory, perfectly set up and in A1 condition. Instead, lets just let reality set in for a moment! Now, if I understand your comment correctly, you seem to be advocating buying a guitar from an outlet that supplies an instrument that has likely never seen daylight since leaving the factory, in order to save £16! Even if the the alternative was to buy the same instrument from someone like Richards Guitars, where an extensive quality check and set up service is provided. A service which clearly should clearly cost way more than £16 price difference for the time expended. Im sorry, I don't understand your logic, but I do admire your commitment to it.
