Neat! I always wondered how florescent fixtures from 20 + years ago have changed, now I know! For instance I have an old florescent drafting desk lamp that has a 'start' button and an 'off' button, so the 'start' button probably takes the place of the arc.

Great Video, I'm just beginning my journey into electronics and learnt quite a lot. You explained it really well. In the modern CFLs, what do you think are the main failure modes? I'm considering if it's worth salvaging the coil and some caps off the boards of nonfunctional CFLs before I throw them out.
@xanataph
@xanataph 9 ай бұрын
I reckon it's definitely worth saving the high voltage caps. They usually have reasonable length wires on them. Also in many I have scrapped that have failed the transistors often still work.

I never thought about how CLF's work! By the way, I am working on your brushed drone project but I have a problem. I don't want to buy the Radio transmitter due to budget issues as most controllers in my country cost around $60 to $80USD is there a way to control the drone with an nRF24 with my pc or phone? If not it's ok I can work with the Bluetooth modules but I want to use the nRF due to range problems. I have considered using the ESP8266 but I could not find a suitable code anywhere. Please, is there a way to use the drone from my pc or phone? or will I have to use the Bluetooth module instead(I do have the code for the Bluetooth module). Anyways thanks! I have learned a lot from you and will continue to do so.

@@narayanbandodker5482 this was long before LED lighting technology was even available. CFLs have always been terrible quality, I don't know anyone who still has CFLs (even frugal people). There was a low-mercury mandate in fluorescent tubes: these fail prematurely. CFLs are now more expensive than LED bulbs.

Frequent power on and off can shorten CFL lifespan. Also Good ventilation of the lamp is needed. From my personal experience, CFLs do last longer than incandescent lamps.
