Scaling Mount Everest is no mean feat. It comes with risk of death and yet hundreds of mountain enthusiasts and adventurists attempt to summit the world’s highest peak every year. Aditya Gupta, a Delhi based entrepreneur and a trained mountaineer is one of them. He was one of the hundreds of climbers who were stuck in traffic jam in the so called ‘death zone’ of Everest. Although Aditya reached the summit of Everest successfully, many others couldn’t. At least 11 died this year as a record number of climbers attempted the Everest summit. These deaths have put spotlight on the increasing commercialisation and lack of regulation on Mount Everest expeditions which have become a lucrative affair for both Nepalese authorities and other private operators who arrange such expeditions. So what does it really take to reach the top of Everest?
Aditya Gupta spoke to News 18 in this exclusive interview.

At 0:53, I've seen it worse than that -- I've seen them literally touching stomach to back in that line, hanging onto a rope, moving inches at a time -- WHO can find that interesting, much less enjoyable?! I certainly wouldn't!

Without Sherpas you'd all die up there. Who's climbed everest without one? Or without laying their own rope & ladders? Sherpas are world heroes!

Plenty of people have climbed without them. They’re not hero’s at all, just wealthy people doing their jobs and not very professionally by the sound of it

Sherpas are beginning to lack humility! Have heard about their unfriendly attitude from lot of people!

I don't know why people put humans into a holistic place by themselves. Why do you think Sherpas are not criticizable? Ever heard of Ueli Steck? He himself faced rude and life threatening behaviours from his Sherpa guide. Sherpas are also humans just like us with some great abilities. And just like us,there are bad examples too.As we cannot blame the group for a few bad people,in the same way,we can't defend somebody for his evil acts just because he belongs to that good group of people.

This fellow qualifies the mountain in almost exclusively commercial terms, focusing on service provision as if he was gauging the value of a 5-star hotel. Paying the Sherpa so little... and to expect grace.... is ridiculous. This fellow largely seems after broadcastable ‘experience acquisition’ rather than any more intrapersonal motivations of growth. As such, he himself comprises part of the pollution problem that the environment is enduring.

on the ridge, one lane is barely possible.....but many photos in this and other videos show an open slpoe -Lhotse face and other more open routes - why are there not two lanes? and yes I have never been above 5500 meters so insult me all you want...but answer the question

Cost I would imagine to set up a separate ridge line. I guess a separate ridge line may be possible but there is still only one Lane possible from the South Summit to main summit via the Hillary step. There’s no way round that other than stepping onto the SW Face or Kangshung Face

greed, greed, greed is the failure of the human race .... I experienced traffic Jam on my way on Cotopaxi in Ecuador. On Kibo was better managed. Not funny. And yes, after you were there you can say that you would not do it again :-) I do hope that someday the access will not be allowed anymore. The local people did live before all these commercialization, right? They were induced with false needs. As most of us, of course. Mass tourismus is for me the reason to go to Nepal/Himalaya only Nov - Jan, December was always an amazing experience.

The Sherpas are the one risking their life doing all the heavy lifting. And a major chunk of everest Climbers are newbies, amateurs who lack the experience and mindset for the climb. These are the people who are on everest to check off items off their bucket list and are a danger to themselves and others. So there is nothing wrong with Sherpas at times snapping on such fools. They aren't there to talk politely but to ensure you're safe which they do. The over commercialization of everest is the main problem from the Nepalese side. This guy has no clue what he's talking like he's visiting some 5 star hotel. This video is disrespectful to the Sherpas.

People want to climb Everest only because of their personal ego but expect the Sherpa’s to carry them on their back and take them to the top. You can’t expect to pay your way up to the top. If you are not an inexperienced climber and not physically and mentally capable then Mount Everest isn’t for you.
