As a CFI my main goal is to give my students the confidence that they can do something. No matter what it is, they need to be given the opportunity to prove to you and themselves that they are capable. That's what today's video is all about. Matthew came down from Indiana and wanted some help with his landings. I immediately identified that he was lacking confidence. It's time to change that!
Enjoy the flight!

They'll come to this airfield from all over for reasons they can't explain and they'll pass over the money without hesitation. Sitting in the cockpit as the plane accelerates down the runway and lifts off, they realize their childhood dream of piloting a plane as they hear "Welcome to the Sky." Cue the theme from Field of Dreams. Well done sir, well done. We've missed that contagious enthusiasm and joy of flying and instructing. LewDix is back !

Lew your decision to go back to full time instructing is such an enrichment for the industry!! We all can see that you genuinely love what you do while instructing and I wished I had an instructor like you (I'm from Switzerland). In your videos you make it all about the students, but all I see is an exceptionally good instructor in so many ways! Ever thought of punching out more videos to help out young CFIs, where it would be more about you and your finer instructing skills? Way to go my man and we're glad to have you back!

I'm lucky to have a CFI like you, maybe not as upbeat but he instructs because he is passionate about it. The man's gotten endless job offers at the big airlines and always turns them down to teach us noobs at the academy. He has over 15k hrs under his belt. The confidence he has in me and the freedom to learn he gives me has been everything I could ask for and more. Now I'm here wanting to be a CFI myself. I LOVE to talk and teach others about what I'm passionate about, and aviation is just exactly that. Cheers from Costa Rica, keep doing what do ❤️

Congrats on your ability to lift your student up in confidence! You really showed how you are a terrific role model for any flight instructor! You have such a wonderful inate ability to teach, and give that love of flying to everyone. You will grow this channel...and you won't look back to line flying, WOW!!! I could tell this man was very low in confidence, but he did fantastic in a new plane, new instructor, new flight environment, which was very busy, and he handled the mass of info very well. I've always found that on approach when you're lower to the ground, the speed of the plane becomes very apparent, and it's so different from being at altitude that at times it can be a bit of a shock how fast you really are moving...even in a skyboat:) That momentary shock can distract a student from the important focus of landing. But wow, he really aced his flights with you!! Congrats on your decision to instruct, again. I'm looking forward to instructing soon, myself, and your videos really give me some great tips. Keep on flying high, Lewdix!!! CONGRATS!!

This is an amazing comment. Thank you so much for your kind words! I love helping people achieve something in aviation. Regardless of what it is, however big or small I love helping them towards a goal. It’s very rewarding, and I’m glad my love for it all comes out in videos. You’re right about being low. It’s almost as if the comfort level is at a higher altitude. The lower they get, the less confident they are. They just need a little push and a bit of support. I try my best to create an environment to cultivate confidence! Thanks Alicia!

The midwest gets so windy compared to Central FL. They even asked on tower if it was my final stop because of the high winds as they were going to tell me to forget it. lol He did great from what I can see, the excitement of being a CFI looks very enticing. I always found during a lesson or BFR or any type of cockpit interaction with an instructor. The instructor was always more comfortable and less apt to give quick corrections if I talked “to myself” out loud as I was making corrections, turns, throttle looking down the runway even anticipating my adjustments out loud. etc. he knew if I was on it. Would only make necessary suggestions. It was and still is a great confidence builder. Thanks. KAPF

One thing that slightly annoys me as a student is CFIs guarding the controls during landings. I get it, but that can really take the confidence away, for me at least. It’s nice doing landings on stage checks and seeing the chief flight instructor sitting next to you with their arms crossed. That gave me a lot of confidence.

I had to go around didn’t like it. I had to go around again student on the runway told to go around by the controller went around tried to land again didn’t like it went around after three go around, so I was questioning life in general. Look over in the right seat is empty and came to the realization I have about three minutes to pull myself together. Initially told myself I got to get this plane down on the ground and then I reminded myself that there is plenty of fuel and there’s absolutely no reason I have to land, so just give it another shot and if you have to go around, go round. I hadn’t been given the greatest amount of training on go around and they weren’t pretty. I don’t know how many times you guys settle to the runway anyway on a go around but I did on both of those go around the only one I didn’t hit the runway was the one where I knew there. Was someone on the runway still on so I stayed high. Crosswind was pushing me towards the runway lights. I left it on the ground until just about hitting the lights, and then pulled it off the ground in the ground effect. When I got back, I was thinking, my lucky stars that my instructor was busy looking at a friends, Porsche. He asked me how it went and I said yeah I was a Lotta go around practice. Do KZfaq videos make a arounds look pretty easy , in practice, though I was initiating go around too low just before the plane was going to settle anyway, I just didn’t have the patience.

This piece of advice to look at the end of the runway during the flare... just never worked for me. Also, I don't understand how or why it should work. Looking farther into the distance helps with directional control, sure, but how is it supposed to help with determining height over the runway? Really not sure.

I find real life MUCH MUCH easier than Flight Simulator.. i dont even fly flight simulator anymore, it just does not do it for me anymore. I need the real thing.

I found flight sim helpful for procedural things, especially for instrument training. However it doesn't accurately represent the feel of the aircraft unless it's an expensive full motion sim.

It's so ironic that the CFI who showed me your channel follows NONE of your CFI advice

Man I missed these videos....I started watching at the beginning of my PPL, now I'm in Commercial. It's crazy how time flies, but these videos never get old. I wish I lived in Florida so I could do a flight with you, it looks like a blast! Great video.
