As an American, I have all due respect for these soldiers. They are on duty, doing their jobs and these crude tourists/visitors are hindering them! I do not understand why this ill-behavior is tolerated. The men and women of the King's Guard deserve respect. The way others taunt, touch or try to touch them and their mounts is disgusting; with little children it's understandable, however, the adults need to set the example. Best regards from the USA!

As a Australian l have great respect for guards ,soldiers ,police,horses they train and work hard they put up with alot.

It’s the waving of fingers including those of their babies, almost in the horses’s mouths, that unnerves me. I agree about the palm of hands, too. Many people are treating horses there as if they’re totally placid and trustworthy small dogs.

@@johnnunn8688 If you don’t know the horse ? Don’t do it. Best option though, on the withers( shoulders) and stand facing, the shoulder. Calm and smooth, not flailing hand around. Some of the worst ways I’ve seen on here - women with very long false nails near a horse’s eyes. The women usually turn to grin and have their photo taken. One woman’s nail went perilously close to a horse’s eyeball. Another ended up with her long nailed finger up a horse’s nostril. When someone is genuinely happy to see a horse rather than just using it as a prop for their soon to be online photo, that helps.

@@genny9026 Any animal can take a sudden dislike to you for no apparent reason. I've seen it in dogs, cats, and goats. An animal that has never had any problem with anyone else will just go at a stranger who is not discernably aggressive - and then never attack anyone ever again. I've seen it go the other way, too. I had a cat once that loved to climb all over my landlord who hated cats. She was never friendly with anyone else, except me. Don't forget that even a small dog has teeth sharp enough to rip open an artery. Horses, so google tells me, can bite down with a force of 500 psi, which is about twice what a human can do.

Different guard this one, the one you talk of has not been seen dressed in this uniform for some time now, usually seen in camos these days.

If she stood still she would have continued to be in his way and maybe got yelled at. The guard stopped so she could decide which way to go to get out of his way, or if she had a physical problem so she could move.

@@NancyCampbell-rk9rm She could not only see the Guard moving in her direction she could hear him. Prior to the Guard being practically on top of her she still had a choice to move in a direction avoiding being in his way to begin with. Moving to the right would have ensured that she was not in his way. She walked away without any issues with the Guard which was his choice. This could have turned out very differently had the Guard chosen to yell at her. Being much more aware and mindful would have been the intelligent thing to do.

I'd have to look again, of course, but I don't think the guard had actually started forward yet, he'd only just turned toward her and stopped to let her get out of his way.

It's the Guards place of work, not a holiday camp. Ministry of Defence building. What do you want....Guards going around asking if they want a cup of tea. Good grief, working environment, King's Guard and you expect Soldiers to bow and scrape. The public shouldn't be allowed so close.

I have mixed feelings, but I actually think that the public should not be allowed close enough to touch the horses, much less get in the Guards' way, especially when there's a sign there telling them not to grab the reins. I view it as a special privilege that they're allowed to do be that close. That's just my opinion and I realize that everyone probably doesn't feel that way ... and that's okay.

@@JanisPrice I totally agree with you that the public should not be allowed to mix and mingle where the guards are trying to do their duty. But until that happens, I cannot judge too harshly when people do not realize they are in the way. As far as getting close to the horses, that should never have been allowed. It was so refreshing earlier to this week to see the barricades keeping the public away…the soldiers and their horses are just such a spectacular sight by themselves don’t you think?

Their duty lasts for one hour then a fresh horse is brought out, and if necessary the guard can ask to be relieved earlier, which sometimes happens when the weather is bad or a horse is playing up. There is an alarm button for them to press.

If it has been very hot one of the on foot duty guards will bring outa tub of water for the horses…… believe me they are looked after better than the King himself is ( the royal family would expect anything less for their horses and guards. (The riders themselves get brought a glass of water in those cases. As they can’t quite get down to the tubs brought for the horses without looking silly.)😊

These tourists think there in Disney world these are really soldiers the have several deployments in Iraq and other places so treat them with respect

In most countries you would not be allowed to mingle with these soldiers. Perhaps the English should show their soldiers respect by not allowing the tourists to get that close. These soldiers are magnificent in the devotion to country and tradition and should not be surrounded by tourists. I don’t get why this is allowed.

Maybe I’m an A$$hole, but all I saw was a lady who was checking her photos, suddenly became aware of the guard and didn’t quite know which way to go! She didn’t appear to deliberately block his path, the guard didn’t have to shout to get her to move. I am quite sure this happens many times during the day without it being classed as disrespect. I have seen so much more deliberate disrespect, she just hesitated that’s all.

They don't stand all day , the duty in the box is for 1 hour then changed over .

Please get all the information about kings horse's and guards. They change out guards and horse's every hour.

An hour at a time 10 am to 4 pm hardly all day

I'm pretty sure they only stand in the box for one or two hours. The guard take very good care of their horses.

@@Sal-Star I clearly stated that some of the tourists are rude and disrespectful. However, not all of them are. I have watched many of the videos and find it disgusting how some people behave. I respect the guards and their duty. I wouldn't want to be subjected to the things they must endure. To imply that all tourists behave this way is absolutely incorrect. That's why I find it distasteful to make derogatory remarks about people that are simply doing their best to stay out of the way and observe the routines. The Guards should absolutely be shown the utmost respect, and the horses should never be touched. I don't think the Guards should be approached to have pictures taken standing beside them. Tourists should be kept behind a barrier to keep them at a safe distance and out of the Guard's way. The Guards and the horses are endangered when people are allowed to get too close.

I am amazed that the English do not appreciate that people want to have their picture taken with these amazing men and women. But the basic problem is that the tourists are allowed to get that close. I think the court yard and the horses should be off limits to tourists. That would solve the problems I think.

@@SueK449 I agree with you in regard to the courtyard and horses. Pictures should be taken at the Guard's discretion, and only from a respectful distance. The men, women, and horses on duty should not be stampeded by crowds encroaching on their space.
