Hi there, Liron here!
In today’s video we’ll answer the question - how dark should you paint?
I’m sure you found yourself in a situation when you were going to paint a shape, a shadow, a detail, and toy just couldn’t tell - how dark should I go?
Well, fear not! In this video I’ll provide three possible approaches & solutions to this problem.
Here’s the gist of the options:
1. Match the values
2. Use 3 DISTINCT values
3. Consider the COMPOSITION
4. Bonus concept - the “Unfocal” point 😁
I hope you find these helpful, keep painting - you can do this!

Your teaching style is so practical Liron , I never feel like you’re talking to someone else. Even the terminology you use is very easily understood and that makes you such a wonderful teacher !

That's cool, going to practice mixing four shades. Another tip I've heard is lighter for far away and dark for close up.

Im obsessed with replicating "The Lonely Mountain" from the Rankin/Bass The Hobbit cartoon movie. I also love trying to do active volcanos.... give me all the darkness.

I started wth WC relatively recent, since a couple of years (thought of myself more as a drawer). And I must say being afraid of the dark is a thing! Especially my first tries definitely have an overall too light look. Getting bolder now. Thinking in terms of tones helps. Also on a very practical level, good 100% cotton paper; the crappy papers I started to experiment with just couldn't take multiple washes.

For new beginners, I think the 3 Values tip is great. I think doing some 3 value monochrome sketches will help me to then apply it with colour.
