Hi there, Liron here! Today I want to show you EXACTLY how I see the washes I paint.
The ability to SEE what you paint, before painting it - can be a HUGE BENEFIT to your watercolor success.
I will share with you how I analyze the reference photo and see each of the 3 main washes we’ll be painting.
We’ll also discuss wash technique, wet-in-wet (when and how much to use it) and more!
I hope you enjoy this one 😊🙏🏼

Hi Liron, I have been watching online art videos/tutorials for three years because I wanted to become good at drawing and painting. It is something that I have never been good at, but it's something that I have wanted to become better at and have some achievement in. 3 years ago I was going through a very very difficult time and decided I wanted to start doing art to help me through things. I have since watched hundreds and hundreds of hours of tutorials/classes on drawing and painting. I must say, out of all the awesome artists who take time to make tutorial videos for KZfaq, you are my favorite. Art does not come easily to me... I have a form of Muscular Dystrophy and my hands do not work ... I have to hold paint brushes, pens, colored pencils, Etc. with both hands and use my arms to make my hands do the work, if that makes sense. It has been a long, difficult, and often very frustrating learning process for me to figure out the best ways for me to approach doing different techniques that will work best for me, to make my art look the best it can be. The way you teach and explain how and why certain techniques work, and the easiest way to approach them, makes it easier for me to learn. Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos! The work you do is absolutely fantastic! You have made me feel more optimistic that I can continue to improve and someday eventually be proud of what I have been able to overcome to become a better artist! I'm certainly not striving for perfection or anything... just pieces of art that I think look good, that I am proud of, and want to share with/show people. Thanks again! New subscriber ️ ☺️

This fantastic! So helpful to look at it aS layers on Photoshop. For those of us who are not so Photoshop savvy, would you do a quick run through of the steps you need to get your results? Photoshop overwhelms me, but if there is a quick 1-2-3 step to simplify the image into those 3 or 4 versions for the wash, it would be massively helpful. If you already have a video, I would appreciate the link. Thanks in advance.

Liron: This lesson was pretty amazing! I know I've said it before, but your realizing that we beginners need to understand this layering concept is just game-changing. I have never understood this or been able to see this, until now. If not for actually seeing the manipulation of the photos, I would never have believed it! Please consider doing another lesson like this. And, thank you. You really do make it almost seem possible.

What a great lesson. A lot of what art comes down to is the ability of the observer to step aside from the detail and “see” the world from fresh perspectives. You did a great job in illustrating this basic connection to a subject. Thanks

This is brilliant. One of the things that stumped me was: where do you start? I know there are layers but how do I see them? This method of breaking down the shapes and tones answered that question: You start with a simplicity. I'm practicing beginning techniques and learning my tools, but this is one of the most helpful videos I've seen. It will help me progress to the next stage. Very grateful to you, Liron.

This was a very clever method of showing your way of thinking about washes, Liron. I found it very useful. May I recommend to you the wash method of a Florida watercolorist named Don Andrews, past President of the American Watercolor Society? His method of “turning on the lights”, by maximizing successive layers of light, middle and dark values, each before moving on to the next, I think you would find most Interesting.

I think you has used an photo app to make this different photos? My question is, what is the name of the different stages of values in such an app? I don´t know if you understand me, because I am german and my english is not the very best. I have a photo app on my smartphone, but there I couldn´t find something like that. Because the idea of these pictures with the values I think is great and could help me a lot.

I was confused by your first step. With the first wash, wouldn't we start out with the lightest things in the picture (light to dark in watercolor). I understand the big shapes, placing them in. But why did you deepen the color in the beginning? Is this a value study?
@LironYan
@LironYan 2 жыл бұрын
Do you refer to the wet-in-wet? I sometimes keep the wash flat and paint anything that ISN’T a highlight. But here I felt like I had to get some dark paint In because the timing was right and why not (:

I just mastered value with graphite. Thought I could transfer that to water color.......WRONG. Back to basics. The negative can be sketchy. I shoot RAW. So, my camera has 2 pictures for every snap. 1 is jpeg and #2 is RAW or the negative. It really helps me to SEE. Step 1 make the shape. That will set the tone for me. thanks again.
