In January 2024, Dr. Grant Woods of Missouri learned that a buck he killed on his Proving Grounds tested positive for CWD, the first case on his land. We ran into Grant at the Archery Trade Association show, where we talked with him about the news and discussed how deer hunters can help fight the spread of CWD while science works on solutions.

Grant's hunting land is in southern Missouri, in one of the CWD counties there.

No, he did not. Grant explained that in his own video about the buck. He processed and froze the venison but waited for test results before eating it, as is recommended. After CWD-positive results came back, he contacted the state wildlife agency to find out how to best dispose of the frozen meat.

Cwd is nothing but a Tax w****! If your just now dealing with it your way behind the bar. I live in the heart of cwd land and I kill a 5+ buck almost every season for the last 20 years. And almost everyone has been positive. Some 140s some 180s and a good number of them inbetween. Clean eyes and assholes, good body weight, and nice hair. So don't think it's the end of the world for your deer, it's not! Just a real good way to soak some money's out of your pocket. And guess where they tell us to dispose them? A land fill lol! Where birds and other critters eat the shit then go spread it all over the place with there shit.
