@@BrianLCS I thought about it but it seems like it would be more costly and time consuming to send back, ask for a lower grade blue label, and MAYBE they’ll oblige me. Dude, what a gut punch! I'm disappointed for you on the DD 3. But this is just more proof to back what each of you said; in that CGC just needs to slow down and actually look at everything in every book. Hi Brandon, first, congratulations on the ToS grade. When it comes to DD graded, I’m doing the same thing for my avengers but I’m doing 1-12 (just because it’s the first full year of the comic and 12 is a better number to display). I’m very disappointed in CGCs quality control. Their grades represent condition, and the condition affects value. We use them to get the grade that matches the comics condition. When they fail, and as horribly on both your comics, if effects trading or selling values. Like you said, we want them to succeed, we want the grade to match the condition, and we want consistency. I think variations in their grading than there is consistency, and this is a real problem, cgc deserves and earned all the criticism they get

You hit the proverbial nail on the head man. I like that you are going for the first 12 issues graded, that gets me thinking as it is better for a display. I've learned over time that grading lower condition books can be difficult and highly subjective. That may sound counter-intuitive, but defects like missing pieces, tape, stains and creasing impact they eye of the beholder in different ways. Yeah, CGC missed the married cover on that ToS issue, but the overall eye appeal of that book may warrant a 3.0. The green/blue label thing can be very frustrating - hope you get that one sorted!

Great video Brandon. Always cool to have guest on. I believe I read somewhere that cgc was changing the way they grade for green labels. 3.0 or lower would get a blue label with defects in the graders notes not on the label. 3.5 or higher will have the defects on the label or you have the option of getting the lower grade but blue label. I could be wrong but I thought cgc had sent out some info on this change. Either way hope it works out for you. P.S. I think I have that shirt too. I'm really surprised he didn't know that if a piece was missing that the book would get a green label. The detached cover getting a blue label when it is possibly a married cover is unusual. However, the staple holes could have been from a previous owner using staples to reattach the cover. The staining would suggest it is married but may be it wasn't.

I’m surprised myself😂. I don’t submit too many personal books to CGC. I went and bought CGC’s guide to grading comics to understand their guidelines since I feel it’s a little looser than the book I learned on originally which is the Overstreet’s guide to grading comic books. The other useful tool I’ve been using is submitting photo’s of my clients books to the CGC forum to see how other graders interpret the CGC guide. Pretty useful tool so far.

So they are saying if there is no missing interior piece they feel the grade is still a 3.5 therefore it did qualify for a qualified label. I am unsure what they would give you with a blue label and that big of a missing interior piece on that DD since they discontinued the incomplete grade

Sorry this submission didnt work out for you on the DD @moncomics but congratulations on the ToS. CGC grading guide is sometimes hit and miss as well as their grading; pehaps next time post the books on the boards to get some advice on possible grades from other collectors prior. Also I'm not sure CGC do custom labels on Qualified Books which is perhaps why they omitted it. Hopefully if they regrade/ME the book with a Blue label you'll get the custom you were after.
@Moncomics3 ай бұрын
Hey David! So it's crazy, Jeff did post those to the boards and consensus with the TOS 50 with a detached cover was a 1.8, topping out at 2.0 so it even surpassed those estimates. Daredevil folks said 1.5-2.5 at most so again, we were surprised. And you're correct and I didn't find out until further research but the custom labels don't come on qualified or restored labels but they didn't reach out to tell me and still shipped separately and charged me instead of combining them. Ah well, a learning experience all the same. Thanks for watching and weighing in!

The Mandarin's going to use one of his power rings to slice his way out of that slab work his way over to your earliest Iron Man book and then they can battle and create a double slab the newest invention in the comic book world. A slab for the hero and his nemesis. The Mandarin is the most underrated super villain He's up there with Dr Doom as far as I'm concerned it's a beautifully presenting book and I'm happy you have it and one day if I'm lucky I'll find one. I do have a tales of suspense origin story of the Mandarin. Pair that one up with the book you have that would be a great double feature.
