We are currently in the jaws of the worst bear markets I have seen, the average stock has been cut in half, and the only way to make money this year has been to either short or to trade long in very short time frames. I'm still at a crossroads deciding if to liquidate my dipping $117k stock portfolio, what’s the best way to take advantage of this bear market?

It is a government inspired crisis this time. The Treasury have to sell Bonds to cover the trade imbalance and the government spending imbalance. In order to sell them they have to raise interest rates and the old long-term, low risk, low interest, AAA investments (including Treasury Bonds), held by the banks (often due to government regulatory policy), become next to worthless. The next milestone is the 15th when the government issue a new batch of Bonds. I have approximately $350k stagnant in my port_folio that needs growth. What is the best way to take advantage of this downturn?

@@rbs8091 What? No one is equating Adani with Bharat. In fact, despite the stock market crisis, none of our Stock Exchanges faced any serious damage whatsoever. But, the Western institutions indeed tried to perform a hitjob at Adani Ent, which plays a vital role in our infrastructure sector. Hindenberg started it, Forbes joined, Credit Suisse joined hands too. And now all of them are exposed like the ocean. That's what I am saying.

I have a doubt. In 2008, one of the bad decisions that I consider was merging of 4 big banks. Which basically got the crisis to a point of no return. Merging 2 of the largest competitors in banking isn’t like trying to douse fire with hay. If there is a contingency for this, i would like to know that too…

In case of UBS, Their investors interest looked after it, people who had their money in the bank suffered much more. In case of Yesbank, Their investor lost the money, people who had their money in bank were paided off fully. That's the difference between both cases.

@@hardik4942 No brother, read about it thoroughly. The UBS takeover of Credit Suisse is the largest loss (almost USD 17 Billion) ever inflicted on AT1 investors since the birth of the asset class post-global financial crisis. Even, the Swiss regulator representative said that AT1s are there to absorb losses, so it’s not a surprise. Also, the depositors of CS will be taken care of by the UBS but not all investors. So, it's universal and obvious that regulators would protect depositors' interests and not investors. As all investments are subject to market risks.

The ingenious way in which Switzerland handled the Credit Suisse crisis has increased the confidence of many investors. No comparison with other countries, which tend to act helplessly. It made it possible to carry out a strategically sensible merger that would not have been possible under normal circumstances. UBS will become one of the 10 largest banks in the world. The other banking centres are suffering from indebted states and weak currencies. An investment in Swiss francs brings a return of 10% if only the currency gains are taken into account.

AT-1 Bonds are probably the worst investment instrument ever, Especially with employees of the institution malpracticing to make people invest in such risky bonds. Happened in Yes bank most recently and now these Banks are losing too

Just wondering,In the CDS example how can there be 15,000 investors if there are only 10,000 units. Also if the bond fails wouldn't all the 15,000 investors be at risk rather than just the 100 investors ?

You missed the main reason for Swiss bank failure. They remained neutral even during world war 2 but during Ukraine war they supported American side and froze Russian bank accounts. By doing this they destroyed their 500 year old tradition of staying neutral. This caused the customers to loose confidence on bank, hence everybody pulled their money out and made the bank collapse.

A perpetual bond with callable segment also sells more or less at the same price unless there is corporate action like UBS acquisition of Credit Suisse.. Although all structured complex finance products fall under the regulatory watch like Basel III or newer Basel IV, financial institutions always find these leeways issuing Additional Tier1 collaterals..financial institutions must be asked to keep CDS against these AT1

Thanks friend ! Crisp , simple and concise ! Best wishes ♥️ Do roll out such gems ! One suggestion : do a predictive analysis of cases ( companies / corporates/ institutions ) which could collapse under different scenarios in future . Nick Leeson of Barings , Sub prime crisis of USA, SVB, CREDIT SUISSE analyses are post mortem ! Future looking cases would be great 👍

The same type of AT 1 bonds are also written off in the yes Bank case. Also, there is a little or no impact on Indian economy as majority of the deposits held by the Indian banks are of Indian household.

UBS will have to split into two banks, because it's now a behemoth in banking which is not good from a risk management point of view as a single bank with such a huge AUM poses a risk to the global economy.
