VIDEO INTRODUCTION:
On 10th of March 2022, one of the largest banks in the United States was shut down and this bank as we all know is none other than the Silicon valley bank!!!! and the reason why it is a big big deal is because, its the largest bank to have failed since the 2008 financial crisis and the second-largest failure in US history.
and this has created such a chaos in the market, that while one side, analyst think its going to lead to a bank run, on other side, they said that with the start up funding drying up, this is going to be a nightmare with both Indian and American start ups associated with the bank!!!
So in this episode, today, Let’s try to understand.
What is this Silicon Valley bank and why is it such a big deal in the global Start up ecosystem?
How did such a big bank fail in such a short time?
how does it affect the Indian start up ecosystem???
and what are the study materials to help you understand this banking crisis better??

The impact of the SVB and SI crises has been clear as day on the regional bank ETF (KRE), which has taken a nosedive by more than 20%. This has triggered a ripple effect, causing a drop in the overall market. But, as history has shown us, a localized and narrow contagion like this presents a ripe opportunity to invest in solid and fiscally responsible companies that have substantial cash reserves on hand.

So this was nothing but.. cascading effect as people weren't ready to wait and due to the panic.. everyone wanted their money to be safe, so most of them withdrew due to fear. And now the bank is short of money 💰 due to the hassle created by mass withdrawal. So in short.. the planning went bad or they didn't forsee that this would happen!!!

Firstly this is a long comment please do read it Bro it involves a topic suggestion which was ignored by the media except for the headline part. Hello Ganesh Anna and Parsh sir, Even if the video is of 1 hr we are ready to listen because more time means more detailed analysis which inturn makes us grab more knowledge. Thank you for making complex economic concepts so simple that even they are understandable to a class 7 student. Thank you Think School and Ganesh Bro for providing such a great content. Collapse of SVB Bank is must one to know. Even I wondered how people just made shorts to cover this important issue. Only Prashant Sir made a good video explaining about SVB and reason for its collapse. Iam eagerly waiting for your video to have a deep dive into economics behind SVB collapse. What's the exposure of Indian banks to our start-ups and please make a video on valuation bubble of start-ups. Now coming to the topic which I request you to make a video is on growing aviation market of India. Most of the big airlines have either ordered or in advanced stages of ordering planes in massive number like Air India placing order for 470 Aircrafts with an option of another 370, IndiGo has placed order for 500 Aircrafts in batches during recent times like the one for 300 aircrafts placed with Airbus in 2019, Jet Airways new management is planning to acquire 200 Aircrafts, new player Akasa Air is planning to place order consisting over 100 Aircrafts this year. So total number of aircrafts order from Indian aviation companies is likely to cross thousand aircrafts in near future. So if incentives offered such huge order numbers may even attract commercial aircraft OEMs like Boeing, Airbus to set up assembly line here in India. It can also serve orders from Middle East, ASEAN and Africa as well. Already Boeing sources aircraft components worth 1 Billion USD annually from India. There was news of collaboration between Boeing and GMR to setup a plane conversion workshop in Hyderabad. And India is also well placed geographically at the center of Asia, Africa, ASEAN and Oceania to setup maintenance hub for all commerical aircraft. Also cover current state of aircraft manufacturing in India covering: -Tata manufacturing military cargo planes for IAF like Airbus C-295 in India in near future. -HAL made military jets like LCA Tejas, Trainers like HTT-40 and assembly of Su-30 -NAL Saras and under development RTA(Regional Transport Aircraft) manufacturing by HAL. -Reliance Aerospace manufacturing fuselage of Dassault Falcon VIP jet. -Tata Advanced Systems manufacturing Apache Helicopters fuselage and F-16 wings etc So please make a video covering all macroeconomic and business aspects like: 1)Air Passengers number growth. 2)Increase in number of Airports. 3)Growth strategies of aviation companies 4)Business strategies of the aviation companies to benefit from this massive growth potential. 5)Probability of domestic manufacturing of these new Aircrafts. 6)Maintenance and conversion hub ecosystem. 7)Present state of aircraft manufacturing in India whose examples I mentioned above. 7)Addressing potential of exports from these facilities to other countries across the region like Central Asia, Middle East, ASEAN, Africa and Oceania. 8) Macroeconomic and socio-economic benefits of having an aircraft manufacturing, conversion and maintenance hub. 9)Air transportation potential in building multimodal transportation ecosystem. Recently Amazon brought it's dedicated Air Cargo service to Hyderabad by seeing the fast growing e-commerce segment of India. 10)Finally the stocks to watch out for in this growing aviation sector of India. If this makes video lengthy then make this video in three parts: 1)First part covering growth potential and business strategies of the aviation companies along with stocks to watch out for. 2)Second part regarding how government should plan to leverage such big order number by giving out incentives to attract domestic manufacturing and R&D centers of these aircraft companies and also promote maintanence and conversion hubs in India. Also mention stocks to watch out for which manufacture spares and components. 3)Third part covering massive employment potential of creating Commercial Aircraft Manufacturing, Conversion and Maintenance hubs. Along with this also cover Air Cargo and multi modal transport potential in growing e-commerce market and number of airports in tier-2 and tier-3 cities of India. Lastly mention how it will boost tourism in India. Please plan this video. It can become one of the most viewed video as well. Who knows this may even reach till policymakers and ministers as well inorder to make India an aircraft manufacturing hub.

Really liked the video.. Only a small addition about the Mr Jackson example is that the interest rates from central Bank are impacting directly the inter Bank interest rates (common names in Europe such known as Libor, Euribor etc.) as banks are taking loans from each other at this overnight indexed rate, so everytime the bps go up, these loans become expensive.. For common man, the interest rates are mostly fixed and have relatively very low direct impact.. That's also the reason why the home loan rates are much higher than inter Bank exchange rate as it covers these situations in advance using risk model calculations.. *please correct if something wrong

SVB’s collapse is a classic example of terrible risk management and terrible liquidity monitoring! What was their Board of Directors doing? What was their CEO, CFO, or Chief Risk Officer doing? All asleep at the wheel! The US banking system can weather this shock and come out of it ok. But banks such as SVB need to be monitored more closely.

Just one question - You said that SVB offered interest rates of 2.33% to depositors while their weighted average interest rates from Mortgage Backed Securities was only 1.56%. This means that even before the start-ups decided to withdraw, SVB model was unfeasible as they had negative 0.77% returns. Did they have any plans for dealing with that ?
@myselfyuvi

The plan was just to wait and watch the MBS interest rates to climb back up without having to sell it at loss. That would have worked for them had the startups not faced financial crunch and had they not requested for withdrawal from SVB.✌️

For people saying "Why Hindenberg didn't look into SVB?" , they most probably did look into SVB as well. They are a company that profit from shorting. Shorting is easier when the fundamentals of the company are bad and the stock prices are overvalued. Adani stocks were overvalued and the fundamentals as we all are aware now are shady as well. In comparison, SVB had no fundamental issue , mortgage bonds are very safe and neither were their stocks overvalued. The issue they faced was of liquidity and market panic. Now you tell me, if you were hindenberg, who would you look into and bet your money for shorting?

I was hoping that content related to SILVERGATE and SGNATURE would be covered., maybe in the next video. If many Indian startups have not deposited money in svb or are dependent on investment by it, then short run exposure to start up ecosystem in India would be minimal, but the domino effect which has already started with signature and silvergate could cause an effec in down the line. Ofcourse in that case the startups in India should still have sometime to cushion the blow and prevent large exposure, this could be a test by fire for Indian startups and unicorns and test their resilience.

Nothing is surprising. During pandemic, the world was spending on unproductive activities. Inflation is an expected fallout of these activities as production concentration is on one sector. It was an unavoidable action. So, just like pandemic chain reaction in Indian markets, we will see chain reaction of what's happening in the US today. Meaning, SENSEX may even go to the pre-pandemic levels of 42,000.
