It's wrong. Germany was producing more consumer goods than military products. I do not know where historians believe they found evidence for this presumption that the Third Reich was preparing for WWII by industrial effort. When the Polish incursion began, the German army was stretched to its very limits. If the French would have persisted in their Saar Offensive, they could have defeated the Third Reich in those early September 1939 days right away. Portraying German war preparation in the years preceding WWII is a commonly echoed myth. What Hitler always had on his mind then was to approach some kind of equalisation in military strength. He had a treaty with Britain on a ratio of British to German naval power, for instance. That treaty was abandoned later on, due to concerns that Germany would not be able to get at par with the increasing Soviet submarine threat, but the point remains that there was no such thing as an obvious Nazi drive to prepare for an alleged commencement of war in Europe. All of those stories seem to ignore the fact that the German military started from a really weak level. Increasing this strength was relative to that low level. It was not about becoming stronger than the others, but about being able to defend the country in a proper way.

Most historians neglect to mention that it was the Weimar government who surrendered in 1918, not the Kaiser, as this could lend credence to the "stab in the back myth." Good on this video for telling the full story in that regard.

Yeah, but the OHL had already prepared to accept a peace deal since October. It just happened to be the case that the delegation that was designed to accept the humiliating armistice arrived under the Kaiser's leadership on 9th November and then did the same two days later, just this time with the agreement of Ebert. And you know what? The German High Command kind of wanted it that way! To them, the German revolution was actually a great opportunity to whitewash their role in the war and deflect blame towards the Democrats who they wanted to sweep away again. They literally wrote letters openly saying how happy they were that they could blame the Social Democrats for their own failings. Several members of the OHL actually ended up becoming big purveyors of the stab in the back myth such as Ludendorff, who was mentioned in the video here, EVEN IF he knew EXACTLY how much he was at fault for it. In many ways, the High Command were a bunch of sore losers and it is a pity that many Germans believed their lies. Even worse, many of Hitler's initial collaborators from the conservative side, many of which were close to the OHL, wanted to reinstitute a sort of German Empire 2.0 and tried to use Hitler to their advantage, which utterly failed. Their biggest enemy was Democracy and not the fascist threat. Just like the initial OHL had been... The role of German conservatives and traditionalists during the Weimar Republic is breathtakingly irresponsible and dangerous, even among those who didn't really like Hitler and his antisemitism. In the end they all helped Hitler or worked with or under him, regardless of their intentions. In that sense, German conservatism was completely stained for a very long time after WW2. And it all started with the German High Command blaming the Democrats for the peace treaty of Versailles.

Fine, but please do keep in mind that this video only echoes the usual myths, not any proven truth from history. The way in which the Third Reich allegedly prepared for war by increasing military spending is such a typical error that gets regurgitated a lot. Also the alleged "fact" that the Third Reich would not be able to economically survive if it would not occupy other countries soon, is a common myth. The problem that the Third Reich was facing was indeed related to high finance, but, in contrast to other countries like Britain, Germany could not get loans on the international finance market to lubricate its economy. There was a reason for the Third Reich to rely on barter trade and the complicated issue with Mefo bills and such.

I have a friend whose grandmother was a little girl in Germany in the 30s. She said everyone was so happy and excited that things in Germany were getting better and better and people were excited at the time of how Hitler seemed to be making things better. Most common people like her couldn't have known what was really going on, what Hitler and his regime had planned, or what horrible things would end up happening, but I don't think I blame most average Germans for being optimistic and excited about his reforms...to them, I'm sure anything was better than the years after the Great War and the Weimar years.

In that period it was the same in every country (US, Japan, Italy, UK, France, USSR) everyone discredited classes of people to get cheap labor (heck even now we use migrants as a way to boost GDP and get cheap labor)

yea, take that with a grain of salt. Every country on earth does this with taxes, they just do it to the unborn. Your parent's generation is paying tax to pay off their parent's social-programs, as you are paying off yours. There's absolutely zero justification for adding in some nefarious motivation about conquest. Historians, who are typically left-leaning academics , will suppose excess motivations to their political opponents for practicing the same fiscal policy as their political allies.

Swastikas are illegal in German media and so they are frowned upon by youtube as well. Video guy was clearly writing a hit piece (I could see it too), but I very much doubt refusing to draw le edgy sign was some part of some grand subversive scheme. It would be small to the point of pointlessness, if nothing else. Followup, however... The Nazis are dead. They were also evil. You're not a neo-nazi, or a sympathizer. It is really quite different you would be amazed at how complicated the system is today, the dollar is the reserve currency so demand for the dollar is always strong, even like now, when there is speculated trouble ahead, people convert their money to dollars. You can also look at other countries, and a way they make their currency valuable is that they peg to the dollar. Also if you were to devalue the dollar, then that would not necessarily be a bad thing as our exports would increase due to our goods being cheaper. The ability to print money is also not unique to our currency system, but something the whole world engages in, and America is particularly strong because everyone wants dollar, global trade is done in dollar, if you don't have dollars, then it is much harder to trade.

Correct. They weren’t. The European powers at that time (Britain, France, and Belgium) were just too stupid to curb stomp Adolf’s latent ambitions before the 30’s and wilfully ignored the obvious signs manifested by his rhetoric. They had the power both militarily and economically to do so but are too cowardly and just resorted to appeasement. Though their understandable apprehension to lose more lives in another brutal war they were trying to avoid resulted in just that: more lives lost and destruction never seen before.
@efeghilmffdsee5216
@efeghilmffdsee5216 3 жыл бұрын
@@canto10mosha65 This is a lot less accurate than was reality. In reality, the UK and France were in no condition to fight a war. Their people were incredibly anti-war and their economies were torn apart by it (nowhere near as bad as germany, though). In short, the myth that the British and the French did *nothing* is just that, a myth. In reality, they had actually begun mobilising for quite some time. A huge reason why appeasement even *existed* as a policy was to buy the British time to rearm. The French were often against it, and in fact in many cases Britain stepped in to keep them down. I don't know why you include Belgium in the list of European powers, that part is just retarded.

Personally, I think Hitler's move to get women out of the work force was brilliant. Men were no longer competing with women in the workforce, so more jobs available for men, higher pay for men because of less supply of labor, more financially available men that could support a family, AND more women having babies. AND he also forced people on welfare to work, because earning some money was better than no money, and being a burden on the taxpayer. Think what you want, but those were still brilliant moves.

Here's a real life story about pre WWII inflation.When I was 16 I worked in a machine shop that had a 65 year old shipping and receiving clerk. He told me that when he was young they would get paid at work twice a day (once at lunch and then at the end of the day) so they could buy bread at lunch because by the end of the day the price could double or more. Then they would again buy food at the end of the day for the same reason.

Well to be honest that pre-war leichttractor without armour on, looked rather innocent. I mean sure it had tracks but that alone does not make a tank. Tractors at that time had no large rubber tyres making traction on a wet field difficult at best. Tracked tractors were actually used during that time alot, google if in doubt. Sure, German version was overengineered compared to those but that's just hindsight nitpicking. Also much of the europe didn't want to believe to the possibility of another war, British prime minister Chamberlain was oblivious and naiive while declaring “Peace for Our Time”. All in all, i wouldn't blame the other european nations for not realizing what the 'tractors' were going to be used in...

Rarely is it pointed out that Germany in WW 1 had achieved an important war goal: the destruction of the "Triple Entente". Russia was absent as a power factor for a long time. France was permanently weakened. Great Britain no longer ruled the oceans alone. Its maritime power was threatend by Japan and the USA. Eastern Europe was no longer controlled by Russia and Austria. It consisted of weak states that were soon dominated by German economy. In contrast to France and Russia German industry survived the war intact. USA, the only 100% Winner of the Great War, withdrew in isolation. Germany no longer had to fear an encirclement so quickly.
