I love the video, so much analysis and so in depth. The animation is simply superb! An uncle of mine, being a military historian, once visited Omaha Beach. Awesome work Armchair Historia! Your animations keep getting better and your work is great as usual! One thing I want to say is Halder was responsible for operation Barbarossa. In 1940, Paulus and Wegner told Halder that Germany could not succeed in the Eastern front because of logistics problems. Yet, Halder decided to proceed with the invasion! Additionally Halder, Guderain decided to go for Moscow while Hitler wanted to go South for the oil in 1941 I think all the German Generals not just Hitler wanted war but they lead a quick success in France get over their head

To the creator: Bare with my story. I added this video to my queue and after a couple minutes was going to move forward. I usually prefer video documentaries vs animated ones. But I started doing household chores but left it on in the background. The more it played the more intrigued I became. I am a WWII history buff and a follower of Mark Felton. Anyway I sat down and kept watching and thoroughly enjoyed your work. In particular your significant telling of the post war years. Typically most creators only cover Nuremburg but you dove deeper. I knew the basics such as 10 yrs in Russia etc but you did an excellent job and I learned some things. I liked and subscribed. I look forward to watching more of your work.

A minor correction, but one that gets repeated often and is completely incorrect - Germany declaring war on the United States did not "honor it's treaty obligations" at all. Germany was under no obligation to declare war on the United States, which made Hitler's decision even more baffling. According to the treaties with Japan and Italy, those countries were only obligated to declare war if one of THEM was attacked. So because Japan attacked the United States, Germany had no obligation at all. The same reason why Japan didn't declare war against every country Germany attacked. Hitler had two arguments for going to war against the United States, 1) A state of war practically existed already with the US supplying Britain and protecting its convoys, so by declaring open war, Germany could now attack those supply convoys directly and interrupt the flow of supplies to its enemy Britain, and 2) It would entice the Japanese to join him in the fight against the Soviet Union, where he needed help. (The second one didn't work out so well... sorry Hitler.)

One thing I'd like to mention about the responsibility of soldiers for their action: What can a soldier do when governed by a criminal leadership and when being ordered to do criminal things? Regarding your argumentation, when he obeys, he will be killed by the Allies. When he rejects, he will be killed by his officers. So what can a soldier do then? Deserting means death, not doing what they are told means death, doing what they are told means death. Following your statements there is no way for the soldier to survive this, no matter what he does. That said, doesn't that seem quite unfair?

Germany needed every conquest to be quick so that they could get their men back to the factories. This worked in Poland and France but really fell on its face in Africa and the east. The loss of Norway was one of the largest British blunders of the war imo.

Why is nowhere in this documentary mentioned that Germany started the WW2 with its ally the USSR? Yes, Nazi Germany and the USSR were allies when the WW2 began and they had the Molotov-Ribbentrop non-aggression pact with main goal to partition Central and Eastern Europe between them?

"Reactionary historians and ideologists are still busy pushing the myth of collusion between the Soviet Union and Hitler Germany. For example, the authors of the official West German history book, Das Deutsche Reich und der Zweite Weltkrieg, write not about the German attack on Poland but about an alleged Germano-Soviet attack on Poland in September 1939,? Forrest C. Pogue in the United States tries to prove that the non-aggression treaty with Germany “arrayed the Soviet Union on the side of Hitler’? In 1979, these malicious fabrications were picked up by the ideological mentors of the Polish counter-revolution, the agents of the imperialist intelligence services, which entrenched themselves in the KOS-KOR and among the leaders of the much touted Solidarity. They interpret the liberation of Western Byelorussia and the Western Ukraine as Soviet annexation and equate Germany’s treacherous attack on Poland, which deprived it of its national independence, with the march of liberation of the Soviet army through territory which had been taken from Soviet Russia and which was under imminent threat of Nazi occupation."
