i know seanie isn't a game dev and clearly hasn't really watched many dev log type videos, so it's very funny hearing the comments about "why is he placing so many coops. DUDE YOU HAVE ENOUGH COOPS" or about him not doing any intros. that's just how game dev logs are man. it's early build documentation to show the mechanics working properly and showcase some features of the game very simply. huge game studios have the budget to make it some big extravagant thing but this is what i know and love from indie devs working on their own thing! edit: i also saw a lot of people in the chat being very critical and harsh about the project demos, including one that said "bro is this an elementary school google slides presentation?" which i did wanna call out, cause it's really belittling to how much effort ConcernedApe must've put into these videos working as ONE MAN on this entire project

I only played the original release in 2017 for several months, got to year like 4 and maybe half a million/a million coins and then didn't play again until 1.5. So when I started playing that farm again I was like WHATS A SECRET NOTE, FISH POND, SIT IN CHAIRS, NEW HOUSE ROOMS, FISH TANKS, MOVIE THEATER, CO-OP lmao and also ginger island was crazy but it was so weird to just see all the kinda basic changes that I wish were in the original release. Now I'm on year 10 with many millions and it's even more fun than the original release. Definitely cool to see all CA's original original ideas. I kinda wish villagers could walk on your farm as long as they didn't destroy things. Even if you had a stand by the entrance of your farm and you could find villagers there buying stuff you put there that would be cool.

It's SO Harvest Moon! God I'm so glad Concerned Ape developed his own style and the game became what we know and love!

This makes me so glad I played Harvest Moon as a kid and could enjoy it for what it was back then. Looking at and playing Stardew Valley then going back to HM would be an absolute Experience and a half.

Seems like ConcernedApe took all of those videos down in the meantime... 😔 That's kinda sad because the masterpiece we now got evolved from those small beginnings. There's no need to be ashamed of how it looked like before. It's even more amazing to see how everything developed and turned out so amazing in the end!

I'm pretty sure wild strawberries do NOT grow on a bush, least not around here hahaha. They are totally foraged from the ground. Also, the nine seeds at once was probably a nod to story of seasons friends of mineral town, or one of the other earlier games from that series.

The alpha looks VERY much like Harvest Moon, especially the old GBC and GBA games, its even clearer that he took inspiration from these, the mechanics are all one to one, the layout of the mines, the forages, the way the shipping bin and seeds work, etc.

Was this recorded before the Friends of Mineral Town video? Because the things that surprised Seanie the most seemed to be the things that were more directly from FoMT, such as the 3x3 seed planting and the hoeing in the mine. Or did he just forget?

the old sprites have shading, but it is a lot more subtle. i prefer the new look, because they look more “brightly lit” due to the harsher shadow that simulates the brightest time of day

I think a lot of the unpolished look just comes from less pixels. A lot of different stuff is 1 to 1 Harvest Moon, like planting 9 seeds, throwing stuff atr the bin, showing the tool over your head, ... Glad he decided to make it all more detailed and make it hisown.

It seems like some things in earlier versions were more similar to things in harvest moon, like throwing 9 seeds in a 3x3 plot or the hoeing the ground in the mines to find a way down. Those were things that Harvest Moon games generally did. The fact that it was similar was what got me interested. Though I still wish it had it where time didn't move when you were inside buildings, and I wish you could stay up all night if you need to though you end up taking a hit on stamina the rest of the new day.
