Strikes me as manipulative. I doubt I would have liked George's sequels being an Expanded Universe fan myself, but to see him let go of the company under the impression his story would be continued is heartbreaking. I wonder if he would have sold it knowing where it would go today. The money is irrelevant. George donated his $4 billion in earnings from the buyout to education. What matters is that Lucas entrusted his child into someone else's care and he came out feeling betrayed.

Lucas back than believed that Disney will handle his legacy, properly. He was wrong and so were we. Now, at 2019: things have drasticly changed. The overall plan is to release each new movie for each 2 years and have 2 years of break since each year plan was bad and people were dissapointed and were just "done with star wars". Now things are slowing down and people are going back to Star Wars but that proccess is slow and needs time for its recover. Disney aren't dumb: they know they screwed up so now they changed plan and tries to fix things because they are aware of people's backlash and hates over TLJ and the production decisions that were made durring Solo and Rogue One. Have faith, there is still hope.

Did Disney really need to buy Star Wars, Fox and Marvel? If you ask me Disney should stick to adapting stories from the public domain or ones that fall more in line with their brand. All these companies can do fine on their own, they've worked respectively before so they should be their own companies.

What does it really mean to own a fictional story though? Disney have the legal right to say how the Star Wars story goes now but who is the real authority after theyve disgraced themselves? There is no way Lucas's planned sequel could be as bad as these films - even low budget fan films are more enjoyable. And then theres the EU books which are far far better than any Disney film. Just because theyve paid 4.5 billion dollars and have the legal right to say what happens doesnt have to mean anything. The movies arent made with the same spirit and they are made for nothing but money. If they were just a little bit shit it would be sad to see the franchise wimper out, but they are so utterly terrible that fans have wholly detached themselves from the franchise which is in some ways better. If George Lucas made his ideas for the sequels public, they would be my canon version. It doesnt matter to me who legally owns it. Its his story and they had their shot to carry it forward and failed miserably. Its a fictional world after all - no time has actually passed in the SW universe. You can erase things and do them again better. Nothing is fixed. The legal controls and boundaries telling what is canon and what isnt are only there if you accept them.

I know George didn't care for Legends, but at least he let it be. Disney executed Order 66 on Legends because it wasn't their thing. However I'm glad they are bringing back some Legends aspects

One thing I always find funny is when fandoms use words like "manipulative" and "betrayal" when referring to deals such as these. Business is no place for emotion. Iger made the right moves, and to be perfectly honest, George was demanding too much from the get go. Even 4 Billion is an obscene amount of money to pay for a dormant production company and few brands, compared to Marvel or Pixar which were in full steam. Disney had no idea whether the current generation would like SW the same way they like Marvel (hint: they don't), and on top of that asking for creative control? Lol.
