As an artist it breaks my heart to see censorship, streaming rights, money and other tangible obstacles get in the way of creative freedom. You can tell the directors really wanted to make something cool but all the red tape turned it into something lack-luster. I hope they're able to come back from this because the whole concept is really cool

Trust me, i would definitely like to talk about how Disney ruins their own movies and products. But this film was ruined way before disney ever started the deal to merge FOX.

I was just generally confused when i looked up Magik and it said that she was the younger sister of Colossus and that he was very protective of her, yet the movie stems off that fact that there is no one looking for these kids, but if Magik meant that much to Colossus, wouldn’t he be actively searching for her??

I saw this movie in theatre and my major peeve was that Dani didn't talk like a person, more like a robot reading plot lines. Also the romance plot between her and Rahne was so obvious to me from the moment in the clocktower. I also predicted a line in of their later romantic scenes.

So the director deadass said that only white/light skinned people could look like they were born with a silver spoon in their mouth... Ok. Ok, I see how it goes.

Disney didn't "goof up" New Mutants, Fox did that LONG before they were bought. They thought about reshooting because of the tone (and ended up keeping the movie as is, so it was always a pure Fox movie) and then kept changing the dates themselves, plus having Boone do some extremely questionable things with these characters. The only thing Disney goofed up on was not not dumping on streaming, but given Fox's deal with Time Warner pre-acquisition, it would be on HBO Max instead of Hulu for the first few months.

Dude, FOX messed up New Mutants. Disney acquired it when they bought FOX out. I don’t think there was anything could be done to save this dumpster fire of a movie. It had potential, but it failed to blossom into something decent. The actors themselves really carried this movie, which really made up for the writing/script deficiencies.

10:36 Ryan Reynolds decided to make Once Upon a Deadpool as a joke before he even knew that the Mouse was sweeping up the Fox. It had nothing to do with "censorship," China didn't even like the new version of the movie, and it's already been confirmed that Deadpool 3 will be the first R-rated movie in the MCU whenever they actually decide to do it.

The one thing I did like about this was the special effects. The stuff with Magik was pretty cool lookin and so was demon bear. I love DB. I’ve always wanted a DB tattoo from some of the amazing artwork in the comics. I’ve always had a bear phobia. So yeah it resonated with me

I agree it’s very bitter sweet that in order for the X-men to merge with the avengers, everything had to cease because it’s not “disneyfied”. On one hand, it’s like the characters are so interesting it’s hard to leave them out of the mcu. But, man, to watch the franchise for twenty years for it to end like this is just disappointing. I will say it’ll be interesting to see if Disney actually plays into the whole oppressive undertone of X-men or if that’s not Disney friendly enough.

It seems bizarre to center this video on the Disney merger considering how much of the going-wrong seems to have happened while Fox was still in control, including the uneven tonality and genre, regardless of the marketing that came later. This revisionism of Fox as some indie studio that let the X-Men franchise live its best creative life, as though it wasn’t directly responsible for the many, many years of mediocrity that surrounded the occasional high points, is equally bizarre. Not to mention that we wouldn’t be having a conversation about monopolies re: different properties that fall under the Marvel umbrella if Marvel hadn’t sold them off to different studios in the first place. Some interesting things came out of what was originally move of financial desperation, but by the end of the Fox run, who was calling for more of what they had to offer of the X-Men, aside from edgier stuff like Logan or Deadpool? I’m not gonna defend the many bad decisions that have happened on Disney’s watch-the way they let the latest Star Wars trilogy play out still makes no sense to me, and I really, really dislike the trend of live-action versions of their animated movies-but one place they’ve clearly succeeded is with Marvel Studios, so I’m not mad that something like X-Men will be in more capable hands because of that.

This was 100% a Fox movie before Disney acquired the studio. Same with Dark Phoenix. Disney has 0% to do with this movie other than deciding to release it.

While I'm a huge X-Men fan, I'm glad there won't be any more "FoX-Men" movies. They had about 2 decades to come up w/ a great cohesive, far-reaching story, but they didn't. Aside from Fox's poor handling of some of the most popular & beloved characters in comics, their plots were lacking, & the continuity from 1 movie to the next was essentially nonexistent. If Disney did so well w/ the "leftovers" (i.e. Avengers, & Guardians), I can't wait to see what they do w/ a property as great as the X-men (& FF). I just hope they don't do as much "whitewashing", and/or inexplicable killing of black characters as Fox.

Marvel started to shift into the horror aspect, the new strange movie multiverse of madness they did the horror aspect I think marvel needs to go back to the new mutants or Disney or who every owns it and lean into that aspect. there is a lot more they could have done wit this. i loved the atmosphere and the character while being underdeveloped are intriging. but it would have been much bigger if it was a TV show. maybe spend an episode on each character. eventually leading to them coping with an outside that hates mutants.

DIsney screwed up a lot of things (star wars 👀) but the new mutants is 21st century Fox's fault. Fox brought in 4 writers at various stages of production to mess with director/writers vision cause they didn't like his idea for the new mutants.

The concept from the beginning was intriguing. When I first heard and saw what they planned on doing, this looked incredible. But all the production shuffling leaves us with a lackluster result and promises of what could've been. Truly saddening.
