Vlad is right about games being an escape. The issue I have with “all your problems are still there” is that sometimes you can’t just change your situation at that very moment. Having an escape may keep you sane when you have nothing else to be happy about.

For real, All I learned is that vlad was depressed and used video games as a crutch. Congrats vlad, he could replace "video games" with any other hobby instead and his story would still make sense. Therfore its not a "video game problem" its a vlad problem that happens to have video games in it. I know guys who got way too into sports betting after a divorce. I know people who are broke because all they do is church events and only work part-time. Its not the activity, its the ammount of investment that makes it unhealthy.

How some people view video games is one thing, but the thing I hate the most is how video games is how people give it this negative connotation compared to other stuff. I see it no different from watching Netflix or TV, bungee watching a show or whatever. It's only people who play video games that get chastised. Plus the average age of a gamer is 30+

I’ve used video games to help strengthen my relationships with my coworkers. I’m an assistant manager and the younger guys under me have more respect for me because we bonded over video games and now are willing to go the extra mile for me. It can be a team building exercise.

This guy is an idiot. For all the people who agree with Vlad, and the Vlad ass kissers in the comments you people are fools. Ill destroy his argument[I dare Vlad to respond to my comment, I bet money if he does, he won't even know what to say.] 1. You CAN multitask with some games. Animal Crossing. Runescape, etc. These games specifically are designed around afk activities and many of the players who play them handle other business while playing them. If anything you can multitask in games MORE than in a netflix show or show/movie in general. Just because YOU personally don't pay attention to a show doesn't mean anything when there's dedicated nerds in all mediums of shows/fiction who know the lore and pay attention to every detail. You mentioned Better Call Saul and Game of Thrones, those long ass shows DO take FOCUS, what a bad example! 2. Sex/''Experiences with woman'' can be a negative or positive. Why is he even listing this as a counter to video games? So guys who have sex don't play games, or vice versa? Why is Vlad out of all people talking about women? Vlad, you don't get women like that, name one bad woman Vlad has pulled in history, sent me the receipts. Vlad you aren't some trendy artist or athlete, you're not getting it like that, stop it. Sex can be bad too. There's people who regret having sex with certain individuals, or people who have ended up with STDs, unwanted pregnancies, etc. 3. Vlad runs a podcast/interview youtube channel and interview mumble rappers, drug addicts, old dried people from back in the day, etc. By your same logic, your whole channel and podcast is a waste of time too. What am I learning from watching your interviews? I'm also wasting time. In fact this goes for Nojumper and any podcast show 4. What about Porn, Alcohol, drugs, etc? Those are all bad for your health and your brain. But you won't say anything about those unhealthy vices, will you? I dare you to say : ''MEN AND WOMAN WHO DRINK ALCOHOL AND WATCH PORN ARE IDIOTS'' you see that would actually be a bold take I might applaud you on, but coming at video games, an already looked down on medium, makes you look like a coward. 5. Watching VladTV or NoJumper podcasts all day is just as destructive as playing video games all day long, which is why Vlad is trying hard to make a distinction between media and video games. He himself creates media, and wants peoples undivided attention, just like game developers. If this problem exists with games, it also exists with media full stop. And yes, Vlad, you're right. However, you accidentally dropped the bomb on yourself, because people are also spending too much time on the internet as a whole. That includes watching your videos. The more people spend time improving themselves, and building meaningful lives, the less time they will spend watching VladTV interviews. So yeah, lets have that discussion. Not because I don't want people watching VladTV, but because we're clearly living in an era where people struggle to find meaningful lives. We've decided traditional values/wisdom are for stupid people "stuck in the stone-age", while we obsess over ourselves, sexualities, and identities, pretending like it's going to bring us meaning and happiness.... and it's not.

People who listen to podcasts all day long, educational or not, are just gamers with different interests. Instead of playing games, they like to dive into conspiracy theories, or history. He thought he was making a profound statement about shooters being hardcore gamers, but when you look at the age range of shooters, of course they're probably playing videogames. They're probably also on social media, doing homework, not doing homework, add anything a typical young person is doing. It would be fair to say that videogames might contribute to loneliness or interrupt physiological processes that need to happen, but you can't scapegoat it that simply. You also could say there is a problem with people using twitter to communicate ideas and blame people for things in 140 characters.

They brought up a good point when they said that playing video games is often the path of least resistance and how easy it is to sink time that could potentially be productive into them. A lot of us have fallen into that pattern and it’s an unhealthy overindulge. However, video games do provide a lot of value as an art form. There are games that provide unique experiences, tell amazing stories, give you interesting challenges, etc… just taking them in the same way you would take in a film is a gratifying experience that can be hugely inspiring. I still think about Metal Gear Solid 2’s commentary on censorship, junk-information, and echo chambers which has increased in relevancy as more time passes from its release. The game is relevant and valuable both in its message and design. This is enough. It’s not necessary to be multi-tasking or to be concerned with the financial value of the hobby as Vlad tries to say, AS LONG AS you’re not overindulging in it, as well as seeking the right ones. Playing your thousandth subsequent game if Fortnite is not going to give you anything valuable and only satisfy your want for the superficial; your win-rate, K/D ratio, or whatever. People need to challenge their taste more in general.

I love video games, but I have ADD so I can't stay glued to it for any longer than 35 to 40mins before I have to step away for a while and then come back to it. There is no way I could play 6 to 8hrs. Hey if that's you cool. I personally just don't have the attention span for long games. I think that's what I like about Call of duty, I can always step away after a round do something productive like fold my laundry or dishes and then come back to it.

I'm a light gamer nowadays, considering I'm almost 30 but I can absolutely agree with Vlad and his statements. His reasoning is part of the reason that I quit playing video games all the time about 8 years ago or so. I still play occasionally and there's some points where I get really invested in a game and I play it for 10 hours or more a day but that's rare nowadays. It's always when I get really sick that I end up playing video games again. Regardless, I think me spending time away from them has really improved my mood. I'm an author so I'm constantly writing all the time, nowadays. The thing is with videogames, it's all taking. Every game you play is just you getting dopamine gifts all the time. You're never giving anything back. I feel like part of the depression in gaming comes from the fact that the people who are really deep don't create anything of their own, maybe because they don't know what to create or how to create something but I remember my first foray into something creative was getting Fruity Loops and starting to make beats. Then I started writing. Now I write and make beats and write songs and whatever, y'know. It's almost as if you have to convince gamers to approach a creative outlet like it's a video game, where you have to learn the controls and play the tutorial level, doing basic shit, whatever it is. Eventually you'll get good enough to master them and you'll have a skill. I swear to god, if you've logged 1000 hours in a video game like League of Legends or something, think about it. If you'd spent that 1000 hours writing, or learning an instrument, practicing guitar, woodworking, beadwork, jewelry craft, painting, oil painting, tablet painting, whatever. If you do 1000 hours of one of those, you're going to make serious progress and then, you have that skill. Just keep practicing it like you practice playing video games.

Guess what, I make more than him and we are in the same social circles. Painting tables? Lmao yeah cause that's somehow more fulfilling.... I’ve noticed from gaming content creators the more money they make the less they want to play the game and the more they want to live life . You’ll see them go off start families , start hanging out with celebrities , etc look at agent 00 they started on 2k and now look at his content . Games are just an escape from our boring lives and once we jazz up our lives we don’t rely on the games as much . I know I played games hardcore until I got my heart broke 😂 i felt like I wasted mad time on video games and girls so I started working out making more irl friends and since then I barely have time to game I might hop on a few nights in a row then I’m gone for 2 months. If I can advise anyone make a career out of gaming or use it to pass time literally . The better your life irl the better the experiences when you do play .

I mean when I was fired from my job(which I liked and made good money) I got depressed and then just sunk hours into The Witcher 3. I wasn't being a bum, I went through the unemployment process and did what I needed to do to collect, but playing games kept me in a better place while going through that process.

There's a difference between nostalgia vs depression. I would play a game for days if it was nostalgia. It's part of my childhood, this is my big part of it as a gamer. Nowadays I rarely play games. The only time I'm playing heavy now is VR. I love VR for boxing. I actually do box in reality. I've lost weight doing it and I stayed active because of it. I do it because I love it, it's a passion of mines. Besides my other goals and financial investments. Long story short, playing video games for 8hours. Let alone over 2hours. Is insane thinking about it now. I can't do it anymore. I can't even play 90% of the new games I buy. I just share my account with my nephew so he has games to play. It's all a mental issue. Video games saved my life. I was a drug addict but then my mom got me a ps5 and it helped distract me and even worked on my attention span. It also help me fast to lose weight until eventually I even got a new job. Video games saved my life.

I mean I don't have a girl but If I was on vacation with her or on a date with her and she was on her phone the whole time. I would actually be pissed off af. So I get the whole bringing a PS5 on vacation. Now for the whole gaming to get away from depression discussion. 100% You can't be an adult face all the problems that give you depression without getting a break. It will break your mental.
